González-Soto, Daniel Duarte","doi":"10.47756/aihc.y8i1.128","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47756/aihc.y8i1.128","url":null,"abstract":"In an unprecedented effort to comprehensively address the issues of gender violence, harassment, and bullying, the University of Guadalajara has implemented a support structure that involves the University Rights Ombudsman (DDU, Defensoria de los Derechos Universitarios, acronym in Spanish), the Unit for Equality (UI, Unidad de Igualdad, acronym in Spanish), and the First Contact offices (PC, Primeros Contactos, acronym in Spanish). Furthermore, The University of Guadalajara has established the Protocol for the Prevention, Attention, Sanction, and Eradication of gender violence (PPASE, Protocolo para la Prevención, Atención, Sansión y Erradicación de la Violencia de Género, acronym in Spanish) [1]. The University of Guadalajara has a network of university campuses throughout the state of Jalisco in Mexico. The Centro Universitario del Sur is one of these campuses, commonly referred to as CUSur. Despite these significant advancements in the implementation of the PPASE, the university community at CUSur generally faces challenges in understanding the processes, situations, and characteristics of these entities and regulations, placing victims or potential victims in a vulnerable situation. It is essential to expedite the information and attention processes for potential victims, and in this regard, technology can play a pivotal role. We are developing a technological intervention strategy to facilitate access for the university community, especially for victims who need to utilize the resources offered by the University of Guadalajara. To achieve this goal, we research user experience and identify the current usability of the webpage, focusing on understanding specific needs and challenges. The goal is to design an intuitive and appealing user interface that provides clear and accessible information about the available processes, services, and resources. However, the specific needs and characteristics of this workforce have not been studied nearly enough. For this reason, we have conducted a series of surveys, questionnaires, and design sessions directly with Latin-American users of crowd-working platforms. Our aim was to create a system to empower crowd-workers with AI enhanced tools for their day-to-day tasks. As a result, we created a customized platform, \"La Independiente\", and two web plugins. Considering the aforementioned, an area where benefits can be derived from the communication between two beings is when the support of a pet is needed, particularly in the case of assistance dogs for individuals facing certain illnesses that require their aid. This encompasses a crucial aspect of human development from an early age to prevent future issues and to allow individuals to thrive in a society without limitations. Autism is an incurable condition but depending on the age of diagnosis and the treatment received, it can play a pivotal role in social and mental development as well as in emotional expressions. Assistance dogs for individuals with autism aid in their well-being by providing emotional companionship, and the profound connection that can be established between them has been demonstrated. Many individuals with autism find it challenging to engage in social interactions, and having a companion can make these interactions more comfortable. Furthermore, assistance dogs can serve as bridges to facilitate social connections, thereby helping the user improve their social behavior. This platform is one of the main outcomes set out for a broad multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary deaf literacy project. As one of the initial user research activities, we held a co-creation workshop with six deaf participants, one sign language interpreter, and four hearing researchers. In this workshop we explored the application of a design technique intended to enhance participation and communication by relying on low-tech tangible representations of interface components that can be combined to generate interaction designs. Tracking applications rely on abstract numerical or graphical visualizations to make this information accessible to us. However, these visualizations can be hard to interpret, and even be harmful to already vulnerable groups. Hence, we propose to give feedback in the form of an enhanced heart rate interoception and an embodied artificial agent. This method relies on the person’s inherent understanding of their own body. It is a subtle and more natural way to gauge the meaning of off-the-shelf sensors’ feedback. A wearable pet prototype that presents emotion through visuo-haptic feedback is evaluated in a match and a mismatch group. Participants in both groups answered self-report and perceived affect of the interoceptive feedback without significant differences.
