They were designed for currents from 20 A to 100 A. At the lower current range the shunts were compared to NRC coaxial shunts built from discrete resistors. At the higher current range they were compared to the old working standards, a set of commercial shunts. The paper presents the description of the shunt design as well as results of their experimental performance and uncertainty evaluation.","PeriodicalId":274130,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference IMTC 2007","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129234728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The need for faster development, system reconfigurability and flexibility required the introduction of middleware frameworks for robot systems. One promising middleware framework is the RT-middleware technology (and its implementation named OpenRTM-aist), which is getting more and more popular in robot system design. Vision sensors are one of the most important sensors in robot systems. When constructing a new robot system, it is desirable that vision and image processing components are just as easily integrated as any other robot components. Unfortunately, RT-middleware is not yet equipped with such RT-components. This need can be satisfied by introducing a new image processing toolbox, directly obtained from DIMAN, a existing software previously developed by the authors. DIMAN is a distributed framework for image processing, with a modular architecture very similar to RT-middleware. The modules of DIMAN satisfy the needs of robot systems with respect to vision related tasks. Through experimental results usability of DIMAN in robot vision will be shown in this paper. Furthermore DIMAN module deployment in RT-middleware based robot systems will be introduced also.","PeriodicalId":274130,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference IMTC 2007","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114616854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main part of the system is a sonar unit with three hydrophones connected to a conditioning block controlled by an acquisition, control and processing unit expressed by a real-time controller, a FPGA core and a set of I/O modules. The conditioned signals are acquired and processed at the real time controller level using wavelets filtering algorithms in order to extract the relative time delay information. An intelligent algorithm based on a neural network uses the time delays and the sonar structure azimuth as input values to calculate the range and bearing angle associated with the detected underwater acoustic source. Elements of software implementation that uses LabVIEWreal-time and LabVIEWFPGA modules, wavelet optimal filtering study and localization results are included in the paper.","PeriodicalId":274130,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference IMTC 2007","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121587883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is based on the autoregressive model of a sought signal. A new approach of model parameters determination, its order and noise dispersion, is being offered. Available estimation of the noise dispersion is close to the real one. It allows to define the function of empirical data spectral characteristic change. The analysis of the signal as dynamic invariant in respect of the linear shift transformation yields the function of model consistency. Use of these both functions enables to detect the wave packets at signal to noise ratio as from -20 dB and above. Areas of signal presence were used for estimation of frequency and amplitude by high order autoregressive model with unitary symmetry.","PeriodicalId":274130,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference IMTC 2007","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124318052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regarding energy and information, smaller nodes carry less onboard energy than larger nodes, and they are worse antennas for communication at longer wavelength, i.e., lower energy per photon, so they have smaller total information communication capacity. Regarding energy and lifetime, i.e., ratio of stored energy to baseline power demand, a node's baseline power demand usually scales as a smaller power of its linear dimension than does its energy storage capacity, so its operating time -and, if it is mobile, its operating range -usually falls more rapidly than linearly with smaller size. Depending on operating scenarios -e.g., whether or not you expect a mobile entity's speed to be independent of its size -and constraints - e.g., whether the system as a whole can use only a limited quantity of some critical material -tradeoffs arise between node size and node spacing. Node spacing affects both the power required to communicate between nodes, and the spatial density of gathered environmental data, often the essential measure of the deployed network's effectiveness. This paper demonstrates a general approach to analyzing -hence optimizing in the face of specified constraints -the competing consequences of large and small size, and examines them briefly but explicitly in plausible practical implementations.","PeriodicalId":274130,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference IMTC 2007","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126302369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lichens are widely used as bioindicators, that is organisms able to indicate the presence and amount of atmospheric pollutants. The proposed approach requires the measure of lichens fluorescence response by means of a self-developed biophotonic instrument, in order to obtain an objective evaluation of lichens stress status. The lichens rise fluorescence response was measured, following the OJIP procedure, a standardized laboratory method for plants health analysis. The experimental validation of this approach was done in two steps. Firstly, lichens of \"Physcia Adscendens\" species were collected on poplar trees, in tree areas: the first and the second areas near an industrial zone, direction of the prevailing winds, the third at a distance of about ten kilometres. Then the changes in fluorescence activity were evaluated, placing near an industrial area several samples of \"Flavoparmelia Caperata (L.) Hale\" lichens, collected in a non-polluted area. A fluorescence response modification was observed, demonstrating that changes in atmospheric pollution could be monitored by means of differential measurements on suitable samples. To validate the obtained results, the pollution degree was estimated using also a widely accepted method, which is the evaluation of lichen biodiversity. Lichen vegetation of the poplar trees was surveyed using a sampling grid often units. The Lichen Biodiversity Index (LBI) was calculated as the sum of the frequencies of all species within the grid. As a result of the comparison between fluorescence response shape and LBI evaluation, a real correlation was found, demonstrating the proposed approach effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":274130,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference IMTC 2007","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126476263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
