In the proposed distributed scheme, the relay sensors do not need to share information about the received signals. An mean-square error design is pursued and the performance is shown to improve as the number of relay sensors (N) increases. Specifically, it is shown that the average power usage per sensor and the total average power drop as O(1/N/sup 2/) and O(1/N), respectively.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125488568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach exploits long-term spatial selectivity of the user channels to decide between different diversity and multiplexing modes. We investigate the performance of this adaptive transmission method with different scheduling polices (both sensitive to user queue sizes and independent of user queue sizes). While the methods outlined in this paper are general, we present our results in the context of a broadcast channel with four transmit antennas at the central transmitter, and four antennas at each receiver. Our results indicate a gain of approximately 20% in average system throughput with the proposed algorithm over realistic channel models.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127200606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method relies on the existence of modern turbo-like codes (TLCs) with a high degree of rate flexibility. The algorithm is a constant power WF algorithm with the active sub-channels and associated modulations selected based on the performance limits of the available TLC and modulation formats. A single TLC block is used over all sub-channels with rate imposed by the modulation assignments and the total capacity limits of the channel. Simulation results demonstrate that this approach can yield performance within approximately 3-5 dB of the ideal WF capacity for Rayleigh channel gains.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131772553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider cooperation among M nodes, where each node achieves space diversity by using other nodes' antennas as relays. Cooperation among nodes has been shown to achieve impressive bit error rate (BER) gains as compared to a non-cooperative system while maintaining the same information rate, transmit power, and bandwidth [ A. Sendonaris et al. (2003), J. N. Laneman et al. (2004), T. E. Hunter et al.]. Firstly, this paper formulates an optimum, centralised power allocation scheme appropriate for a cooperative network that employs transparent relaying. It will be shown that the proposed allocation scheme significantly outperforms the equal power allocation scheme, e.g., by up to 5 dB for a 3-user case at a bit error rate of 10/sup -3/. Secondly, this paper proposes a distributed power allocation scheme where each node independently calculates its power allocation factors, and it will be shown that it converges to the optimum allocation yielded by the centralised approach. Finally, this paper presents a distributed power allocation algorithm to optimise the BER performance of cooperative networks only with partial knowledge of the channel state information (CSI) of the non-adjacent nodes.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134330785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach also enables to compute the non-data-aided (NDA) bound, i.e. the CRB when the receiver only knows the symbol constellation. We explore various scenarios, including the case of a deterministic channel and the case of a random channel. Numerical evaluations of the CRB-based bounds are presented for different channels. In particular, the influence of the symbol-constellation size is highlighted. Finally, the performance of an estimator based on the expectation-maximization algorithm is shown to be very close to the proposed bounds.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133256661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The combination with Alamouti code is studied and two different approaches are compared. As the interferences are mainly generated by the channel variance on the pilot sequence, we demonstrate the advantages of a chip mapping optimization. The performances evaluated over a realistic MIMO channel show the efficiency of this novel scheme which appears to be a promising channel estimation for the uplink of the future wideband wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132881405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the simulation model for high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) in UMTS is described. The downlink physical layer for the user data on the HS-PDSCH is modelled in detail, whereas the associated signalling is idealised as error-free. The interference from signalling and data channels on the HS-PDSCH is modelled adequately. As a general guideline for system settings in the simulations, we use the test cases specified in 3GPP TS 25.101 whenever applicable. Cancelling the SCH interference at the mobile side leads to an improvement of approx. 1 dB on an additive white Gaussian noise channel. Therefore, it is worthwhile to implement interference cancellation (IC) for the SCH and CPICH in future mobile receivers for HSDPA.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115414061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
