Geology and age of the deposits are given in the \u0000 geological-time order based on superposition of the Timok mineral-ore \u0000 Formation and the underlying (Cenomanian) and fossiliferous overlying \u0000 (Senonian) strata. The concept of dating Bor deposits the Turonian is \u0000 discussed in this context. Bor deposits lie between the Cenomanian Krivelj \u0000 Formation and the Senonian epiclastic Metovnica Formation. Embedded between \u0000 the two formations is the Timok volcanogenic Formation. Described in this \u0000 paper are principal members of the Timok Formation strata: volcanogenic and \u0000 subvolcanogenic- intrusive rocks, a zone of hydrothermally altered rocks and \u0000 main types of the Bor ore deposits: (a) Deposits of massive sulphide coppers; \u0000 (b) Vein and stockwork-disseminated type of mineralisation; (c) Porphyry \u0000 mineralisation; and (d) Reworked ore-clasts of copper sulphides of the Novo \u0000 Okno deposit. Identified deposits, according to the Bor Geological Service \u0000 records and published works, are systematized and summarized into three \u0000 geographic units: (1) Group of deposits Severozapad (Brezanik); (2) Central \u0000 Bor Deposits (Tilva Ros, Coka Dulkan, Tilva Mika, Borska Reka, and Veliki \u0000 Krivelj) and many ore bodies; (3) Copper deposits Jugoistok (ore bodies X and \u0000 J) and olistostrome deposit Novo Okno. Information given in this paper, the \u0000 discussion on relative geologic age of the Bor deposit’s floor and roof in \u0000 particular, support our concept that the process ceased before the Upper \u0000 Turonian, and that age of the primary copper mineralization is Turonian.

The results of pollen analyses of hyaena coprolites from the Early Pleistocene cave of Trlica in northern Montenegro and the Late Pleistocene cave of Baranica in southeast Serbia are described. The Early Pleistocene Pachycrocuta brevirostris, and the Late Pleistocene Crocuta spelaea are coprolite-producing species. Although the pollen concentration was rather low, the presented analyses add considerably to the much-need- ed knowledge of the vegetation of the central Balkans during the Pleistocene. Pollen extracted from a copro- lite from the Baranica cave indicates an open landscape with the presence of steppe taxa, which is in accor- dance with the recorded conditions and faunal remains. Pollen analysis of the Early Pleistocene samples from Trlica indicate fresh and temperate humid climatic conditions, as well as the co-existence of several biotopes which formed a mosaic landscape in the vicinity of the cave.

This orogenesis event caused an unconformity between the Sarmatian brackish sediments and the Pannonian lake-sea deposits. More than 6 Ma later, in these parts of the Paratethys, changes in the geographic framework, hydrological conditions and brackish - caspibrackish water chemistry led to the disappearance of restricted marine forms of life. A few euryhaline and marginal marine species survived this environmental change. Among the ostracodes, some originally freshwater taxa, such as Candoninae, entered the lake-sea. Many lineages show gradual morphological changes. The older, low diversi- ty ostracode fauna from the Lower Pannonian dispersed to the endemic species and genera during the Upper Pannonian. This interval is assigned as the "bloom time" for many ostracodes, both qualitatively and quantita- tively. This time sequence is the last appearances of genera such as Aurila, Cytheridea, Propontoniella, etc. and simultaneously, the first appearances for many new genera, such as Zalanyiella, Serbiella, Camptocypria, Sinegubiella etc. During the Pontian, migration processes were present. Therefore, it can be supposed that many eastern Paratethyan forms have Pannonian origin.
