We find that a greater overlap between co-authors' previous research fields is significantly related to a greater publication success of co-authors' joint work and this is robust to alternative specifications. Co-authors that engage in a distant collaboration are significantly more likely to have a large research overlap, but this significance is lost when co-authors' social networks are accounted for. High quality collaboration is more likely to emerge as a result of an interaction between specialists and generalists with overlapping fields of expertise. Regarding interactions across subfields of economics (interdisciplinarity), it is more likely conducted by co-authors who already have interdisciplinary portfolios, than by co-authors who are specialized or starred in different subfields.","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124384042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To present my ideas about the possible value of preprints as a means of (somewhat primitive) scientific publishing, the article will start with three cases, in which my preprints turned out to be useful and citable. Then, it proceeds to draw some short but worthwhile lessons for prospective authors.","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123676325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis illustrates persistence over five centuries in information technology adoption in European and U.S. populations. The results hold when excluding the most and least advanced ancestries, and when accounting for additional deep roots of development. Historical information technology is a better predictor of internet adoption than current development. A machine learning procedure supports the findings. Human capital is a plausible channel as 1500 AD information technology predicts early 20th century school enrollment, which predicts 21st century internet adoption. A three-stage model including human capital around 1990, yields similar results.","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134383563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I discuss a duality correspondence connecting meets (finest common coarsening) and joins (coarsest common refinement) of families of partitions, confirming their natural order-theoretic characterizations. The partition lattice turns out to fail to be a distributive, or even a modular, lattice. I provide intuitive interpretations of these negative results in terms of the interaction between common knowledge and pooling multiple sources of information, with applications to information exchange within and between different populations and to criminal procedure law.","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116094722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the paper covers emerging issues around access and reuse of transport data that may be hindering ‘out of the box’ thinking and the deployment of artificial intelligence in this area. Second, the paper also discusses some well-known issues ‘within the regulatory box’ around the exercise of discretion in the choice of sustainable technical solutions, the constraints surrounding certain types of complex and collaborative procurement and the difficulties in monitoring contract compliance clauses. Third, the paper arrives at the realisation that the main challenges in delivering and supporting smart urban mobility through procurement relate to the higher-level or cross-cutting challenge of the professionalisation of the procurement workforce and the need to bridge significant (and growing) knowledge gaps, and thus explores existing policy interventions aimed at the professionalisation and networking of procurement officials. The paper concludes with some overall reflections and a call for a more active role by the new Von der Leyen Commission.","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123452268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study provides retraction data, which is believed to give useful insights into retraction and its powerful function. By using RetractionWatch data, a database built based on SQL Server 2016, and some home-made AI, a data set of 18,603 retractions from 1753 to 2019 February covering 127 research field was contributed. The results show a long way of retraction with the popularity of retraction practices since 1999, and the burden in 2010; IEEE, Elsevier, and Springer account for nearly 60% of all retracted papers globally with the record belongs to IEEE even though it is not the organization that publishes most journals; a paper could be retracted for diverse reasons but \"fake peer review\" becomes a major one.","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124460299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lam","doi":"10.2139/ssrn.3423541","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.3423541","url":null,"abstract":"According to a previous study, mathematical set theory in analogous terms of symbols can be used to relate the material, body, and spiritual world to develop artificial intelligence. This paper tries to study how the natural forces — electromagnetic, gravitational, and strong–weak — can be unified by applying quantum mechanics theory. Indeed, Strong–weak forces correspond to materials (the basis of element formation), electromagnetic force refers to the body (human cells generate electricity for mankind activities), and the gravitational force corresponds to the spiritual one (referring to the nature and universe). In this paper, different quantum experiments were performed to verify the above hypotheses. For the electromagnetic, and the Casimir effects were considered. A tabletop experiment was used for the gravitational force. Finally, for the strong–weak forces, then the Baryons mass spectrum was considered. The results show that the “set symbols connection” mentioned in the special rationalisation of Penrose’s philosophy is not only a theory but can also be tested experimentally w.r.t. quantum mechanics. Thus, the implementation of real machine reasonings becomes feasible. In other words, the quantum theories — quantum chromodynamics and electrodynamics together with the quantum gravity can be sublimed into another form of Roger’s three world philosophy. Hence, the QCD, ED and QG give birth to the unified field theory. This is because these theories unify all natural forces and relate the elementary particles in a single theoretical framework — the Roger’s theory through the quantum mechanics behind. The outcome is one may investigate more about early universe and black hole.<br>","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125746827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article provides a literature review of the privacy paradox across fields of study. Many researchers have explored the privacy paradox and come up with the conclusion that decisions taken by individuals regarding the transmission of private data were irrational. This article first provides a systematized review of the extensive literature in psychology, sociology, management, economics and biology that explores the decision-making process related to online transfer of private data. Then, we show that the literature seems to agree on the fact that people act either rationally or with limited rationality. To conclude, we focus on the potential importance of awareness campaigns or key historical moments to explain the different sensitivities people have regarding privacy issues.","PeriodicalId":283525,"journal":{"name":"AARN: Human Borders - Animals","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130945063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
