Due to reduction in generation of income from agriculture sector, the rural population has led to migration. It can be controlled by generating meaning full employment opportunities in rural areas through encouraging entrepreneurial activities. The present study was conducted to know whether the economic condition of trainees have enhanced after attending training on honey processing at Rural Technology Park, National Institute of Rural Development-Panchayat Raj (NIRD and PR), Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The trainees’ occupational status and monthly income has been enhanced after training from 10 to 40 per cent of self-employment and 15-50 per cent of income has increased, respectively. From the study it can be deduced that purchasing power of the people risesby proposing income generating opportunities to the people in villages.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"515 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130137604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Soil health card (soil test result) can be used to optimize the use of fertilizer in the integrated nutrient management (INM) system. It is essential to create maximum awareness among farmers about judicious use of chemical fertilizers and use of soil health cards. Ten farmers randomly selected from ten different villages that have availed soil testing technique with the total of 100 farmers. The data collect through personal interview method with the pre-tested schedule designed for the purpose. Majority of respondents had poor knowledge regarding soil testing practices but respondents with 45.00 mean per cent score had maximum knowledge regarding benefits of soil testing. While, maximum knowledge gap was observed in proper technique of sampling for horticultural crops. It was also observed that majority of farmers were in positive attitude (72%) with “Soil testing is necessary for better crop production”. Majority of the farmers (76%) did not agree with the statement that “Soil testing is wastage of time and money”. Half of the (50%) respondents expressed that expenditure of crop production decreases after soil testing. Sixty one (61) per cent adopters said that, “Soil testing is very long process”. Therefore, as per problem faced and suggested by the farmers more scientific and educational trainings and facilities are required to disseminate the technology at large.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122437037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results display that the farmers were unaware about the availability of quality seed and the place from where it could be purchased. Similarly, the unawareness was quite significant about pesticides, horticulture nursery and farm implements. Most of farmers (87.50%) were aware about market place, where they could sell from produced. Likewise, awareness was higher towards transport facilities. Unawareness was quite high among farmers (90.00%) about market laws, percentage of interest and repayment norms. The farmers need to be made aware on regular basis about different programmes related to oilseeds, pulses, food grains etc., so that they could avail different kinds of subsidy and facilities like training exposure visit etc. besides of project related technologies.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133234153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The traditional medium slender grain cultivar BPT-5204 is most popularly grown variety during Kharif and occupies 30-40 per cent of area in the district, which is susceptible to BPH and blast resulting in low yields and low net returns. Hence, on farm trials were conducted during 2012-13, 2013- 14 and 2014-15 with objective to assess the performance of new rice variety NDLR-7 which is medium slender short duration (130-135d) variety with tolerance to BPH and blast. During all the three years maximum number of BPH/sample was very low in NDLR-7 than BPT 5204 and maximum collections were recorded in November followed by October month. During all the years the variety recorded 6.1t/ha with average net returns of Rs.76,808/- per ha whereas BPT-5204 recorded 5.83t/ha with average net returns of Rs.68,542/ha. Because of its high yield, pest tolerance and good cooking quality it is widely accepted by farmers through horizontal spread of technology. Due to extension activities of KVK, Kalikiri area under NDLR-7 has been increased from 80ha in 2013-14 to 2000 ha in 2016-17 owing to its tolerance to BPH, fine grain and high market price and first choice of farmers, millers and traders.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131383812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blackgram crop was sown as rice fallow in Rabi season during 2018-19 and 2019-20 in an area of 4229 ha and 4950 ha also it was found in an increase in yield of 32.7 per cent and 47.3 per cent in FLD field, respectively. Thus, it was concluded that front line demonstrations conducted under the close supervision of scientists is one of the most important tools of extension to demonstrate crop management practices at farmers’ field. FLDs motivate farmers to adopt scientific practices. So, FLDs are to be designed, supervised with extension activities viz., training programmes, demonstration, field days etc. to increase yields and profits of farmers.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131332715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pest and disease intensity is increasing slowly due to many factors. The control of leaf folder and stem borer, many methods has been adopted but insecticides are still playing a key role for its control. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is one of the ecofriendly approach which can be utilized to control the non-judicial uses of insecticides to control rice insect pest. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ghantasala conducted frontline demonstrations to demonstrate the efficacy of rice IPM technology on farmers’ field under real farming situation during Kharif 2014 to 2016. Altogether totally 45 demonstrations were laid out over an area of 12 hectares. Increased yield ranged from 28.50 to 35.25 q/ha with average yield of 31.90 q/ha was observed in IPM module and also recorded highest grain yield of rice 35.25 q/ha in IPM module compared to non- IPM module. It has been observed that among IPM trained farmers, various cultural practices have wide spread adoption as against very low adoption of biological practices. Because of poor knowledge about pest-specific lures, its use and non - availability lead to poor adoption of the mechanical practices. The major problems reported in biological practices and its adoption were its slow action against the target pest, lack of easy availability, short shelf-life and low survival of these bio-agents on farmers’ field. Therefore, more awareness programmes and more demonstrations should be demonstrated on IPM module which is eco-friendly and safer to non-targeted organism in comparison to conventional insecticides.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125307896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
