The underlying theoretical concerns are drawn from the books by Sandra M Gilbert, Susan Gubar (2000) and Lois Tyson (2006). The methodology adopted is the descriptive qualitative approach using textual lines from the novel representing the images of women as good or bad. The results drawn shows that the women of patriarchal society are judged and measured on the scales of either angels or monsters in the house and thus are treated according to their roles. A future possible research could be to study why women adopt such self-negating attitudes as opposed to asserting agency.","PeriodicalId":271931,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Journal of Gender Studies","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114579849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The thematic working areas of these organizations were aimed to gauge the status of women in the region to see how coherent and impactful the women’s movement is to achieve its goals in the presence and pressure of government and donor policies. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 27 participants working in Peshawar-based women/feminist NGOs using the purposive sampling technique. Herbert Blummer's theoretical model of stages of social movements was used to validate the findings. The study findings revealed that the contemporary women's rights movement in the region of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is diverse, fragmented and its existence is dependent on the efforts made by individuals and organizations. Furthermore, the women's rights struggle has been NGOized because NGOs are donors dependent for their activities, and volunteerism became a rare virtue as feminism is commercialized and carried out mostly for social media stories and for attacking more funding for the NGOs. Street activism which used to be the backbone of the Pakistani women’s movement has now changed into paid activism. In short, the definition of the contemporary women's rights movement is different from the water-tight definition discussed in the textbooks. It is rudimentary that may potentially be evolved into a vibrant and organized movement subject to favorable circumstances.","PeriodicalId":271931,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Journal of Gender Studies","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134295793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stories based on marital affairs and physical abuse are popular content in a majority of the Pakistani Urdu TV dramas. These dramas have gained high ratings and have become a part of daily discussions in many homes in our society. Fantasized lives, illicit independency, and unwise behaviour depicted in Visual Television Contents can change its audience’s perception of the world completely. People start doubting their relationships with their significant others on a subconscious level. This depiction also sets precedent for distrust in the minds of children as well. In this paper, researchers argue that repeated television exposure increases favourable attitudes to separation between married couples. Through a qualitative content analysis, 29 male and female characters are studied from three popular Pakistani Urdu dramas telecast during 2019-2020 to explore the factors behind the clashes of the married couples portrayed in Pakistani Urdu TV dramas. The study also analyses the tragedies in domestic stories of dramas that represent the vulnerability of the married couple’s relationship.","PeriodicalId":271931,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Journal of Gender Studies","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115815456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It relies a lot on specific and detailed data on a data set consisting of most Pakistani university students in national and private institutions. A questionnaire was created with specific attributes in mind as the critical input; these were given significant consideration in selecting and compiling the data. As discussed by the data group, the social variety in Pakistani cultures, such as the inclusion of two different educational institutions, must be regarded as a variable in this research. For most people, daily exposure to Gender-Stereotyping in traditional media has adverse effects on how they perceive social identities, most notably women.","PeriodicalId":271931,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Journal of Gender Studies","volume":"71 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113989009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Old age brings variety of problems for both males and females, however, the nature of the problems of elderly men and women are different. This paper compares and analyses the problems faced by elderly men and women. This research study has been conducted in the semi urban town of Timergara, the head quarter of District Dir Lower, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Data was collected from the respondents aged 60 years and above through in-depth interviews. The respondents were selected using convenient sampling technique. The study finds that because of gender discrimination and cultural factors, women have lower access to health services than men. Consequently health problems of elderly women are more severe than the health problems of elderly men. The study further finds that women at old age are poorer than men due to cultural restrictions on education, women employment, deprivation from property inheritance. Lack of old age pension and widowhood also plays role in poverty of elderly women.","PeriodicalId":271931,"journal":{"name":"Pakistan Journal of Gender Studies","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133687294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
