The aim of the present research is to analyse the field work carried out in Nuuk (Greenland) on the development of adult learners’ 21st century skills in Greenland underpinning the elaboration of implications for adult education in Greenland. The methods of the present research comprise both theoretical and empirical methods. The empirical study was based on fieldwork. Two on-site visits in Nuuk between the 8-12th August 2022 were carried out. Observation and participant observation were implemented. A semi-structured interview with two interviewees was conducted. The literature review allows for a conclusion that adult education in Greenland is mentioned neither in Greenland educational policy documents or scientific publications. Despite that, the analysis of the implemented fieldwork allows drawing a conclusion that adult education has been established on a municipal level like the centre Majoriaq, and on a non-governmental level like Kofoeds Skole. Both theoretical and empirical analysis contribute to the conclusion that adult learners’ 21st century skills in Greenland are being developed. However, these skills would need more joint work from all the adult education stakeholders. The ability of the society of the future to develop itself, to provide for the sovereignty of its country, to strengthen its economy, to raise its level of prosperity, to preserve and enrich its culture is shaped and developed in today's schools and universities as the next generations are learning and studying there. They will be managing the country in the future, taking care of sustainable development of the society, the economy of their country, its security and defence, being at the heart of our country's future society. Therefore, innovations in the content of general secondary education in Latvia are needed by introducing a new subject of National Defence Training in schools. The legal basis for this has already been prepared in the form of laws and other regulations. Model curricula for general secondary education and the Youth Guard have been developed. Since in global forums as well as in scientific publications at the end of the 20th century the ecological paradigm has been justified as a transdisciplinary paradigm, but the ecological approach in human thinking, in promoting the development of children/youth, in all kinds of activities (in all areas of human activity, including education) has been justified as an imperative, which has become more and more relevant in the 21st century, the aim of the research was to substantiate the diversity of ecological approaches in the education of young people in the field of national defence. The results of the research demonstrate that the ecological approach is visible in the development of the national defence content. It is also common in the justification for the many aspects of the national defence learning environment.","PeriodicalId":276690,"journal":{"name":"Education Reform: Education Content Research and Implementation Problems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130049923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the moment, the restrictions are reduced, and more opportunities to choose between online, offline and mixed education have become available. The goal of this research is to identify and describe the tendencies of choosing online studies for adult education in Latvia. The following questions are viewed in this research: Which factors affect the tendency to choose online studies for adult education? What are the correlations between the respondent profiles (age, marital status, previous education, etc.) and the affecting preconditions for choosing online education? During the research, 131 respondents from the entire country filled a form and participated in a survey, which was available online. The statistical data processing was done using the Kruskal-Wallis test, the Spearman’s correlation and descriptive statistics.","PeriodicalId":276690,"journal":{"name":"Education Reform: Education Content Research and Implementation Problems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131152016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The levels of folklore competence were determined by analysing the use of lexemes belonging to the semantic field of folklore in secondary school students’ essays. Out of 157 (or 34%) essays containing lexemes belonging to the semantic field of folklore, the majority (i.e. 43%) show the lowest level of folklore competence with domination of the naming function without further elaboration, or is limited to a broader elaboration of just one element without any perceived correlation with a broader folklore context. At the second level of folklore competence that can be observed in 45 essays (29%), secondary school students show the ability not only to name but also to classify into simpler systems 2- 3 realia belonging to the semantic field of folklore. At the third level of competence represented in 9 essays (or 6%), secondary school students show the ability to reason, analyse, explain causes, integrate, infer and identify problems using 4-6 lexemes belonging to the semantic field of folklore. The overview of the essays written in 2018 shows that most of the secondary school pupils’ folklore interests are related to the events dedicated to Latvia’s centenary, in particular Latvian Song and Dance Festival, which is typologically connected with the folk songs and Cabinet of Dainas (‘dainu skapis’) collected by Krisjanis Barons. In terms of genres, secondary school pupils have mostly stayed in the genre of fairy tale, which dominates at the first level of folklore competence (43 out of 100 essays), but it often merges with the understanding of the literary fairy tale and is subject to a formal application of genres. The study shows that folklore competence at its highest possible levels is more convincingly demonstrated by pupils from minority schools, which may be explained by the socio-cultural competence building content included in the minority school curricula.","PeriodicalId":276690,"journal":{"name":"Education Reform: Education Content Research and Implementation Problems","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121680850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
