In this work, the problem of data reduction in smart grid IoT network is addressed to enhance the resource utilization without hampering the required quality of service. A novel versatile algorithm for multivariate data pruning at the edge devices in smart grid IoT networks is presented. This is achieved via a two stage data reduction mechanism which first exploits the inter-variable correlation to cut down on the number of transmitted variables, followed by adaptive data compression in temporal domain using adaptive compressive sampling. It is shown that with the application of the proposed algorithm at the edge nodes, around 23% savings in bandwidth requirement can be achieved with minimum loss of information.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115295976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The VLC link has been separately characterized and supports bandwidth > 800 MHz. Streaming of 1280 ⨯ 720 HD video is successfully demonstrated over this VLC link with an ethernet link data rate of 200Mbps and RF carrier frequency at the radio front-end at 245 MHz. When compared to previous multimedia streaming demonstrations in LED based VLC links, the high link data rates, and RF carrier frequency as reported here are achievable due to the large inherent bandwidth supported by laser sources. The potential applications of this demonstration are in next-generation heterogeneous wireless networks in which Wi-Fi and VLC links co-exist. The high-bandwidth optical wireless link as demonstrated here is suitable for low-latency, data-intensive, dedicated communication, for example in robotic telepresence, tactile tasks, etc.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128666626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventionally 12 Lead Electrocardiograph (ECG) is used to detect such anomalies but pose a challenge within home settings. To overcome this challenge, we propose a low cost, automated Myocardial Infarction (MI) system that has been validated with single, 2-lead and 3-lead ECG acquisition. We conclude that the 2-lead system provides superior results in terms of positive predictivity, sensitivity, specificity and accuracy to be 94.6%, 84.2%, 86.5% and 85% respectively and is worthy of field deployment.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129129876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current contention based decentralized wireless access system is reactive in nature to mitigate the interference. In this paper, we propose to use neural networks to learn and predict spectrum availability in a collaborative manner such that its availability can be predicted with a high accuracy to maximize wireless access and minimize interference between simultaneous links. Edge nodes have a wide range of sensing and computation capabilities, while often using different operator networks, who might be reluctant to share their models. Hence, we introduce a peer to peer Federated Learning model, where a local model is trained based on the sensing results of each node and shared among its peers to create a global model. The need for a base station or access point to act as centralized parameter server is replaced by empowering the edge nodes as aggregators of the local models and minimizing the communication overhead for model transmission. We generate wireless channel access data, which is used to train the local models. Simulation results for both local and global models show over 95 % accuracy in predicting channel opportunities in various network topology.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129925280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A distributed detection model is assumed where secondary users (SUs) employ autocorrelation detectors (ADs) for the detection of a PU. In the presence of a PU, it is assumed that the observations across different SUs and subsequently the decision statistics are dependent. For the fusion of these dependent statistics, different copulas such as $t$-copula, Gaussian, Clayton and Gumbel are employed. In the presence of dependence among decision statistics, significant improvement in detection performance is observed while using copula theory instead of the traditional assumption of independence. Simulation results are presented to show the superiority of copula-based spectrum sensing.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130203550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The malicious sensors need not report their measurements truthfully and a malicious actuator may not apply inputs in accordance with the control law. The honest actuators in the system, if there are any, employ Dynamic Watermarking in order to detect the presence of malicious nodes. The state space of such a system can be decomposed into two orthogonal subspaces, called the watermark-securable and the watermark-unsecurable subspaces, such that the malicious sensors and actuators cannot degrade the state estimation performance of the honest sensors and actuators along the watermark-securable subspace if they wish to remain undetected. This paper presents a precise characterization of the watermark-securable subspace for any system containing at most one malicious actuator.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127674498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The determination of demand based on discharge headway has also contributed to inaccuracies in demand estimation. Hence, this study proposes a heuristic adaptive traffic control algorithm using demand estimation based on queue length, which is expected to perform better in varying traffic composition, roadway geometry, and the presence of road-side friction. VISSIM 6.0 was used to evaluate the algorithm, with an existing vehicle-actuated algorithm used as a benchmark. In order to evaluate the developed algorithm, two test cases are presented with average stopped delay, average control delay, average queue length, and peak hour discharge. Results show significant improvements to the adaptive traffic control algorithm with respect to the parameters considered for evaluation.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122494104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be activated in both dual connectivity and carrier aggregation architectures. Currently, in 3GPP 5G NR specifications, packet duplication is semi-statically controlled via higher layer signaling. However, this may lead to loss of throughput as it may be activated even when it is not necessary. In this paper, we study dynamic activation of packet duplication based on certain parameters of a user equipment (UE) and show that there is a reliability-vs-throughput trade-off that must be handled carefully when using this feature. Extensive numerical results are presented to support the findings in this paper.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124157083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Synchronized devices accurately time-stamp the events and enable timely communication of messages over a communication network. In absence of a common time base, critical functions of automation systems cannot be carried out in a safe fashion. Unsynchronized systems may lead to malfunctions such as false alarms, wrong decisions and erroneous outcomes resulting into serious showstopper for plant operations. Despite technical advances in synchronization, industrial automation systems have lagged compared to telecommunication and financial services in utilization of latest synchronization technology. Thus, there is a need to investigate the adoption of synchronization in industrial networks, its current state and implementation problems. We carried out an extensive literature search in a structured way to study the evolution of synchronization in automation systems. We also investigated today's industrial automation systems and their network topologies to get insight into the synchronization techniques and mechanisms being used. As an outcome of study, the paper highlights the challenges related to synchronization in existing automation networks that need to be addressed in the immediate and short-term future.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126807278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, mmwaves suffer from unusually high attenuation, through free space, and especially through obstacles. The accepted way to avoid such attenuation is to break up the transmission path into multiple short hops, such that there are no obstacles between nodes. We extend the possibility of using a global positioning system (GPS) based, location aware, centralized approach to the problem of relay selection. Satellite imagery can be used to avoid static obstacles in the transmission path. However, satellite imagery cannot acquire smaller obstacles ones like bushes, trees and signboards. Moreover, depending on the size of the obstacle with respect to the heights of the mmwave base station (BS) and an user equipment (UE), presence of an obstacle does not guarantee obstruction. We propose a simple learning based approach to detect the presence of static as well as dynamic obstacles, without resorting to satellite imagery. We then use this knowledge to efficiently select an appropriate relay for a UE, lowering the chance of allocating an obstacle prone link. Finally we compare our relay selection algorithm with an existing algorithm and show that there is a significant improvement in the quality of link allocation.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127389930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
