To find salient objects in a video shot we start from the hypothesis that moving objects attract attention more than other and are considered salient. In this paper, a novel video saliency model is proposed. Saliency map is the result of a combination between a dynamic map and a static map. For each pair of video frames, a dense optical flow is computed using the polynomial expansion. This dense optical flow is presented in the RGB color space and leads to a dynamic map. Then, a static map is generated by considering the spatial edges of each frame. Static map and dynamic map are fused into one unique map. Finally, to generate saliency map we used the Gestalt principle of figure-ground segregation, which assumes that connected regions are fused together and belong to the foreground. The proposed method is evaluated on the SegTrackV2 and Fukuchi datasets and shows good performances comparing to the state-of-the-art including three recent saliency methods.","PeriodicalId":283737,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117192452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the clustering results of traditional methods are not sufficient seeing the nature of the image as a data cube with high dimensionality. In addition, the complex relations between spatial neighboring pixels are not considered in traditional methods. In this paper the fuzzy c-means clustering is revisited and customized. The proposed approach aims at the reduction of dimensionality of the data cube while preserving the most relevant spectral features and the improvement of the clustering result. The integration of spatial feature can express natural dependence between neighboring pixels and enhance the clustering. For that the presented approach starts by a band selection method based on the hierarchical clustering of spectral bands using the mutual information measure to reduce the dimensionality of the image. Then, a new version of the fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm is proposed; this version includes spatial and spectral features. Experimental result on real hyperspectral data shows an improvement on the accuracy over conventional clustering methods.","PeriodicalId":283737,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115426653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the study of the segmented bone several features can be extrapolated. These features are indices of the presence of some diseases such as the Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM) which is the main focus of our research. This tumor is generally located very close to the rib cage and its structure can serve as a reference for the location of the pleural mesothelioma. An estimation of the treatment surface and the mesothelioma location must be performed through rib cage segmentation. To achieve this goal, we must extract automatically the rib cage structure from other structure in in the CT image and prevent the inclusion of some undesirable regions such as mediastinal space in the final result. This paper presents a semiautomated rib cage segmentation method based on the image features. The algorithm to segment the rib cage employs a stepwise approach and consists of five stages : First, the centroid points of the spinal canal and the sternum were identified by the user. These points allowed an adjustment of a region of interest (ROI) over the mediastinal space and an intensity enhancement to separate the mediastinal space from the thoracic cage. Second, a thresholded volume was extracted from the input volume data of the CT image by applying multiple pixel thresholding. Next, a condidate bone was extracted from the thresholded volume data using three-dimensional (3D) connected component labeling algorithm. Finally, morphological operations of dilation were applied to the candidate bone regions to compensate for artifacts caused by partial volume effects. A total of 30 patients were used in our experiments. 22 of the 30 cases were successfully segmented and 8 of the 30 cases were successfully segmented but the sternum structure has been removed.","PeriodicalId":283737,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114377491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we firstly present a review of recent applications of augmented reality. One of the recent application of the augmented reality is the use of video projection to provide a more comfortable interaction with display devices without any hardware equipment. Thus, we secondly present a review of AR camera-projector based system and its main still open challenges. Visual understanding and image processing present a fundamental part which constitutes the easiest and most natural tool for interacting with a normal user in video projection system. One of the most important challenges is related to image interpretation and user fingertip tracking. In this context, we review the existing methods for hand segmentation, fingertip detection and contact surface detection. Finally, we consider a case study of virtual keyboard for user interface and smart environment. In this study, we propose a fingertip tracking system. We accordingly propose a hand segmentation approach based on new automated version of k-means. Experimental validation on real acquisitions is presented to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":283737,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130227154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fusing multiple modalities improves recognition performance and reduces some limitations of biometric systems based on a single modality, such as intentional fraud or universality problem (inability to acquire data from certain persons for some modes). Furthermore, in real-world applications, biometric data imperfections affect the performance of the recognition algorithms which may be caused by several factors such as the poor image quality, noise and adverse illumination and/or contrast. To handle data imperfections or redundancy and cover data variability, possibilistic modeling is a powerful tool. In this paper, we propose a robust multimodal biometric recognition system integrating fingerprint and palmprint based on possibilistic modeling approach. The proposed approach relies on possibility theory concepts for modeling biometric features. Accordingly, a set of relevant biometric features extracted from image samples is statistically analyzed and represented by a possibility distribution. The biometric templates from the palmprint and fingerprint are used for decision making by applying a score level data fusion process. Validation of the proposed approach is done on the public palmprint image database, CASIA (Chinese Academy of Sciences Institution of Automation) and the public fingerprint database, FVC (Fingerprint Verification Competition). As performance metric, we adopt the area under the ROC curve. Each both modalities give an AUC (0,8694) and (0,9531) respectively for palmprint and fingerprint when used alone. A typique multimodal system using both modalities gives an AUC of (0,9531). The proposed multimodal system has an AUC very close to unity (0,9997).","PeriodicalId":283737,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114498291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the encoding process requires a high computational complexity that needs to be alleviated. Hence, the paper proposes a software implementation of HEVC encoder and an optimized architecture on single core DSP TMS320C6678 to perform the rate distortion optimization (RDO) for mode decision procedure. The goal is to use single instruction multiple data (SIMD) operations and data level parallelism in order to optimize the Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) and Sum Square Error (SSE) engines. The performance of the proposed implementation shows more than 88% improvement in terms of cycle cost for the distortion functions computation and the encoding speed of the proposed optimized HEVC encoder is accelerated by approximately 24% compared to the HEVC reference model (HM12.0) software with slight loss of coding efficiency.","PeriodicalId":283737,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129729373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can detect and deliver the response of any buried kinds of object, however it cannot discriminate between landmines and false alarms. In this paper, we propose a detection method based on support vector machine (SVM) using one-dimensional GPR delivered data called Ascans. Each Ascan data is considered as a feature input for the proposed SVM classifier based on RBF Kernel. This method is tested on MACADAM database. Used data includes responses of different kind of landmines (targets) and responses of other objects (outliers) like alusquare, wood stick, pine, sodacan and stone buried in different types of soils. In order to evaluate the performance of our detection method, we have used three evaluation measures which are the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves, the Area Under the Curve for the ROCs (AUC) and the running time. We have obtained 94.71% as AUC and 1.028s as running time. So, experimental results prove that the proposed method can successfully detect landmines and discriminate between targets and outliers.","PeriodicalId":283737,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Image Processing, Applications and Systems (IPAS)","volume":"226 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114276061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, a statistical study on different video classes for LCU partitioning into different PU sizes for each temporal level has been conducted.
