The present study aims to evaluate the cardiac protective effect of Terminalia muelleri (TM) in diabetic rats. Treatment of diabetic rats with a daily oral dose of (TM) extract (200 mg/kg b.wt) or pioglitazone tablet (1.58 mg/kg b.wt) for four weeks resulted in a significant decrease in the glucose, total cholesterol (TC), triglycride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), malondialdehyde (MDA), aspartate amino transferase (AST) and creatin kinase-MB (CK-MB) activities as well as homocysteine (Hcy) and troponin-1 (cTn-1) levels in association with a significant increase in high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level, glutathione (GSH) content and nuclear factor-erythroid factor 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) level when compared with diabetic rats. These data suggest that TM might be an effective antidiabetic agent in the prevention of diabetic complication. TM extract could help in combating against oxidation damage in cardiac tissue.","PeriodicalId":273673,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Applied Sciences","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124725190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results showed that single or combined application of such two fertilizers was very effective in improving berry set, yield as well as physical and chemical properties of the berries. Meaningless effect on such parameters was observed due to raising their concentrations from 0.1 to 0.2 %. Spraying orthophosphoric acid surpassed the application of copper sulphate on improving the productivity of the vines. For obtaining the highest economical yield and improving quality of berries, it is recommended to spray Red Roomy grapevines with orthophosphoric acid plus copper sulphate four times at 0.1 % per each. The relative increases in yield/vine were about 89.6 and 123.0% for spraying orthophosphoric acid with copper sulphate each at 0.1% than unsprayed vines in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, respectively.","PeriodicalId":273673,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Applied Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122640149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three levels of N fertilizer (i.e., 0, 80 and 160 kg N ha -1 ) were used and laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. The results showed that all tested characteristics were significantly increased with increasing N fertilizer treatments showing grain yields per plant varying from 2.48 to 18.08 g plant -1 and grain yields per hectare ranging from 101.23 to 770.2 kg ha -1 . In contrast, NUE was significantly reduced with increasing N fertilizer rates from 5.52 to 4.31. The results indicated that there were significant effects of treatments on some chemical components in grains at 0 and 160 kg N ha -1 (i.e., 14.81 and 17.13% protein respectively); N, phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) contents in grains, roots and stem. According to the correlation between the vegetative traits and grain yield kg ha -1 varied from 0.95 for no. of leaves plant -1 to 0.99 for chlorophyll content, fresh weight plant -1 as well as leaf area. Also, the simple correlation among agronomic and chemical traits had significant and positive relations with the grain yield kg ha -1 under the investigated N treatments with an exception of P content that recorded a relatively high negative correlation with grain yield ha -1 (-0.589). It may be concluded from obtained results that dry weight as a vegetative trait, grain yield plant -1 as an agronomic trait and the ash as a chemical trait should be taking in considerations suggesting the importance of direct selection for these traits as important ones with grain yield ha -1 under studied treatments.","PeriodicalId":273673,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Applied Sciences","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123183644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To study the effect of addition of bio fertilizer (Azotobacter chroccocum) and different levels of inorganic nitrogen fertilizer (Three rates of N fertilizer 100%,75% and 50% of recommended dose RD) on stalk diameter, stalk length, stalk weight, total soluble solids purity, sucrose, sugar recovery sugar yield and cane yield of three sugar cane varieties (G.99-103, G.472003 and G.T.54-9) strip plot design with three reps. The results indicated that sugar cane varieties and bio fertilizer (Azotobacter chroccocum) with different levels of inorganic nitrogen fertilizer exhibit significant effects on all studied traits in both seasons. The variety G.99-103 recorded the highest values of stalk diameter, stalk length, stalk weight and N%, N uptake plant, N uptake fed., millable cane ( ton fed ) and sugar yield (ton fed) in both seasons, while G.T.54-9 variety recorded the highest values of total soluble solids, purity%, sucrose and sugar recovery %. The addition 75% N (160 kg N fed) + Azotobacter chroccocum gave the highest values in all studied characters except purity % in both seasons. The interactions between sugar cane varieties and bio fertilizer (Azotobacter chroccocum) with different levels of inorganic nitrogen fertilizer significantly affected on the studied traits in both seasons. The results of the qualitative analysis and phytochemical screening profiles indicated that, most of the natural tested products are presented in N. oleander L leave extracts, for L. camara, most of the natural products tested for are present except saponins and glycosides. The chemical compositions of the leaf ethanol extract of N. oleander and L. camara were investigated using gas chromatography –mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). Analysis of N.oleander leaf ethanol extract revealed the existence of twenty two components identified, of them 4-0-methylmannose, Squalene, n-hexadecanoic acid, vitamin E; 3,5-dimethoxyacetophenone; 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid and benzofuran-2, 3-dihydro, represent 35.92%, 14.72%, 11.10%, 7,57%, 7.13%, 6.84 %, 3.19%, respectively, the other components were ranged from 1.3 to 1.97 %.
