The support of QoS is done through the interaction between two CORBA objects, the micro QoS manager and the object resource manager. A key feature of this scheme is the ability to provide an accurate QoS support according to the application type while enabling a high level of maintenance and reusability. The paper outlines the architectural principles used and describes our implementation in a video-on-demand application context.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. However, little is understood about how to design scenarios and their usage sessions to support these different tasks. This paper presents SACRE, a theoretically-grounded framework which supports a requirements engineering team to design and use scenarios. As well as reporting empirical findings which highlight the importance of designing scenarios to fit the task, it describes findings from disciplines such as cognitive science and knowledge engineering which inform scenario design through guidelines. It ends with proposals to better design scenarios.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Tenth International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications. But existing semistructured data models, such as OEM, cannot support XML naturally and fully. A new data model named XOM is proposed in this paper as the common data model for the Web data source. Based on rooted connected directed graphs both cyclic and acyclic, whose nodes are labeled and edges are ranked, XOM can describe the aggregation relationship as well as the general reference relationship (linkage) between XML elements. Through ranked closure operation, both tree-oriented and graph-oriented models can be unified in XOM. As the formal foundation for query processing and optimization for Web data, a new algebra called XOM algebra, which includes six operations, i.e., object union, difference, select, project, paste and cut, is also proposed. In comparison with relational algebra, XOM algebra is more flexible and powerful.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. It describes a systematic way in which collected requirements can be brought to a concrete version plan for different products within a product system. The described process supports in particular the assessment of importance and uncertainty of possible requirement variations and the impact analysis of necessary requirement changes. Further it enables CCOTS providers to plan future versions in a flexible way.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Using the distance distribution for approximate similarity queries in high-dimensional metric spaces 在高维度量空间中使用距离分布进行近似相似查询

This leads to a new paradigm for similarity search, called PAC-NN (probably approximately correct nearest neighbor) queries, aiming to break the \"dimensionality curse\". PAC-NN queries return, with probability at least 1-/spl delta/, a (1+/spl epsiv/)-approximate NN-an object whose distance from the query q is less than (1+/spl epsiv/) times the distance between q and its NN. Analytical and experimental results obtained for sequential and index-based algorithms show that PAC-NN queries can be efficiently processed even on very high-dimensional spaces and that control can be exerted in order to tradeoff the accuracy of the result and the cost.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. It was shown by means of a case study in the municipality of Soest that these multi-temporal databases could not be used to monitor changes in actual land use by using a simple GIS overlay technique. Most of the resulting changes were explained by the accuracy of the data sets themselves rather than by the 'real world' changes. An initial step in an object-structured approach has been developed, resulting in improved monitoring outcome for a detail of the Top 10 vector database. The method requires (empirical) threshold values for decision rules on overlap percentage, shape factor and reliability of thematic changes. A considerable part of the noise was filtered out at various levels of detail. The method will be further developed towards a monitoring tool for noise reduction, applicable to various spatio-temporal land use databases and data quality independent.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The autonomy of providers severely restricts the scope of control by authorities other than the owner of each service, and makes the design of the distributed software architecture a challenging undertaking. We present our ongoing work toward the development of a distributed software substrate to support controlled interactions among components that are owned and managed by autonomous authorities. This infrastructure is based on a distributed component model, designed to support the paradigm of service level management for specifying and managing commitments made by independent service providers to their clients on performance related attributes of services.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Special security mechanisms are needed for the implementation of secure electronic payment systems that permit the integration of electronic transactions. In the framework of the information brokerage system that has been developed by the GAIA project of the European union a number of such mechanisms have been proposed and implemented. As a result, an integrated secure electronic payment system is provided that covers a number of different payment methods preserving maximum security of electronic transactions.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. In such an environment, a means to effectively locate relevant agents for relevant tasks is indispensable. We examine issues in the design and implementation of a 'directory agent' that stores meta-information of other agents. In particular, we present results from our work on building a scalable directory agent for a large scale, distributed agent based e-commerce system (the ABECOS project).","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
