Currently, correction of a gummy smile is becoming a prime demand by the patients. An exposure of 3 mm of gingival tissue is diagnosed as a gummy smile. Many reasons contribute to a gummy smile and the availability of treatment options falls under a wide range. Aims: The aim was to assess knowledge among dental students on the gummy smile and its treatment plans. Methods and Material: The questions were given as Google forms to the participants of the study. Students pursuing bachelors in dentistry were chosen for the study. A set of 20 questions were framed in a questionnaire form with multiple choice questions and students were asked to pick out a single option from provided questions. Questions asked were on the etiology of the gummy smile, lip repositioning procedures, use of botox and gum contouring procedures. Results: The results depict a correlation between the different treatment modalities of the gummy smile but the choice of treatment is governed by various factors such as patient’s expectation, expenditure, and aesthetic sense and the skill set of the clinician. This study reveals good knowledge among the participants regarding the factors related to a gummy smile. Conclusion: In a nutshell, this study indicates that the dental undergraduates have a good knowledge about the gummy smile and its treatment options available. They have an insight about the available treatment modalities but are not equipped with adequate knowledge regarding the diagnostic criteria.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126122035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: The main aim was to study the compliance of parenteral iron sucrose therapy in pregnant woman along with an additional objective which was to study the pattern of treatment interruption and adverse events observed by them. Methods: This study was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine in the rural and urban field practice area of district Nuh. A list of three hundred and eighty four anaemic pregnant females put on IVIS therapy, fetched from the health centre and relevant details were documented. Result: Out of total of 384 study participants, 291 (75.8%) were compliant with IVIS therapy i.e., they received all four doses. Out of total 93 either non-compliant or partially compliant subjects, most of them (51.6%, n=48) missed 3 doses whereas 22 participants (23.7%) missed 2 doses of the IVIS therapy. Ten study participants (10.7%) showed non-compliance to the therapy. Multigravida subjects were either non or partial compliant compared to primigravida. The three most common adverse events recorded at the time of infusion of 1st dose of IVIS therapy were swelling at injection site, pruritus, and muscle pain or joint pain experienced by 32 (8.3%), 17 (4.4%) and 16 (4.2%) study participants respectively. Conclusion: IVIS therapy is relatively safe therapy and well tolerated by anaemic pregnant females when given as slow infusion. Multigravida subjects were either non or partial compliant compared to primigravida females for IVIS therapy.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"444 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115611268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Understanding the resilience in mothers (caregivers) is becoming more important as a process in the area of disabilities, for quality development and caring of children with disabilities. The question tthat comes to mind is, what factors make some families do well in adverse conditions while others fight to keep their family life functional, when they are subjected to similar stresses? The aim of this research is to explore the role of resilience factors in mothers having children with disabilities. This study was conducted to assess the resilience of mothers who have children with disabilities. In this scientific study all 300 mothers (100 mothers with intellectual disability, 100 mothers with locomotor disability, and 100 mothers of normal children) were selected from northern India. The resilience scales were administered to assess the resilience variable; the scale has the 4-factor solution, which had 31 items: the alpha reliability coefficient was 0.95. The result of the study shows that the F-value for resilience in mothers of intellectually disabled children, children with locomotor disabilities and of normal children the F value for resilience is 198.379 which is significant at 0.001 levels of significance. This shows that there is difference within the group of mothers of intellectually disabled children, children with locomotor disabilities and normal children. Findings reveal that the level of resilience is different in mothers of intellectually disabled children, children with locomotor disablilities and normal children. The dentification of factors that promote resilience in mothers of children with intellectual disabilities is likely to advance clinical practice by providing new emphasis in clinical areas in family- centered care. Evidence supports the theory that resilience is linked to the availability and accessibility of culturally relevant resources. The results are especially important for building a group of resilient mothers who will be involved in their children’s recovery.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"23 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129623069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Work from home, which has been becoming the new normal is suspected to increase the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and stress. Aim: To assess the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain among the work from home population and hence bring the required changes to ergonomics. Methods and Materials: This is a cross-sectional study, conducted among the urban population (IT employees) of Chengalpattu district. A total of 180 participants were included in the study. Standardized Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, adapted to fit the current study was used as a self-administered online questionnaire to collect data from the participants. Results: Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among work from home population was found to be 84% with low backache being the most common musculoskeletal pain. Around 50% of the participants either had an increase in pain (18.9%) or reported that the pain started only during the lockdown (30.6%). Majority of the participants (55.6%) had more than 8 hours of work per day, which may be attributed to the increase in musculoskeletal pain. Perceived stress levels were found to be increased during the work from home period. Conclusion: The absence of ergonomic office furniture may lead to increased faulty posture increasing the musculoskeletal pain, hence awareness on factors like right posture, using the right furniture should be ensured among home working population. By bringing out the required changes in ergonomics for the home working population, the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and stress can be reduced.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126061702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Behavioural issues such as overeating and sedentary lifestyle have impact on health through an increase in body mass index due to excessive deposition of body fat. Thus, it impacts on our body weight through positive energy balance in which there is an increase energy intake and decrease energy expenditure. On the other hand, it can be controlled through appropriate social support and optimum mental health. Aims: The objective of this study was to reveal predictor role of social support on mental health among obese and non-obese using regression analysis, to know mean difference in social support and mental health using Mann-Whitney test, and to identify the level of social support and mental health among obese and non-obese individuals. Methods and Material: The study design was non-experimental, quantitative study with descriptive in nature. The participants were 250 obese and 250 non-obese people and were collected from in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, India. Both obese and non-obese participants were asked them to fill questionnaires with psychological tools namely the mental health inventory-38 (MHI-38) and multidimensional perceived social support scale (MDPSS). Results: The data distribution were in non-normal pattern and the statistical test used were non-parametric test. The results stated that the predictor variable social support has shown significant positive impact on mental health. The effect of social support over mental health was high among non-obese (R = .406, R2 = .168, adjusted R2=.164, co-efficient B = .667 and p = .000) than obese (R = .522, R2 = .272, adjusted R2 = .270, co-efficient B = .729 and p = .000). However, the bio psychosocial factors associated with the phenomenon of perception continue to explore and further the current knowledge on CS in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The main purpose of this study was to determine the extent of associative relationship between central nervous system sensitization and bio psychosocial measures in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Settings and Design: An observational cross-sectional study was carried out in a tertiary care hospital’s outpatient unit. Methods and Materials: Two hundred patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain were included in the present cross-sectional study. They completed questionnaires such as Central sensitisation inventory (CSI), Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), Pain Catastrophizing index (PCI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Widespread Pain Index (WPI), Symptom Severity Score (SS), Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10 SCORE) and Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS). Results: The bio psychosocial factors showed mild to moderate correlation with CSI score ,FSS (r=0.432); TSK (r=0.432); K10 score (r=0.450);PCI score (r=0.465); Total (WPI+SS) score (r=0.467) and ISI score(r=0.249).These bio psychosocial factors in a statistically significant hierarchical regression model showed 37.9 % variance on CSI score (F- 31.39;P< 0.001) where kinesiophobia and Insomnia did not satisfy the model fit. Conclusion: Even the CS showed a significant association with bio psychosocial factors, it kept kinesiophobia and Insomnia out in its variance contribution.","PeriodicalId":276735,"journal":{"name":"Chettinad Health City Medical Journal","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114526725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It involves the wrapping of a tourniquet or pneumatic cuff over the muscle at a quick repetition rate during low-intensity muscle contractions. It is a muscle-strengthening technique used in physical therapy clinics to help patients regain muscle function following an injury or surgery. This is performed by temporarily cutting off blood flow to the muscles during the exercise. There were no linguistic or regional limitations in the literature searches for this article.
