We use a cointegrating regression model of FM-OLS and D-OLS along with Cubic Spline missing data interpolation, summary unit root test, unit root test with Dickey-Fuller breakpoint selection, and Johansen cointegration test. Daily time series data of Covid-19 cumulative case, exchange rate, IDX composite, and gold commodity price were analyzed around 119 days after the first announced case in Indonesia. The finding from FM-OLS and D-OLS analysis showed that the Covid-19 pandemic has a positive and significant impact on exchange rate and gold commodity price. The Covid-19 pandemic impact is appeared to be negative and significant in explaining IDX composite price. It seems that during the Covid-19 pandemic, people prefer to do transactions in the commodity market than neither capital nor money market. The diagnostic of cointegrating regression showed that all variables are integrated of order one I (1), and the long-run cointegration among variables in each equation exists. From the unit root test with break point selection, this study revealed that Covid-19 pandemic has an extreme impact on Indonesian market performance only in the first month after the case was announced. The government responses to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and to minimize the possibly profound impact of market performance are appeared to be successful. Besides, it seems that people's fear is diminished, quite high in the first month, and began to shrink in the following month.","PeriodicalId":264194,"journal":{"name":"Research in World Economy","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133637379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study goes beyond this well-known fact to understand whether economic freedom indicators are relevant cause for global competitiveness in attracting foreign direct investments and how this relationship behaves in different conditions of political stability. We focused our empirical study to mediating and moderating processes through which global competitiveness is linked with FDI. We developed and tested a second stage moderated parallel mediation model to observe mediating effects of economic freedom and moderating effects of political stability. Our research was focused on mediating effects of several indicators of Economic Freedom including Size of Government, Legal System & Property Rights, Sound Money, Freedom to trade internationally and Regulation. The findings indicate that Legal System & Property Rights and Freedom to trade internationally have positive conditional indirect effects within the model. Freedom to trade internationally is a much more sensible mediator variable in case of different levels of political stability while Legal System & Property Rights is not significantly affected by political stability, strengthening economic freedom in these two dimensions provides an enhanced effect of existing competitiveness on FDI growth. We recognized that political stability has no influence on the indirect effects between competitiveness and inward FDI produced by Legal System & Property Rights, as one of the dimensions of economic freedom. Therefore, to attract FDI in unstable political conditions is very useful to establish a proper legal system and adequate protection of property rights. In such a legal environment, foreign investors will feel comfortable regardless of the political risks in the country. Freedom to trade internationally is a much more sensible mediator variable under the influence of political instability.","PeriodicalId":264194,"journal":{"name":"Research in World Economy","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126705856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore in this study, the relationship between the size of the public sector (its spending) and its efficiency was analyzed. For this purpose, a 24-year data of the period, 1995 to 2018, were evaluated. In this context, a comparison was made between the data of 36 OECD-member countries and seven non-OECD countries. In conclusion, it was seen that, since OECD-member countries are generally high-income countries, public expenditures in those countries are far from populism and are used effectively in order to meet the social needs. On the other hand, in developing countries, since the growth in the public expenditures tends towards mostly public goods and services in which political actors are given priority, the efficiency either remains limited or is negative.","PeriodicalId":264194,"journal":{"name":"Research in World Economy","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117200839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examined optimal tax behaviour and corporate survival with a focus in Nigeria. Ex-post-facto was adopted and data computed from annual accounts of 52 out of 198 quoted companies were used. Descriptive Statistics, test of normality, outliers, and multi-collinearity tests were carried out to establish the normality of the data. Both fixed and random effects of the generalized least square multiple regressions were conducted and the outcome of the test showed that ETR is a positive but insignificant determinant of EPS while EATS were found to be a positive and significant determinants of EPS of companies in Nigeria. The study concluded that quoted companies are yet to effectively and efficiently explore loopholes in tax laws. The study recommended that companies in Nigeria should urgently explore these loopholes and improve their performance and experts with professional skills should be engaged as not infringe tax laws.","PeriodicalId":264194,"journal":{"name":"Research in World Economy","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133655444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The criticality of the taxation factor is shown and the main disadvantages of the tax system for the discussed area are highlighted using the example of modern Russian realities. A typological variety of tax environments associated with a modern Russian high-tech enterprise is presented and they are integrated into a system. They are classified on the basis of taxpayer subjectivity in the context of the hierarchical level (macro-, meso- and microlevels) and country affiliation. Substantial formulation and formalization of the optimal taxation problem for the external macroenvironment for cases of non-crisis and crisis situations are presented. Software and mathematical tools for solving it are configured. There are demo example and references to testing the proposed development.","PeriodicalId":264194,"journal":{"name":"Research in World Economy","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130512224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent times monetary policy tools have become very productive in stabilizing an economy. Thus, this study employs three monetary policy instruments which include: money supply, interest rate and exchange rate to examine the effectiveness of the monetary policy on economic growth stability in Nigeria from 1998 to 2018. The findings reveal that the money supply is substantially positive in influencing the GDP, which is used as a proxy for economic growth stability. However, interest rate and exchange rate do not have a significant impact on the GDP. The study concludes that money supply is the most productive monetary policy tool in Nigeria and recommends its proper usage to achieve maximum economic benefit. The relevant financial power (CBN) in the country is encouraged to allow more accessibility to credits by reducing interest rate and exchange rate fluctuations.","PeriodicalId":264194,"journal":{"name":"Research in World Economy","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130312561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
