However, the centralized storage model is currently used for storing such sensitive information. One main disadvantage of the centralized model is the difficulty in preserving user privacy. Threats relating to user (patient) privacy include unauthorized access of critical information such as identity details and diseases from which a patient is suffering, and misuse of patients' data and their medical reports. To address this issue, we propose a distributed off-chain storage of medical data using IPFS (Interplanetary File System) and blockchain technology. The proposed framework while preserving patient privacy facilitates easy access of medical data by authorized entities such as healthcare providers (e.g., doctors and nurses). Moreover, it achieves consistency, integrity, and availability.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129616566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, our analysis of Chennai flood relief efforts revealed many downsides to the relief efforts based on social media such as inaccurate, inconsistent, incomplete, and stale information, user anonymity, information misuse, lack of geographical information etc. To address these issues, we propose the following technical, security, and operational considerations for building a robust disaster relief application. We classify the technical considerations into performance and resilience. Security considerations cover data integrity, trust, and privacy. Operational considerations include multilingual support, GIS support, data organization, live status updates, and disaster boundary demarcation. We illustrate these considerations in the context of Amrita-Kripa, a disaster relief application based on crowdsourcing. Amrita-Kripa was deployed during 2018 and 2019 Kerala floods and provided relief to thousands of victims.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122665455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mobile phones play a critical role in estimation, evacuation and relief operations as they can be used for sensing and transmitting information such as location, elevation, acceleration, images and other user generated messages, but the mobile IoT edge devices are often resource constrained by battery and network. In this paper we present AROM, an Adaptive Resource Optimization Model for optimizing mobile sensing and communication systems, by considering network and battery constraints. AROM works by adaptively computing a resource criticality score and controlling sensing mechanisms and throttling and prioritizing network communications based on the score. We also present the details of performance tests done to validate our model and the analysis of results. We have implemented this architecture in our Amrita-Kripa disaster relief application which was deployed during 2018 and 2019 Kerala floods for rescues and relief activities.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123210812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the existing work on massive MIMO relaying solves the weighted sum energy efficiency (WSEE) maximization problem using iterative optimization algorithms, which are not suitable for real-time implementation due to high computational complexity. We develop a deep neural network (DNN) based power allocation to maximize the WSEE by learning a unknown function which maps the input (i.e. channel fading coefficients, system total transmit power and relay antennas) and the output optimal power vector. Once the DNN learned the unknown map, DNN provides a non-iterative closed form expression to solve the WSEE maximization problem in real-time with much lower computational complexity. We numerically demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach achieves optimal performance as the existing iterative optimization methods.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115484776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under the contract, the ISP makes investment decisions to improve network infrastructure that in turn improves the quality of service for the end-users. Such contracts are studied under the neutral and non-neutral regime where it is observed that the neutral regime yields lower social utility though it is preferred from the point of view of making the Internet a level platform for CPs of all 'size.' In this work, we propose a soft-neutral regime for revenue sharing in the Moral Hazard framework that alleviates the loss in social utility in the neutral regime. The 'softness' of the regime is parametrized by a single variable and spans the neutral and the non-neutral regime as we vary it between two extremes. We evaluate the social utility in the soft neutral regime and show its improvements over the neutral regime.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114167209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although, IoT has a lot of business opportunities, but its open and distributed nature makes it vulnerable to many cyber attacks. An intrusion detection system (IDS) is responsible for monitoring and detecting malicious activities in any computing system or a network. However, traditional IDS methods require modification and enhancement for implementation in the IoT system largely due to its usage of specific protocols stack and limited availability of computational resources, memory space, and power in these devices. In this paper, we propose a lightweight IDS for resource-constraint systems by using the concept of Benford's law, network flow size difference, and linear regression. We have done extensive experimentation using a benchmark NSL-KDD dataset that shows very positive results.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114344384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work utilizes an operationally-deployed Wi-Fi based indoor location infrastructure, based on the classical RADAR algorithm, to tackle two such practical challenges: (a) Low cardinality, whereby only the associated AP generates sufficient RSSI reports and (b) outlier identification, which requires explicit identification of mobile clients that are attached to the Wi-Fi network but outside the fingerprinted region. To tackle the low-cardinality problem, we present a technique that uses cardinality changes to demarcate periods of stationary behaviour, and then augment the RSSI reports with useful but apparently “stale” RSSI readings from neighbouring APs. To tackle the filtering of clients with outlier locations, we propose a model that combines a weighted path-loss propagation model with a Voronoi tessellation of the fingerprint map to define suitable boundary values for RSSI readings. We experimentally show how these two approaches improve the stability and robustness of location tracking, and consequently, the accuracy of overall occupancy estimation.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123854612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
