Despite a great variety of advantages, there is a significant number of barriers to a broader adoption of FOSS projects in computing education. We present a number of techniques forming a scaffolded agile approach to externally-sourced software engineering projects that help address some of the barriers to FOSS adoption.","PeriodicalId":274484,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 27th ACM Conference on on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education Vol. 2","volume":"177 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123569506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was conducted with 1st-semester students who never had any in-person contact and started their course under emergency online teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic. We adapted the Lego4Scrum approach and instead of plastic bricks, we combined an online whiteboard (Miro) with a communication tool (Discord) for teams.","PeriodicalId":274484,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 27th ACM Conference on on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education Vol. 2","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127169307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Frame-based editing sits between block-based and text-based editing, featuring the easy graphical structuring of block-based editing but also the fast keyboard entry/manipulation of text-based editing. Thus frame-based editing in Strype can act as a bridge between block-based editing and text-based editing, especially if the latter involves programming in Python. In our courseware presentation we will provide a demonstration of the Strype editor. We will showcase Strype's unique features and show what it can bring to the educational community. We also hope that the presentation will permit a fruitful exchange between Strype's developers and teachers who may use it.","PeriodicalId":274484,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 27th ACM Conference on on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education Vol. 2","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117206132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
