In such blind MIMO methods, some ambiguities always remain. They may be expressed in a form of full rank mixing matrix. In this paper, a two-stage receiver algorithm solving these ambiguities is proposed. The FIR-MIMO model is identified first followed by equalization stage. The ambiguity remaining after the equalizer is modeled as an instantaneous MIMO system. This system is solved using independent component analysis (ICA) using the assumption that transmitted sequences is statistically independent and non-Gaussian.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"189 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124256127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the relatively low power of the received signals, GPS is highly susceptible to a variety of intentional and unintentional interferers. In this paper we examine a multistage space-time adaptive-processor (STAP) that is used to improve the detection capability of a GPS receiver for a wide range of jamming scenarios. Depending on the type of interference, the stages incorporate structures such as a notch filter, a beamformer and a blind linear interference canceler. Computer simulations are provided to illustrate the performance of the multistage receiver for wideband and narrowband interferers.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125908880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Estimates of the complex channel gain are derived first from known pilot symbols by optimum Wiener filtering and passed to the BICM iterative decoder as initial channel state information. After each decoding iteration, the channel estimates are refined using the extrinsic information fed back from the decoder. An advanced scheme called \"restart\" is developed to effectively reduce the bit error rate floor, by restarting the decoder after several iterations with the refined channel gain estimates. Motivated by the observation of the burst errors in the transmitted sequence, the \"restart\" algorithm is extended by concatenating Reed-Solomon codes with BICM. When RS (255, 223) code is used for BICM with 16-QAM modified set partitioning labeling and a 16-state code, the BER of 10/sup -6/ can be achieved at E/sub b//N/sub 0/ of 10.5 dB for normalized fade rate f/sub d/T/sub s/ = 0.02.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129734875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spectral envelope is the key information of instrument characteristic and timbre. We decompose an instrument sound into sinusoidal components (harmonics) and noise components and estimate the amplitudes of the harmonics component. We want to express the spectral envelope effectively using estimated amplitude, therefore, we define three kinds of features and apply a recognition procedure to each feature. The HMM model used is continuous single Gaussian output HMM. To evaluate the performance of the recognition technique, the proposed technique is applied to classify the real instrumental sound of MUMS (MacGill University Master Samples). The recognition success ratio is more than 70%.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124634690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed that the radar can change the transmitted signal in azimuth. More precisely, it makes use of N N-dimensional signatures; the possible useful signal from each radar cell is a coherent pulse train while the disturbance is a Gaussian process, independent from cell to cell, but with the same (unknown) covariance matrix regardless of the illuminated one. Based on the above model, we propose an adaptive detector designed according to a two-step procedure. Its performance assessment and the comparison with a previously-proposed detector show that the proposed one can be a viable means to cope with uncertain scenarios.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115827600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A blind adaptive equalization method was put forward for the codes proposed by Hochwald et al. (Sept. 2000). The stationary points of the said method are investigated. In this paper, an efficient algorithm to cluster genes into similar 'functional' groups is presented. This is a technique for extracting and characterizing rhythmic expression profiles from genome-wide DNA micro-array hybridization data. These patterns are clues to discovering rhythmic genes implicated in cell-cycle, circadian, or other biological processes. These functionalities are discussed. A signal-processing approach to this problem is presented. The information theoretic criterion for identifying those genes exhibiting maximum variation in behavior is explored. The genes are clustered and then relationships are derived for the proposition of a temporal cell-cycle model governing regulatory behavior. The human fibroblast and yeast data set are presently considered for analysis.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116205912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was shown that feature extraction based on cepstral analysis of the wavelet packet decomposition can provide significant inter-speaker separation. We introduce two different channel estimation algorithms. Our first channel estimation scheme is a novel structured channel impulse response (CIR) estimation method for sparse multipath channels. The novel CIR estimation method was called blended least squares (BLS) which uses symbol rate sampled signals, based on blending the least squares based channel estimation and the correlation and thresholding based channel estimation methods. The second CIR estimation is called Variable thresholding (VT), and is based on improving the output of the correlation and thresholding based channel estimation method. We then use these two CIR estimates to calculate the decision feedback equalizer (DFE) tap weights. Simulation examples are drawn from the ATSC digital TV 8-VSB system. The delay spread for digital TV systems can be as long as several hundred times the symbol duration; however, digital TV channels are, in general, sparse where there are only a few dominant multipaths.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125921552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We derive robust versions of three widely used estimators: the zero-forcing estimator (ZFE), the minimum-mean squared error estimator (MMSEE), and the minimum-mean squared error decision feedback estimator (MMSE-DFE). The formulation of the robust estimation problem takes into account structure in the uncertainty, modeled as an ellipsoidal family of possible FIR channels. The robust estimators are found as the global minimizers of the worst-case residual, and can be computed at a moderate computational cost via semidefinite programming.","PeriodicalId":284950,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the Thirty-Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002.","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125985977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
