Connected smart handheld devices enable virtual mobility exchanges among learners independently of their physical location to facilitate teaching process anywhere and at anytime. Furthermore, these new mobile multimedia technologies supported education provide opportunities for interaction that allow extension to smart spaces beyond classical classroom. This paper, part of our research project presents a generic architecture of mobile collaborative learning platform in virtual mobility context. It describes a model of an innovative workspace allowing interactions among physical and virtual students based on active pedagogy. The functionality of this hybrid model will be exposed to achieve the usefulness and the efficiency of the system focusing on interactive multimedia system.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124453636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To compensate for high intra-class variation and inter-class similarity, this paper addresses two challenging issues in partial fingerprint recognition which are alignment and computing the similarity score. Rotational and displacement variation between registered and query fingerprints occur during scanning. As a consequence, fingerprint alignment is essential to correct for the rotational and translation difference between fingerprints prior to matching. By perfectly aligning the fingerprints, the matching could be simplified. Considering the possibility of high intra-class variation and inter-class similarity, how the similarity score of two fingerprints is computed plays an important role in system's match or non-match decision.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134106852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, pollution sensing is gaining more relevance. In order to have a strict control over air quality, the use of mobile sensors is becoming a promising alternative to traditional air quality stations. Mobile sensors allow to easily perform measurements in many different places, thereby offering substantial improvements in terms of the spatial granularity of the data gathered. Pollution monitoring near large industrial areas or in rural areas where transportation facilities are poor or inexistent can complicate the mobile sensing approach. To address this problem, in this paper we propose endowing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with pollution sensors, allowing them to become autonomous air monitoring stations. The proposed solution has the potential to quickly cover a target region at a low cost, and providing great flexibility.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131785286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the advancement in the Internet technology, people can watch an entire 2-hours long movie. However, people sometimes want to skip to different sections of a video to see whether the whole video is of their interest. Doing so usually requires the video to restart buffering and causes delay. To alleviate this issue, this research proposes a parallel streaming method based on the modification of the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) technique. By splitting video into smaller segments and modifying the segment scheduling, we can stream a video at many different positions in parallel so that users can jump to the different sections with minimal delay. The performance evaluation of the proposed technique shows that such streaming is possible through video segment scheduling with higher throughput in exchange for higher bandwidth requirement and utilization.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132595424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, in the field of music information science, studies on music classification have been conducted. However, most of these studies have classified music on the basis of melody and tempo. No classification method that is based on lyrics has been proposed for music therapy and the provision of mental support. Lyrics are an important element of music in addition to melody and tempo. Therefore we propose a music classification method based on lyrics. In this study, we conducted the emotion weighting of non-emotional words by using similarity in order to improve the previously proposed method that uses only emotional words. We realized emotion extraction from the entire lyrics by using non-emotional words in the proposed method. Further, we showed that a relatively high classification precision is obtained when compared with the conventional method.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"144 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133640255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to respond appropriately to the high and still increasing demands of consumers, traders make use of mobile applications in many industries. In addition, as far as the trade of textiles is concerned, vendors use mobile shopping applications to increase their market opportunities and competitiveness. In this context, the authors formulate eight hypotheses and set up a research model for further analysis concerning consumer acceptance of mobile shopping, by using the textile goods market in Austria as an example.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123970898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the iterative re-clustering process, extra energy and time are consumed especially at the setup phase of every round. To address these issues, we propose a new cluster-based protocol namely, Dynamic Load-balancing Cluster Based Protocol (DLCP). Our protocol introduces a new inter-cluster approach to increase the network lifetime, rotates continuously the election of the Cluster Head (CH) in each cluster, and selects the node with the highest residual energy in each round. When the energy of CHs falls below a fixed threshold (TCH), a new clustering process is created. Extensive simulation experiments show that our proposed approach balances effectively the energy consumption among all sensor nodes and increases the network lifetime compared to other clustering protocols.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130327233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many algorithms have been proposed for this task. One of such algorithms is the K-nearest neighbour (KNN) algorithm. However, since KNN is an instance based algorithm its use in mobile activity recognition has been limited to offline evaluation on collected data. This is because for KNN to work well all the training instances must be kept in memory for similarity measurement with the test instance. This is however prohibitive for mobile environment. Therefore, we propose an unsupervised learning step that reduces the training set to a proportional size of the original dataset. The novel approach applies clustering to the dataset to obtain a set of micro clusters from which cluster characteristics are extracted for similarity measurement with new unseen data. These reduced representative sets can be used for classifying new instances using the nearest neighbour algorithm step on the mobile phone. Experimental evaluation of our proposed approach using real mobile activity recognition dataset shows improved result over the basic KNN algorithm.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121033057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Still mobile applications remain the key means by which users share sensitive personal information. It is unclear if users just do not care, if they are missing the appropriate tools or user interfaces, or if they live in the delusion of being in control of their data. We argue that non-user-friendly design presents a key obstacle in making privacy controls work: it hinders users to effectively set up and maintain privacy settings. Our ultimate goal is to support the user by automatically suggesting access control lists based on an analysis of her communication metadata. To guide us in the design of such privacy suggestions, we perform an explorative questionnaire-based study with 42 participants. Our results confirm that users are overtaxed with existing schemes. We identify the expectations and preferences of users, thus facilitating the design of improved solutions.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127190305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, because viewers can see all of the images projected on a screen at a given time, the presenter is not able to present only a portion of the projected information. In other words, the viewers cannot look at a part of the projected information selectively: they must see it all, including that which they do not want to see. To overcome this limitation, we propose a presentation system using a multi-tiled screen. The screen is divided into 3x3 multiple rotatable panels and by rotating the surface of the projection, the presenter can select which information the viewers can see. We implemented a prototype system and confirmed that the presenter can conceal a part of the projected information from viewers who cannot see the projection surface of certain panels.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121674252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
