Our approach is based on the use of the Integer Fourier-Motzkin Elimination (IFME) method. The fault diagnosis problem is solved by first creating an initial set of inequalities from the state equation of a Petri net. The occurrence or absence of faults can also be expressed by inequalities. After adding these inequalities to the initial set, we apply the IFME method to eliminate the variables corresponding to unobservable transitions. The resulting set of inequalities is used for the purpose of diagnosis. We prove the correctness of our approach for both bounded and unbounded Petri nets with no cycles of unobservable transitions.","PeriodicalId":266112,"journal":{"name":"2018 UKACC 12th International Conference on Control (CONTROL)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115352799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The challenging issue of effectively controlling the power transmission from WTs to the ac grid is considered in this paper. Since long distance lines may be necessary for this connection, the stiffness of the ac grid becomes an essential parameter which is taken into account for the system and control performance. A comprehensive review of the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)-based WT system integration via ac or dc transmission is considered and examined in view of a novel, generic, cascaded type control scheme. As expected and shown by extensive simulations, especially for the case of weak ac grids, the controlled de connected WT system response is superior to that of the direct ac connection. Also, in all cases the dc link connection provides an effective and independent power or voltage regulation caused from the fact of relaxing the DFIG operation from other control tasks related to the ac grid characteristics.","PeriodicalId":266112,"journal":{"name":"2018 UKACC 12th International Conference on Control (CONTROL)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122878088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their operation can be a key determinant of health or disease. Whilst the existence and importance of switches is widely acknowledged within the biological literature, many life scientists do not deal explicitly with the switching behaviour. Frequently, steady-state behaviour before and after switching is the primary focus. Here methods for analysis of switched systems from control engineering are applied to the modelling and analysis of a riboswitch. The model has been developed by studying the dynamics of the vitamin B12 riboswitch. The simulation results have been validated using in vivo experiments by checking the bacterial growth when using Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica where the action of the vitamin B12 riboswitch is known to be a determinant of system behaviour. The paper first describes a simple model for the $B$12-riboswitch regulatory network in E. coli and applies the same analysis when changing the strain to S. enterica. Validation of the simulation results has been undertaken by linking the dynamics of the riboswitch to bacterial growth.","PeriodicalId":266112,"journal":{"name":"2018 UKACC 12th International Conference on Control (CONTROL)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123329824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two supervisory strategies are proposed for on-line adjustment of the control gains of vaccination, treatment and corpses removal actions. The cost functions eventually include weighted infection and vaccination treatment penalties and have a high definition freedom for the designer. To achieve this, e-Horizon information is utilized to further improve the energy management strategy. Provided that the end destination is known, road information for the entire route becomes available at the beginning of the journey. The proposed technology consists of three main parts: future speed prediction with Markov chain algorithm, dynamic programming optimization and an adaptive control. The usage of long-term and short-term prediction and optimization is introduced to mitigate the uncertainties of realworld driving. This process is handled by the arbitration of the control, which coordinates short-, long-term and the existing rule-based strategies. The complete solution has been developed applying the V-model, starting from concept to implementation and to test. Testing has been conducted to assess fuel consumption and emission improvements compared to a predefined rule-based control. With customer payback analysis, target customer and driving condition are defined and a potential 4 - 40% running cost-benefit is identified.","PeriodicalId":266112,"journal":{"name":"2018 UKACC 12th International Conference on Control (CONTROL)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127530595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a design of an IoT (Internet of Things) based interactive system which combines non-invasive sensors and data acquisition apparatus, robust communication networks, clouds-based databases and web servers to achieve real-time monitoring of energy usage in industries. The collected energy consumption data are published to the data centre automatically through the wireless communication network using the MQTT protocol, while a web server driven by Apache is developed to provide a human-data interaction dashboard in B/S (Browser $I$ Server) structure. The system can not only assist industrial energy management but also provide a platform to improve energy-saving, emission reduction, along with other potentials. The system has been implemented in a local bakery company, confirming its applicability for remote real-time monitoring of energy consumption in the industry.","PeriodicalId":266112,"journal":{"name":"2018 UKACC 12th International Conference on Control (CONTROL)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129937045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instead of assuming a constant future input, the dynamic is shaped with a first-order Laguerre polynomial so that it converges to the expected steady state value. This modification provides simpler coding and tuning compared to the conventional method in the literature. Simulation results show that the proposed controller improves the consistency of the open-loop prediction of an integrating process and thus improves closed-loop performance and constraint handling properties. The practicality of this algorithm is also validated on laboratory hardware.","PeriodicalId":266112,"journal":{"name":"2018 UKACC 12th International Conference on Control (CONTROL)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126661930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bleed valve fault detection is a challenging task due to the inhospitable environment that the bleed valve is located and the limited available sensor signals that can be used for detection. The problem is investigated in this paper and a Kalman filtering-based likelihood ratio approach is proposed for bleed valve event detection where only the pressure line signal and the scheduled bleed valve demand signals that are currently available in a GTE are used for detection. With the proposed approach, two models are developed for tracking the change in pressure signal, one with the scheduled bleed valve demand signals as input and one without. Two Kalman filters are designed based on these two models and the likelihood functions of the pressure observations are then evaluated with the state estimates from these Kalman filters. The bleed event detection is eventually achieved via the likelihood ratio test. The developed method is used for detecting bleed events using real flight data and the results are very promising.","PeriodicalId":266112,"journal":{"name":"2018 UKACC 12th International Conference on Control (CONTROL)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130396972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several evaluation scenarios are proposed that include both sensor uncertainty and increasing difficulty. An intensive 1000 cycle Monte Carlo analysis is used to assess the performance of the selected algorithms under the presented conditions. The Optimal Reciprocal Collision Avoidance (ORCA) method was shown to demonstrate the most scalable computation times and collision likelihood in the presented scenarios.
