Since recrystallization temperature measured by the differential scanning calorimetry was 270 C, it can be said that the applicable upper limit is 250 C. However, it is necessary to pay attention for application to a machine element that subjected to high temperature for a long time, such as 200 C × 120 h, since recrystallization is accelerated by keeping high temperature. Since a mechanical energy required for grain growth is increased with decreasing ambient temperature, the nickel foil was applied for the low temperature environment (373K) than the traditional report (473K). Maximum shearing stress that grains grown in 373K was about 1.5 times larger than that in 473K. The calibration equation between the grown grain density, maximum shearing stress, number of cycles and ambient temperature was obtained based on the experimental data. From this equation, the range of measurable shearing stress at various ambient temperatures was calculated and compared with the copper foil. Nickel foil was possible to measure the high shearing stress at low temperatures as compared to the copper foil.","PeriodicalId":282024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japanese Society for Experimental Mechanics","volume":"03 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129681127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A small size specimen which has 5mm in diameter and a new type strain measuring method which uses a non-contact band laser to obtain accurate stress-strain relationship curve of solders at high temperatures are discussed in this study. Materials tested in this study were Sn-3.5Ag and Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu lead-free solders. Static tensile tests were conducted at 313K, 353K and 393K with rapid strain rate to except creep damage influence on stress-strain relationship at high temperatures. Tensile strength and proof stress of the small size specimen were almost same as that of present standard size specimen. These results indicated that newly developed tensile specimen and strain measuring method are useful for investigating the high temperature tensile mechanical properties of solders.","PeriodicalId":282024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japanese Society for Experimental Mechanics","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128447722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is, therefore, important to know the mechanical characteristics of the PCL. The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vivo characteristics of the three-dimensional (3D) deformation and orientation of the PCL during knee flexion using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Ten normal knees were visualized using MRI at full extension (FE), 10°, 20°, 30° and 60° of static knee flexion. The length, strain, elevation and deviation of the PCL were measured using the 3D models of the femur, tibia and PCL reconstructed from the MR images. The PCL length was measured in three portions (Medial: M, Central: C, Lateral: L) to consider its 3D shape. Tendencies of the PCL elongation and strain during knee flexion were different among these 3 portions. The PCL length in M portion was shortest in 10° or 20° and extended in FE and 60°. The PCL length in L portion, on the other hand, extended from FE to 60°. These 3D deformation characteristics were consisted with the changes in the elevation and deviation of the PCL during knee flexion.","PeriodicalId":282024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japanese Society for Experimental Mechanics","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116838268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The accuracy of phase difference analysis using the sampling moiré method is from 1/100 to 1/1000 of the grating pitches. 2D phase distributions of the 2D grating are also obtained with the sampling moiré method. 2D phase difference before and after the deformation gives the displacement at the point and the 2D phase gives the coordinates at the point when the grating pitch is known. Authors proposed an analysis method of a rotation angle from the 2D phase difference distribution and the 2D phase distribution. In this paper, the analysis method of a rotation angle is applied to the dynamic deflection angle distribution measurement of a cantilever. The results are compared with the results obtained using laser displacement meters.","PeriodicalId":282024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japanese Society for Experimental Mechanics","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126289284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, the observed characteristic deformation processes are divided into three types, which correspond to the serrated flow of the A type, the B type and the A+B type, respectively. The deformation process type was shifted to the B type from the A type through the A+B type as the plastic deformation progresses. This phenomenon is considered due to the relationship between the diffusion velocity of solute elements and the moving velocity of dislocations.","PeriodicalId":282024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japanese Society for Experimental Mechanics","volume":"246 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132028053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three membrane models, which are square polyimide films with a flat surface, a wrinkled surface and a creased surface, are treated. An impact load is applied to the corner of the membranes, and a flexural wave propagation as well as a stationary vibration appearing on the membrane surfaces is measured by photogrammetry using a grating projection method. The results show that the vibration characteristics of the membrane surfaces, which are a flexural wave propagation, a natural frequency and a maximum amplitude of the response, are strongly affected by the surface features of the membranes, while the spatial distribution of the logarithmic magnitude of the spectra on the membrane surface has a similar distribution property regardless of the existence of wrinkles and creases.","PeriodicalId":282024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japanese Society for Experimental Mechanics","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128373793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, accurate displacement distribution measurement is important to maintain of their structures. Sampling moiré (SM) method is one of the optical full-field displacement measurement method used in field experiments. In the SM method, the in-plane displacement distribution can be accurately determined using a digital camera and repeated patterns. In this study, we developed a dynamic out-of-plane displacement distribution measurement method based on the SM method using a single camera. In the proposed method, the out-of-plane displacement was measured by considering the relationship between the change of grating pitch in captured image and the magnification of used camera lens. Some researchers proposed the out-of-plane displacement distribution measurement methods by using two or multiple cameras. Compared with their methods, our method has advantages including fast, ease-of-use, and inexpensive equipment. The basic principle and an experimental validation of measurement accuracy were presented. As an application, this technique can be potentially extended to measure the out-of-plane direction vibration frequency in full-field.","PeriodicalId":282024,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japanese Society for Experimental Mechanics","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124924655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
