The algorithm is an adaptive version of the Command Generator Tracking (CGT) control technique. This technique forces a dynamic system to follow a reduced-order model, allowing it to cope with the problem of unmodeled dynamics. The studies were made via simulation, using for the plant an aircraft dynamic model similar to the Bl bomber. This model is of a large aircraft with a reasonable amount of structural flexibility. In particular, flight configurations were analyzed where the influence of the flexible modes make it difficult to control the aircraft. The results indicate that the algorithm has good robustness properties vis-a-vis unmodeled dynamics and can force the flexible aircraft to follow rigid body responses.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126333449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A major advantage of the algorithm lies in its ability to track time-delay variations over a practically unlimited range. The technique is based on approximation of time delay in the frequency domain by a rational transfer function, construction of the derivatives of process input and output using multiple fil1ters, and estimation using a model nonlinear in the desired parameters. In spite of this inherent nonlinearity with respect to the sought parameters, the estimation scheme has a unique solution, in general.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126376994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This novel estimation procedure for the MWD rather than the moments of the distribution is made possible by explicitly accounting for the chain length. The on-line implementation of the model and its ability to predict MWD from simple polymer reactor measurements (temperature, conversion and viscosity) are discussed. Finally, optimal temperature trajectories are predicted for specific MWD criteria.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125786039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Development of a feedback control law that leads to a desired closed-loop configuration is a prohibitive task computationally, especially for large-order systems. Existing pole allocation algorithms can handle only low-order models. In this paper, matrix perturbation theory is used to provide an estimate of the system eigensolution, which is consequently used to analyze and design the closed-loop controller. The accuracy of the control (or observer) design depends on how small a perturbation the controls (or observer gains) are on the uncontrolled system, and it is assessed qualitatively by considering Gerschgorin's disks and the system eigensolution.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129849952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To initialize this process for classical proportional navigation systems with parasitic feedback, we have developed algebraic equations that embody certain elements of synthesis and analytical design (1]. The canonic model is a seventh order system with radome aberration and imperfect seeker body motion isolation. The design equations yield fifteen parameters that describe the model, the miss budget as a function ofradome aberration, and the stochastic commanded acceleration and control surface rate due to range independent noise. Other indicators provided to guide the design include the rate loop gin and the low frequency phase margin ofthe autopilot. The effects of radome have been discussed by Peterson [21 Garnell [31 and Nesline and Zarchan [41, with emphasis on stability and performance analysis of canonic models such as biquadratic 12A and five equal time constants [41 Imperfect body motion isolation has been analyzed by Neshne and Zarchan [5]. In this paper, only the controller architecture is regarded as canonic; the distribution of the dynamics can vary over a considerable range. The dynamic representation of a homing controller can be considered as a point in multidimensional space that is converted to a zone by the effect of parasitic feedback. This zone in dynamic space has its counterpart in performance space, and it is this zone which is constrained and normalized. Then an equivalent constrained normalized zone in dynamics space is defined. Finally, the process ends with the means of getting from the point at the center of the normalized dynamics zone to a desired, but constrained, point in dynamics space. In the approach taken here, a set ofnormalized miss distance adjoints is defined for a normalized parasitic zone. All systems to be considered are scaled to pass through the points corresponding to these adjoints. The techniques for adjusting the system dynamics are order reduction by truncation, biasing, and scaling. The order of the system is expanded to provide modeling detail within the constraints imposed by the reduced order synthesis. The elements of these equations were assembled over more than a decade. The first steps involved the precomputation of a large number of normalized cubic adjoints, which were stored for use in the rapid analysis of guidance systems with parasitic feedback. Later the advent of the programmable calculator motivated the reduction ofthe number ofstored adjoints and resulted in a very simplified analysis program. The final phase of algorithm development, that of synthesis and order expansion, coincided with the appearance of the personal computer as an engineering tool.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129232691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The expert planner incorporates the knowledge of a control system designer in selecting and applying mathematical algorithms from several branches of control theory such as Kalman filter design, proportional/integral/ derivative control, and optimal state feedback. The framework has been developed directly in Lisp rather than using any of the available domain-independent expert system frameworks. The planning is done at two levels: a high level that uses general rules about control system design and a low level that uses rules about the use of a computer aided control system design (CACSD) package. The system has been implemented and demonstrated on a Xerox 1100 Lisp workstation controlling a CACSD package running on a VAX 11/780, designing a servo (command tracking) control system for aircraft.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124648462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system is a semi-automatic transmission, having a conventional gear train with manual shift lever and the directly controlled pneumatic clutch. In the clutch, the clamping load is proportional to supplied air pressure controlled through an electro-pneumatic proportional valve(EPPV) independent from the wear of clutch facing. To control the valve an electronic control unit is composed of a microcomputer and power amplifier with pulse width modulated (PWM) signals. The most suitable signals are computed considering the engine rotational speed, vehicle speed, gear position and the accelerator pedal stroke. This system is applied to a bus with diesel engine, and we have obtained very smooth feeling at the vehicle starting and gear change in the tests of various road and acceleration conditions.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128724293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of the required controllers is that the plant zero polynomial is not identically zero and is stable. The required controllers are realized by parallel combination of a proportional-multiple-derivative term and a dynamic term, where the order of the dynamic term does not exceed the number of plant transmission zeros. The control scheme proposed in the paper is composed of a stabilizing feedback controller to enhance system stability, a feedforward controller to achieve disturbance decoupling and a cascade controller to ensure command matching. The three controllers have no effect on each other and can therefore be designed independently. A numerical example is given for illustration.","PeriodicalId":266163,"journal":{"name":"1986 American Control Conference","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128847578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
