The data were obtained from 192 medical school students. Adult Attachment Styles Scale, Suicide Probability Scale, and Symptom Check List 90R were used to collect the data. Correlation analysis was utilized to examine the relationships between variables, and the mediating role was determined using the bootstrapping method. Findings showed significant relationships between fearful attachment, psychological symptoms, and suicide probability. Moreover, the fearful attachment was associated with increased psychological symptoms and suicide probability. Psychological symptoms were associated with increased suicide probability. Furthermore, psychological symptoms mediated the relationship between fearful attachment and suicide probability. Psychological symptoms are critical in the relationship between fearful attachment and suicide probability. The current research adds to our knowledge of suicide probability by investigating fearful attachment and psychological symptoms. Besides, it underlies and contributes to the antecedents of suicide probability.","PeriodicalId":280499,"journal":{"name":"Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Dergisi","volume":"20 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140462647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intention to Marry through the Lens of Theory of Planned Behavior and Self-Regulatory Focus","authors":"Aylin Koçak, Athanasios Mouratidis","doi":"10.17066/tpdrd.1251530_4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.17066/tpdrd.1251530_4","url":null,"abstract":"What makes people to take important decisions in their lives, such as marriage? To answer this question, we relied on theory of planned behavior to examine the degree to which peoples’ attitudes, subjective-norms, and behavioral control perceptions predict their intentions to marry. Furthermore, we used self-regulatory focus theory to examine whether such attitudes, norms, and perceptions could be partly explained by peoples’ focus on pursuing-gains versus securing non-losses. We conducted a cross-sectional, web-based survey with a sample of 699 Turkish young adults (70.7% females; Mage = 24.89 years, SD = 4.31). The results of the structural equation modeling showed that promotion-focus positively and prevention-focus negatively related to perceived behavioral control, which in turn negatively related to intentions to marry. Intentions also related positively to attitudes but not to subjective-norms, which however related positively to promotion-focus and negatively to prevention-focus. Gender and age differences were also found. The results are discussed in light of the two theories.","PeriodicalId":280499,"journal":{"name":"Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Dergisi","volume":"8 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140508697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It causes fatal mistakes and has a negative impact on the quality of service. On the other hand, patients and their relatives may be anxious, nervous, sensitive, or tend to show anger due to their situation. Such reasons may bring patients and their relatives face to face with the health workers who should be on the same side. However, health workers and patients share a common goal and must act together. In this context, it is thought that violence will be significantly reduced if the causes leading to violence are eliminated for both groups. In this context, the psychological and social reasons that lead people to act aggressively should be identified and eliminated in order to prevent violence in emergency services. The proposed model aims to provide psychological support to patients and their relatives at the psychological counseling unit to be established, guide health workers during the provision of healthcare services, train health workers on communication, compassion, empathy, and emotion management, and regulate the mood of patients, patient relatives, and health workers in order to prevent violence in emergency services. Various search engines were used for the literature search. The search keywords were determined as “violence in the emergency room”, “causes of violence”, “prevention of violence” and “violence in health”; however, studies including topics such as environmental risk management and safety measures were excluded.","PeriodicalId":280499,"journal":{"name":"Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Dergisi","volume":"8 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140514059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result of the literature review, a total of 4582 studies were identified and these studies were analysed according to their titles and abstracts. As a result of the evaluations, 37 full texts were included in the analysis. The findings obtained from the analyses were examined and it was determined that there was no significant difference in all subgroups regarding the relationship between emotion regulation difficulties and depression, and the effect size between the two variables did not change. As a result of the REM analysis, it was seen that the generalised effect size of the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation and depression was moderate (0.52). Considering the scanning process within the scope of this study, it can be stated that there are too many measurement differences and deficiencies in reporting.","PeriodicalId":280499,"journal":{"name":"Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Dergisi","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139218133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between MN levels, SPN levels and SMD levels of adolescents and to examine the predictive level of MN and SPN on SMD levels of adolescents. Methods: The model was predictive associational survey model. The sample was consisted of 521 adolescents (Mage: 16,02; SD: 1,16; %37 girls, %67 boys) from the central districts of Izmir province in Turkey. Data were collected by Social Media Disorder Scale, Mindful Attention and Awareness Scale – Adolescents, Psychological Need Satisfaction Scale with a questionnaire to gather demographic information. Results: Results showed that there were negative correlations between mindfulness levels and SMD levels, between the satisfaction of competence need levels and SMD levels. There were positive correlations between the satisfaction of relatedness need levels and the SMD levels. There was no significant relationship between the satisfaction need for autonomy and social media disorder. Mindfulness, satisfaction of competence need and relatedness need together, predict the social media disorder levels of adolescents significantly and they explain 26,1% of the total variance. Conclusion: Mindfulness and competence need satisfaction protect adolescents from social media disorder more than a quarter. However as the need to be related increases, social media disorder increase.","PeriodicalId":280499,"journal":{"name":"Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Dergisi","volume":"260 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139237917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective approach for treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It has been found that there are various reasons for the development of social anxiety disorder. Therefore, it can be evaluated by considering details such as life history, personal characteristics, the environment in which anxiety is experienced, and a lack of skills. CBT has also been found to be an effective method of reducing social anxiety. In this study, a 16-year-old patient who developed PTSD after witnessing long-term violence against her mother and recovered as a result of CBT is presented. In addition to PTSD symptoms, the patient reported that she felt significant anxiety and fear in many social situations where she could be evaluated by people, and that she engaged in safety and avoidance behaviors. CBT was administered for these complaints, and her symptoms improved significantly.","PeriodicalId":280499,"journal":{"name":"Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Dergisi","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139315811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study group of this research, which is based on a qualitative research design, was determined by purposive sampling and consists of 88 teachers working in secondary and high schools. The thematic analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analysis, four main themes and many sub-themes were determined, which represent the knowledge and experience of teachers about trauma, the effects of trauma on the teacher's life functions, obstacles to trauma intervention, and recommendations for the future. As a result, it was observed that teachers had significant educational and equipment deficiencies in both trauma knowledge and trauma intervention, as well as having experiences with student traumas. As a result, it can be said that increasing the knowledge and intervention skills of teachers about trauma will be an important approach.","PeriodicalId":280499,"journal":{"name":"Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Dergisi","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139315763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
