It is composed of herbaceous and shrubby vegetation and shallow soils that promote local water infiltration and recharge. Occurring on top of hills, the HAF are isolated units in the landscape, connecting with the matrix through associated ecosystems (springs with riparian forests and “capões de mata”, which are natural islands of arboreal vegetation, commonly associated with rural vegetation, such as high-altitude fields, located above 1,200 m in phytogeographic domains of the Atlantic Forest, Cerrado or Caatinga). These areas have great species endemism, and studies concerning the order Odonata are still scarce. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the ecological responses (richness, diversity, specificity) of adult odonates in these ecosystems. The study was conducted from November 2020 to March 2021 in three areas in the Poços de Caldas Plateau, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. A total of 45 species (247 specimens) were collected, with the highest total richness being recorded for Anisoptera. Among the sampled areas, there was no difference in Anisoptera communities, but there was a difference in Zygoptera species composition. In general, the most preserved remnant of HAF, the greater it presents greater richness of Odonata and harbors a regional pool of species.","PeriodicalId":271236,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA","volume":"97 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139145679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to explore the diversity of ectoparasite species found on bats in northeastern Argentina and analyze their taxonomic features, hosts, and distribution. Bats were collected from the Molossidae, Pyllostomidae and Vespertilionidae families along with ectoparasites from the Streblidae, Nycteribiidae (Diptera), Polyctenidae (Hemiptera) and Ischnopsyllidae (Siphonaptera) families. Aspidoptera falcata Wenzel, 1976, Megistopoda theodori Wenzel, 1966, Hesperoctenes eumops Ferris & Usinger, 1939 and Hespercotenes fumarius Westwood, 1874 were added to the ectoparasite fauna for the province of Corrientes, increasing the number of species and their geographic distribution. A rarely studied stage of a larva about to emerge from the posterior end of Basilia carteri Scott, 1936 (Nycteribiidae) was recorded. Additionally, 13 parasitological associations were made for the Esteros del Iberá, four of which are new for the province of Corrientes: B. carteri with Myotis riparius Handley, 1960, H. fumarius and H. giganteus Ronderos, 1959 with Molossus rufus É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1806 and Myodopsylla wolffsohni wolffsohni Rothschild, 1903 with M. riparius Handley, 1960; the latter being also new for Argentina. Therefore, new recordings of orchid bees at higher altitudes are interesting. Here we report the presence of two species of orchid bees in urban and peri-urban environments within the inter-Andean valleys in the province of Azuay in southern Ecuador at more than 2,200 m. One male of Eulaema (Apeulaema) polychroma (Mocsáry, 1899) and a female of Euglossa (Euglossa) cf. charapensis Cockerell, 1917, were recorded in the city of Cuenca at 2,550 m, and several females of Eg. (Eg.) cf. charapensis in the surroundings of the city of Gualaceo at 2,264 m. These new altitude distribution records represent the highest for the genus Euglossa in Ecuador. Also, they show the great altitude dispersal capacity, and high adaptability of these insects to urban and peri-urban environments. Finally, we proposed the Jubones river basin as a potential migration route of these bees from lowland areas in the western foothills of the Andes to the inter Anden valleys of Cuenca and Gualaceo.","PeriodicalId":271236,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139201622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Este sistema productivo se ve afectado por factores bióticos y abióticos, destacándose plagas de insectos como el gusano blanco Premnotrypes vorax (Hustache, 1933) que afectan la calidad del tubérculo. En este sentido es importante la generación de estrategias de manejo sostenibles para estas limitantes. Se destaca que los cultivos barrera pueden obstaculizar el paso de los adultos de P. vorax a los cultivos de papa, siendo importante evaluar cultivos con este potencial. Para esto se estableció un experimento en Mosquera, Cundinamarca (Colombia), que consistió en liberar adultos de gusano blanco en estructuras de evaluación del desplazamiento de los individuos en cultivos de avena Avena sativa Linnaeus, 1753 y cilantro Coriandrum sativum Linnaeus, 1753. Usando modelos de regresión para datos de conteo (poisson, binomial negativo y cero inflado), se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p < 0,05) de la implementación de los cultivos de avena y cilantro como barreras naturales para reducir la entrada de adultos de P. vorax.","PeriodicalId":271236,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA","volume":"33 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139206213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, it is known that anthropic environments (e.g., street markets) with high human circulation and food supply can directly influence the composition and structure of muscoid dipterans assemblages. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of street markets on the composition and structure of assemblages of flies with sanitary importance in an urban environment of Toritama city, Pernambuco state, Brazil. The flies were captured using adhesive mousetrap “Cola Rato” before and after the occurrence of free markets. A total of 7,780 specimens belonging to six families and 14 species were collected. Muscidae was the most representative and diverse family, with 96.98% of all flies captured and four species. We observed that the assemblages were more abundant after the occurrence of the street markets (H = 6.56; df = 1; P < 0.01). Regarding the composition of the assemblies, 50% of the species were common to both treatments, with emphasis on the dominant species Musca domestica and Megaselia scalaris. This study reveals that free markets can modulate the structure and composition of flies’ assemblages in urban environments, including being able to offer health risks, considering that species of medical importance are related to this environment.","PeriodicalId":271236,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA","volume":"61 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139196538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bees are the main biological agents for carrying out this service. It is known that the excessive simplification process of the landscape through anthropic action hinders the establishment of more sensitive species and favors generalist, exotic and invasive species. Thus, urbanization is a process that threatens native species. Thus, it is essential to understand the impact of this relationship, since it can foster tools that make cities more pleasant environments for pollinators. The aim of this study was to record the predation of a eusocial stingless bee species by an invasive exotic spider. Understanding this relationship is important from an environmental and economic point of view, since the preyed species is a potential pollinator of agricultural crops, and its rational breeding is widespread in Brazil.","PeriodicalId":271236,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139308097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
