In this study, the activated sludge from wastewater treatment plant of Tehran oil refinery (Iran) was used as the feed stock for production of carbonaceous sorbent using pyrolysis process. The optimum conditions of Cd removal by pyrolyzed activated sludge (PAS) were determined using Taguchi method. The highest Cd removal by PAS (up to 99%) was obtained under optimum conditions. Langmuir and pseudo-second order were the best isotherm and kinetic models for description of Cd sorption by PAS, respectively. It is concluded that the pyrolysis of activated sludge could be an approach to produce a low-cost sorbent having the potential to remove Cd from contaminated solutions. However, more researches are needed to investigate the capacity of the sorbent for removal of various heavy metals and their interactions.","PeriodicalId":285569,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Environmental Impacts of the Oil and Gas Industries: Kurdistan Region of Iraq as a Case Study (EIOGI)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123574495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The oil recovery rate (ORR) and the oil recovery efficiency (ORE) are the major parameters that can show the execution of skimming belt which could be anticipated by the empirical coefficient of correlation as function of the above operation conditions. The LINST function of Microsoft Excel program [Least square method / regression analysis] is used to calculate the empirical correlations of the major parameters (ORR), and (ORE). By a comparison between the calculated correlations results and the present experimental results, it is appearance that the two sets have the same results with a variance =0.016% among the results.","PeriodicalId":285569,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Environmental Impacts of the Oil and Gas Industries: Kurdistan Region of Iraq as a Case Study (EIOGI)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123691107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And one of the main aims of establishing the sections in different countries is to realize the implementation of such scientific activities. Since 2008, the IEEE Iraq section is established in IRAQ, and the Iraqi members did their best to realize the scientific activities in all universities, ministries, and society. And since 2010, the First International conference was hold in Basra University — Engineering College. And in 2017 the status is different, since in this year the IEEE sponsored 7 International conferences in different universities. This id the first time in which the IEEE Iraq section, IEEE ComSoc Iraq chapter, and I KKK CIS Iraq chapter faced such great challenges to support scientifically the hold of these conferences. Even one of the conferences was related to the social science, and the papers submitted in (Arabic language). Still all the IEEE Iraq section members, feels that one of the main aims of their volunteering activities is to enhance, and educate the Iraqi Universities to increase their interest in holding such IEEE International Sponsored conferences, to improve that the minds of Iraqi Academics are working and give their results in their accepted papers.","PeriodicalId":285569,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Environmental Impacts of the Oil and Gas Industries: Kurdistan Region of Iraq as a Case Study (EIOGI)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121862850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
