The Serbo-Macedonian Unit as a gneiss-dominatedbasement segment is positioned in the proximity of the Baltican craton (peri-Moesian realm). This area represents a repository of the transferred broadly similar thus highly complex, elongated polycrystalline vestiges of the Pan-African inheritance. This peculiar far-travelled composite crustal fragment of north Gondwana is amalgamated on top of the Supragetic unit during the late Variscan peri-Moesian amalgamation. However, the original early Paleozoic tectonostratigraphic configuration of these three intimate green schistandmedium to high-grade gneiss-amphibolite basement vestiges (Serbo-Macedonian/Supragetic and Getic) is further perplexed by the presence of poorly documented pre-Variscan (Ordovician?) lithospheric-scale event.The Pan-African to Lower Paleozoic subduction/magmatic arc stage led to the amalgamation, breakup and dispersal of a cluster of peri-Gondwanan continental and oceanic terranes. Breakup and dispersal from the northern shore of the Gondwanan active margin triggered the development of the Paleozoic deep-marine sedimentary cover (“Kucaj unit” or Getic unit). To make matter more complex, prior the Lower Paleozoic terrane agglomeration and subsequent dispersal, it appears that a Lower Paleozoic geodynamic linkage isadditionally marked by the poorly investigated cross-lithospheric event. This event connects the outboard oceanic Supragetic/“Kucaj” succession with a segment of the former north Gondwanan protobasin (juvenile Serbo-Macedonian Unit).","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"924 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131919987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This complex was formed by post-collisional magmatic activity that lasted from Oligocene to late Paleogene. In this study, lead and sulphur isotope measurements were performed on different ore minerals in order to constrain the origin of mineralizing metals and the temperatures of their deposition.  The galenas from the Bakrenjaca ore field show high 207Pb/204Pb values implying that the lead was dominantly derived from the upper continental crustal geochemical reservoir which was probably recycled within the mantle and erupted during tertiary post-collisional magmatism. Sulphur isotopes were measured on galena, sphalerite and pyrite from this ore field and all d34S values are between 0 and 3 ‰, which indicate that sulphur has a mantle origin.  Sulphur isotopes were also used to estimate temperature of mineral deposition in veins and the calculated temperature was between 300 and 400°C. Since this temperature is too high for epithermal deposits, it is probable that these minerals weren’t deposited in isotopic equilibrium and other methods should be conducted for more precise temperature measurement.","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134043164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Drina Formation is also informally referred to as the“Lower Drina Formation” and the “Upper Drina Formation” including the Golija Formation as a conditionalanalog unit of the latter. A review of the biostratigraphic, sedimentary and paleogeographic constraints identified Drina Formation (Inner Dinarides) as a migrated crustal segment derived from a marginal section ofnorthern Gondwana, being, however, of Neoproterozoic–Early Paleozoic age. The presence of arenites, pelites, conglomerates, scarce limestones, basic (sub)volcanics and tuffs of the volcano-sedimentary Drina Formation metamorphosed up to greenschist and locally up to amphibolite facies, coupled with the absence of felsic volcanism implies a passive margin setting. Considering the age, such environment was probably associated with the perplexed Lower Paleozoic Avalonian-Cadomian arc, situated along the former north Gondwanan active margin. More precisely, the Drina Formation originated from a depositional junction between the Gondwana sediment supplier (Sahara metacraton) and Cadomian arc. A comparison with the regional Early Paleozoic succession of the “Kucaj Unit” (eastern Serbia) yields the absence of typical anchimetamorphic Silurian to Lower Devonian deep-marine fossil-bearing succession. The volcano-sedimentary passive margin system of Drina Formation is overlain by a late Variscan convergencerelated voluminous clastic sequence allocated as the Golija Formation.","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116079267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Theremains of paleovegetation of various ages were preserved by the lake occurring in this area from LateOligocene to Early Pliocene. Therefore, the shifts in vegetation during the Miocene period may be easily followed by studying the paleofloras collected at the Berane Basin. The first and only known remains of aquatic (floating) plants were collected in 1995 at the locality Rosulje (Berane Basin) in the Early Miocene sediments. According to the morphoanatomical characteristics of leaves such as shape of lamina, veins, venation, presence of central disk or position of petiola, the specimens were identified as Nelumbo protospeciosa SAP., a widely distributed form during the Tertiary of Eurasia. No other plants or accompanying vegetation were recorded at the Rosulje site, so presence of Nelumbo protospeciosa was insufficient for determining the habitat, vegetation or climate during its existence. Therefore the paleoenvironmental reconstruction also included analysis of the already published Early Miocene flora from the locality Luge-Haremi (Berane Basin) and eco-climatic characteristics of recent Nelumbo species. At last was concluded that Nelumbo, which had leaves at least 30 cm in diameter, used to inhabit open, well-insolated sites, probably under the influence of the subtropical/Mediterranean-type climate.","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129764271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, these teeth with “intermediate” morphologies are attributed either to the mammutid species Zygolophodon turicensis, or to the gomphothere genus Gomphotherium - as a variation of G. angustidens or as a separate species G. subtapiroideum. This paper presents one such specimen, a fragmented lower third molar which originated from Miocene sandstones within the Krusevac Basin (possibly from the village of Bela Voda) in Central Serbia. We described the fossil and examined its metric properties in comparative context. Furthermore, we applied the semiquantitative method of WANG et al. (2016) in order to reduce subjectivity in our assessment of the degree of specimen’s zygodonty. Our results suggested that the specimen resembles Z.turicensis more closely than either G. angustidens and G. subtapiroideum, both in terms of the metrics and the degree of zygodonty. However, we were not able to make a firm taxonomical attribution, due to the fact that the specimen represents an isolated and incomplete fossil.","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134307413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, increasingly large areas are being settled andfarmed. This devastates soils and causes pollution by heavy metals and other components. Heavy metals inthe environment originate from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Natural sources generally includerock weathering and the propagation of heavy metals, such as Cr and Ni, from ultrabasic rocks. These are natural processes that generally do not threaten human health. Anthropogenic sources include industry and inappropriate disposal of waste in the environment. In such cases concentrations of heavy metals can be harmful to people and other living beings. Al Zintan is a city located in northwestern Libya, on a plateau mainly built up of Cretaceous sediments. Since the 1980’s, nomadic population has rapidly been settling this area. As aresult, a former part of the desert was transformed and is used for farming. Soil sampling at Al Zintan wasconducted in 2017, across a 2×2 km grid. A total of 143 samples were collected from depths of about 30 cm.The samples weighed 2 to 2.5 kg and generally comprised sand with a clay component. A Niton Xl3t goldd+instrument was used for chemical analyses, based on which GIS heavy-metal distribution maps were generated.The distribution of Cr, Ni, Cu and Zn is discussed on the paper.","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129489445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on reinvestigations of the type locality of the Grivska Formation and in adjacent areas following results can be drawn: 1) the Grivska Formation is Late Triassic (Early Carnian to Rhaetian) in age according to conodont dating. 2) Sedimentological and microfacies studies evidenced that the Grivska Formation was deposited on the continental slope and transitional to the Neo-Tethys Ocean. Based on the results of these investigations of the type area and several reference sections in the Dinaridic Ophiolite Belt the Grivska Formation is emended and clearly defined. In the Dinaridic Ophiolite Belt the Grivska Formation occur only as carbonate components and blocks in the ophiolitic melange. In other tectonic units to the east it can be expected that the continental slope is incorporated in the Middle-Late Jurassic accretionary wedge and therefore only metamorphosed sedimentary rocks may be preserved.","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128867295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The considered well, RB-16, is part of a groundwater source that provides water supply to Belgrade (Serbia). The source relies on the alluvial aquifer of the Sava River. The groundwater is mildly anoxic (Eh ~ 125 mV, Fe2+ = 0.46 mg/L, NO3 ~ 0.24 mgN/L, O2 ~ 0.1 mg/L). The paper is specific in the sense that it presents a novel approach to the definition of water well susceptibility to iron incrustation in an anoxic alluvial setting. Maximum permissible screen entrance velocities, as well as the structural characteristics of the horizontal screens and the radial collector well itself, are determined based on correlations established between the rate of well incrustation, redox potential, iron concentration in groundwater, and screen entrance velocities. One of the criteria is that the hydraulic resistances, caused by the precipitation of iron on the horizontal screens, are being lower than specified. The correlations between maximum permissible screen entrance velocities (the velocities that still allow a lower-than-specified increase in local hydraulic resistances at the entrance to the screens) and biochemical indicators (Eh, Fe2+) were taken from previous papers by the same authors and their associates. Original software was used for hydraulic analysis of the potential capacity of the location of well RB-16. The software supports 3D analysis, including boundary conditions, and was adapted for this particular purpose.","PeriodicalId":263923,"journal":{"name":"Geoloski Anali Balkanskog Poluostrva","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128501537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
