Now-a-days, lots of companies rely on user reviews for launching their product. These reviews play an important role or companies to know how their product has been accepted in the market. But, today, thousands of reviews are generated for a product. Companies have to process each of these reviews to get user opinion as well as ideas, which is a very tedious and time-consuming. This paper discourses about extracting opinions from the user reviews is semi-automatic, in the sense that it requires some amount of expert assistance. Expert assistance is required for building the domain knowledge for the system, so as to make the system learn about the domain specific words]. The proposed system, using domain knowledge, identifies and extracts the opinions for a given product. These extracted opinions include the opinion words, their polarity in from of weights and for which feature these opinions was provided and system aggregates the extracted opinions them for better display.","PeriodicalId":270099,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Technologies for Sustainable Development (ICTSD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115752833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Out of the many factors, vegetation is the most important parameter in vegetative channels. Vegetation in an open channel retards the water flow by causing energy loss through turbulence and by exerting additional drag forces on the moving liquid. Presence of vegetation in a channel modify the velocity profiles, and hence the resistance in terms of roughness coefficients. The roughness coefficients of such channels change with the flow depths and from sections to sections. Because of this complex nature, it is hard to develop a flow model based on theoretical calculations and derivations. A laboratory study to explore the effect of vegetation in terms of rigid cylindrical roughness on the behaviors of Manning's roughness coefficient n, Chezy's coefficient C and Darcy-Weisbach's friction factor f in an open channel is presented. The study consists of flume experiments for flows with unsubmerged rigid cylindrical stems of a concentration and diameter arranged in a regular staggered configuration. The usual practice in 1D analysis is to select a value of n depending on the channel surface roughness and take it as uniform for the entire surface for all depths of flow. The influences of all the parameters are assumed to be lumped into a single value of n, C and f. Researches have shown that the coefficients not only denote the roughness characteristics of a channel but also the energy loss in the flow. The larger the value of n, the higher is the loss of energy within the flow Different roughness coefficients are found to vary differently with the non-dimensional hydraulic, geometric and surface parameters. Behaviours of different resistance coefficients due to vegetation are discussed and results are summarized and presented. Graphs of aspect ratio vs. n, C and f respectively are presented.","PeriodicalId":270099,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Technologies for Sustainable Development (ICTSD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133449387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are bound to produce the same in low cost, shorter delivery time and without detriment to quality. To mitigate these, industries are segregating and/or designing different products and processes involved in manufacturing processes to shorten lead time along-with their respective operations. Long changeovers reduce operational flexibility and make process less responsive to changes which may directly affect production as well as profit. This research is giving more emphasis on reducing non value added activities by implementing new designed method on production processes based on SMED technique. Successful implementation of this research and quick changeover is the key to a competitive advantage to any kind of industry.","PeriodicalId":270099,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Technologies for Sustainable Development (ICTSD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128814371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we report on the properties of a novel water dispersible, sprayable biodegradable polymer membrane and results of preliminary pot and field trials using this membrane to minimise soil evaporation. The polymer emulsion contains 40 wt% solid content with particle sizes in the 100-500 micron range and its viscosity is 400±70 mPa.s; it is stable at ambient temperature and can be sprayed using standard farm equipment. The small scale pot trial indicated a 10-50% reduction in soil evaporation across a number of different soils. The field trial, on a Hanwood loam soil showed that the polymer membrane treatment maintained approximately the same crop yield compared to the control, but used 28% less irrigation water. Water use productivity was 0.34 to 0.46 kg/100 L higher in the polymer treatment than in the control treatments, representing a 20-30% increase in water productivity. Refinement of the polymer membrane together with further field testing is ongoing.","PeriodicalId":270099,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Technologies for Sustainable Development (ICTSD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117313006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional methods for fabricating microcantilevers are centred either etching in glass and silicon or using lithography. The major problem is that the traditional method to fabricate microcantilevers are not only expensive but also time consuming. It needs infrastructure and well monitored clean room environment which demands large initial investment. This paper describes an economical method of sequential micro-milling and micro-moulding process. In this method replica of micro-cantilever beam is made on a Brass substrate using micromilling method and then micro-cantilever is produced by using PDMS as moulding material followed by micro-moulding process.","PeriodicalId":270099,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Technologies for Sustainable Development (ICTSD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126075631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the present method of soil compaction measurement is not ergonomically good practice by hand-held penetrometers either by static or dynamic. In India, the compaction data are taken by hand operated penetrometers generally which has certain limitations and more chance of error as manually operated penetrometers with dial gauge or digital display type penetrometers. However, some of the developed countries are using automatic multi-probe type sensor for collecting data for soil penetration resistance. Due to the limitations in hand held penetrometers, a tractor operated sensor based soil compaction measurement device has been developed which will increases the volume of data for a particular area and reduce human factor of error and upgrade the quality of measurement used by Indian scientific community for agricultural soil compaction so that scientists can correlate the crop parameters to be grown and this data can be used in agricultural machine design with different crop parameters and hence, recommendations for a particular machinery for a particular area or crop can be generated. Soil compactness and soil moisture content maps will give a colour coded maps of an area/particular region so that specific crop or the area needs attention on priority basis.","PeriodicalId":270099,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Technologies for Sustainable Development (ICTSD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126892337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Water extraction, treatment, transport and distribution all requires energy and very few studies consider the aspects of water-energy nexus. This research compared three innovative solar-based treatment systems and assessed their effectiveness through a multi-criteria decision analysis method based on three sustainability pillars. The solar powered vacuum membrane distillation (SVMD) system became the most sustainable technology option. Vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) is an emerging technology for water treatment which comprises of evaporation and condensation processes that mimic the natural water cycle A lab scale VMD treatment system was set up to demonstrate the response of the permeate flux rate to the various operating parameters. The permeate flux rate achieved were between 0.27 to 6.44 L/m2.h. Also, variation of these parameters was investigated in terms of energy consumption to determine an efficient combination of operating parameters. Optimum operating parameters were 7 kPa pressure, 65 C temperature and 1 L/min flow rate. The water quality tests performed for four brackish water samples showed that VMD process remove 99.9 % TDS. An innovative SVMD unit was designed, assembled and tested over a two month period. It was found that the SVMD system performance is remarkably influenced by the amount of energy transported to the feed water. Daily variation of the permeate flux was the result of changes in feed-water temperature that was affected by solar irradiance, ambient temperature and wind speed.","PeriodicalId":270099,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Technologies for Sustainable Development (ICTSD)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129675150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
