The effect of rain on channel gain was analyzed and experimentally evaluated. A modified electric model of body channel was given and based on which the changing tendency of channel gain was studied. In rainy day, capacitances and resistances in the electric model will vary, which leads to the change of channel gain. Analysis results show that channel gain increases moderately with the capacitance between human body and transmit electrode or receive electrode, and decreases with the capacitance between human body and transmitter suspension ground or earth ground. The measurements of the body channel cover the frequency range from 100 kHz to 10MHz. Wet sponge was used to emulate the changing of air and clothes humidity. Results show that wet sponge brings perceptible change to received signal amplitude, which is in accord with the analysis result. Finally, channel gain was measured on wet lawn after rain. Results when barefoot and wearing shoes were compared as well as indoor trial. Channel gain is closely related to frequency when user is barefoot. The higher the frequency is, the less effect of ambient humidity is. Accordingly, a carrier frequency higher than 1MHz is recommended for rainy day application.","PeriodicalId":284323,"journal":{"name":"2009 Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing (JCPC)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121163659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But performance predictions from wireless networking laboratory experiments seem to dismatch what is really deployed in future cognitive heterogeneous networks. To generate an appropriate traffic model is one of the major factors hampering researchers' ability to make reliable forecasts. This paper proposes a fuzzy logic based traffic model considering cross-layer for cognitive heterogeneous networks. The analyzed traffic is characterized by linkCongestion parameter which is the output of the fuzzy logic control system with the MAC counters: packet error rate to derive linkReliability, and received network layer parameter: latency to determine routing. The advantage of the traffic model using a fuzzy logic approach is that it does not make any statistical assumptions and does not require a huge data sets. It only uses a singleton fuzzifier, min inference and a defuzzifier, all of which are relatively simple and quick to compute. Hence it is fast and secure.","PeriodicalId":284323,"journal":{"name":"2009 Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing (JCPC)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124565462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the numerous robot researches, the humanoid robot soccer competition is very popular. The robot soccer players rely on their vision systems very heavily when they are in the unpredictable and dynamic environments. This paper proposes a simple and fast real-time object recognition system for the RoboCup soccer humanoid league rules of the 2009 competition. This vision system can help the robot to collect various environment information as the terminal data to finish the functions of robot localization, robot tactic, barrier avoiding,…, etc. It can decrease the computing efforts by using our proposed approach, Adaptive Resolution Method (ARM), to recognize the critical objects in the contest field by object features which can be obtained easily. The experimental results indicate that the proposed approach can increase the real time and accurate recognition efficiency.","PeriodicalId":284323,"journal":{"name":"2009 Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing (JCPC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121304151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The computational models of trust play an important role in determining who and how to interact in open and dynamic environments. However, current models are not efficient or scalable enough with the expansion of system. To this end, a computation trust model with confidence is proposed in our paper, in which peers can autonomously deal with the biased information and identify trust with confidence in unstructured P2P systems with low overhead and better efficiency.","PeriodicalId":284323,"journal":{"name":"2009 Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing (JCPC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115605844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object IDs are to secure reliable access to the various object features and corresponding data, and to support the intelligent communication between human and computer worlds. Several technologies for object location and identification are analyzed and semantic surfaces are recognized as one of the most promising approaches. For the implementation of semantic surfaces, a comparison of image codes, based on their size, surface coverage and image density, and data capacity is conducted. Finally, a software system, named VIDI, which supports the visualization of various digital contents related to physical objects, is proposed and its design and organization is discussed.","PeriodicalId":284323,"journal":{"name":"2009 Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing (JCPC)","volume":"214 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130783525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Once widespread, it has declined to 8 populations near Qinghai Lake. Subjected to the dual pressures of human activities and natural enemies, the gazelle is faced with the probability of extinction. By analyzing past years' statistical data, a Population Viability Model of Przewalski's Gazelle (PVMPG) was established. STELLA, a graphical-interface software, was used, first to establish the PVMPG model, and then to simulate environmental conditions and predict the future population viability. Finally, VORTEX software was used to forecast the probability of extinction of Przewalski's Gazelle in 100 years, to verify the reliability and rationality of the PVMPG model that was developed using STELLA. The results will provide the theoretical basis for the Przewalski's Gazelle population's protection.","PeriodicalId":284323,"journal":{"name":"2009 Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing (JCPC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125306359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, they have some insufficiencies in the system resource utilization rate and the response time due to these algorithms are insufficient in solving resource slot. In order to improve the system resource utilization rate and shorten the response time, this paper presents PB-FCFS algorithm which is a task scheduling algorithm based on FCFS and backfilling strategy for grid computing. The PB-FCFS algorithm combines backfilling and priority scheduling strategy, as well considers the resource recycling at the time of task accomplished. The simulation results show that the PB-FCFS algorithm shortens task run time and improves the system throughput rate and resource utilization rate to a certain extent.","PeriodicalId":284323,"journal":{"name":"2009 Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing (JCPC)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123982583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many Message-Oriented Pervasive systems have been proposed to support on-line self-composition of services in reaction to changing contexts. However, most existing service composition mechanisms either do not consider user preferences or use proprietary typing systems. In this paper, we propose an extensible ontology-based autonomous service composition framework for Message-Oriented Pervasive systems. System developers can reconfigure this framework according to their application domains by overriding default hook functions.
