Owing to this usability issues, many avoid using device locks potentially compromising the security. To overcome the limitations of this binary approach, we present an implicit authentication framework called PRISM (Policy-driven Risk-based Implicit locking for improving the Security of Mobile end-user devices). It provides risk based authentication by detecting anomalies in the usual behavior patterns of the users which include their expected locations, activities and application usage. Its device unlocking decisions are driven by policies that are defined either automatically by mining sensor data or manually by the end-users. Our experiments show that PRISM is able to discover useful behavior patterns efficiently even with limited data. The number of required explicit authentications is significantly reduced while assuring the preferred security for everyday scenarios.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133243059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular running applications received increasing attention in research in recent years. In this paper, we analyze fourteen commercial running tracking applications concerning their functionalities to identify which motivation strategies are supported and also to identify possible directions for future research. For this purpose we concentrate on the three most popular motivation strategies that are usually used for sport and fitness applications: music and audio feedback, visualization, as well as competition and comparison with others.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122835582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different reactive protocols for MANETs, in which routes are established only when needed, provide different network topology awareness (NTA) to each host, depending on their algorithmic features. NACK-based AODV (N-AODV) is a variant of the well-known Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) reactive protocol for MANETs we proposed with the aim of improving NTA of the original protocol. In this paper, a performance comparison between AODV and N-AODV is conducted in order to investigate whether N-AODV effectively improves NTA with respect to AODV, and how this improvement affects both its effectiveness and efficiency. The experiment is executed within a simulation environment. The obtained results show that a MANET adopting N-AODV exploits higher NTA than a MANET adopting AODV. Moreover, the improved awareness impacts effectiveness and efficiency of routing activities because, in the long-run, it results in a lower need to activate the route discovery process for establishing new communications sessions.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123163697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Incorporating fictionality makes us use more persuasive expressions to change the meaning of the real space. However, there are a few discussions about strategies to enhance the meaning of the real space. In this paper, we analyze two case studies that aim to augment the real space. The case studies use a head mounted display to show the real space by capturing it through a camera, but the space is augmented from the true real space. Our focus, in particular, is criticizing how one can feel a sense of reality in the enhanced real space in these case studies because the persuasiveness of the enhanced real space is lost if a user does not feel a sense of reality. We extract effective insights and potential pitfalls from the analyses of the experiences of the researchers who developed and evaluated the case studies.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"254 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114169993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New advertisement and publication mechanisms developed a totally new way of communicating with customers more often and in a much more personalized way. This paper describes a design approach for the development and implementation of a tool which can be used by the hotel business as well as by other end-user oriented businesses. It helps to keep close contact with customers by using a technology almost everyone uses nowadays -- the smart phone. To accomplish the above mentioned requirements we propose the design and implementation of a content management system (CMS) rendering mobile apps for different platforms: Android, iOS and in mobile website mode. After the roll out of the resulting product and a testing phase with two customers it is apparent that the utilization of mobile marketing mechanisms really increases the brand touch points by an average of 17% and has a high acceptance rate by customers of all ages, genders and social environments.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"7 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114022918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the signal characteristics of BLE also reveal deterministic behavior at very close proximity between sender and receiver with significant higher signal strengths compared to distant placements, which potentially qualifies BLE as a substitute technology for Near Field Communication (NFC). This paper investigates the signal strength behavior of BLE at short distances and points out potential benefits and application areas for a transmission technology simultaneously operating at both near and mid distances.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"406 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132086419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multimedia sensors such as cameras and microphones require significant memory and bandwidth. Typically, multimedia content results in bursty traffic. It is shown in the literature that the bursty traffic degrades the performance of the network. Hence, the regulation of bursty transmission is important for achieving high reliability. In this paper, we propose Dawn, a dependable networking framework for time-synchronised IoT platforms, which uses application meta-data to derive bandwidth requirements and uses this information to optimally allocate bandwidth for the network. Dawn regulates the transmission of bursty traffic generated by multimedia sensors, while performing admission control for dynamically added sensors. Dawn guarantees end-to-end reliability for heterogenous IoT applications with minimal energy consumption. Our preliminary evaluation results show that dawn is dependable and provides 100% reliability for dynamic multimedia-enabled IoT applications while increasing the network lifetime by up to 4 years.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130483823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The target of the developments is a game or game series where image processing is used for geometric concepts learning. The learner has to match the concepts presented in the game challenges with its real world representations. Ubiquitous and pervasive computational devices become flexible tools that shape the learning experience as users engage in challenging, experiential activities with immediate feedback. The game concept was developed for mobile devices with an image processing library optimized for real time performance in interactive systems. The library and game features were tested at a school with children with very encouraging results.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130283518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Having a complete and accurate map of both accessible paths and barriers could support people mobility and could drive urban planning renewing efforts. However, mapping accessible paths and barriers timely, and in an accurate way, requires a significant effort and it is often left to volunteers and no-profit associations. The Maps for Easy Paths (MEP) project represents an attempt to build accessibility maps (i.e., maps with accessible routes) fusing, in an automatic fashion, data implicitly collected through mobile devices carried by interested people when they move around the city. In particular, the paper focuses on the design of the MEP-Traces app used for the collection of relevant data and the MEP-Fusion engine for the reconstruction of accessible routes out of inertial readings and GPS measurements. Experimental results in reconstructing accessible routes in urban scenarios show the effectiveness of the approach in dealing with typical problems related to poor inertial sensors quality.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129877142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VQM is, however, not viable in real-time deployments such as mobile streaming, not only due to its high computational demands but, specifically, because it is a Full-Reference (FR) metric, which requires as input both the original video and its impaired counterpart. On the other hand, No-Reference (NR) objective algorithms operate directly on the impaired video and are considerably faster, but loose out when it comes to accuracy. In this research, we assess a range of NR metrics, alongside a lightweight FR metric, using VQM as benchmark. Our study covers a range of methods, a diverse set of video types and encoding conditions, and a range of network impairment test-cases. We show the extent by which packet loss affects different video types, correlating the accuracy of NR metrics to the FR benchmark. Our study helps identifying the conditions under which simple metrics may be used effectively and indicates an avenue to control the quality of streaming systems in line with human perception.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134066009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
