The first of which is the absence of any Standards of English itself. The definitions of the term ‘Standard’ from the Cambridge and Oxford dictionaries are given. The paper also insists that neither the European Framework nor the English language proficiency exams (IELTS та TOEFL) are English language standards for their native speakers and that this type of standardization exists only for those for who English is a second language. The next problem that university teachers face in teaching correct pronunciation and vocabulary to future English teachers is that English is a large and flexible language, with a huge number of words, abbreviations and a large number of different accents. The article describes the three main London accents that exist today: RP, Cockney and EE. The latter is seen as a derivative version of the new modern accent from the mixing of RP and Cockney. У Шекспіра більшою мірою, ніж будь -де ще, шукали «мудрість і розраду» (wisdom and consolation). Однією з особливістей відношення до Шекспіра у США було помітне, на думку дослідників, перетікання реального у фікціональне та навпаки, незмінне бажання «перетворити реальну подію в знакове, а персонажів – у героїв». Злиття фікціонального (шекспірівських текстів) та реального мало місце в одному з найдраматичніших моментів історії США – вбивстві А.Лінкольна у 1865 р., вчиненого одним з відомих акторів родини Бутів (Booth), яка прославилась виконанням ролей у шекспірівських театральних виставах. Ефектність моменту вбивства була у співпадінні сценічного образу американця Ази Тренчарда, який відвойовував свої права з приводу спадщини у англійських родичів, кидаючи виклик своїй «перепоні», і реальної людини, яка кидала виклик тому, з політикою кого вона висловлювала свою незгоду вже давно. Національна жалоба з приводу загибелі президента була висловлена теж крізь шекспірівський текст – трагедію «Макбет», яку Авраам Лінкольн полюбляв і цитував частіше за все. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of images that reveal various aspects of motherhood: a pregnant woman, an infertile woman, a mother and her child, a woman after a miscarriage or abortion, a creative woman, a woman poet, etc. The theme of motherhood in the poetry of A. Sexton, S. Plath, A. Rich is considered in close connection with the theme of creativity and marriage.The theoretical basis of the study is the works of Y. Kristeva, Diane Wood Middlebrook, Marilyn Yalom, Wendy Martin, Sandra M. Gilbert, Susan Gubar, which made it possible to define the concepts of women's writing and text, female subject, and female creativity. The analysis focuses on the reflection of the theme of motherhood by a creative personality, as well as on the unveiling of some gender stereotypes regarding the motif of maternal love, a happy family and marriage. Konopelkina","doi":"10.15421/382317","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15421/382317","url":null,"abstract":"The article under consideration focuses on the study of the poetic heritage by one of the prominent representatives of the English literary tradition of the XVIIth century, a leading Cavalier-poet Thomas Carew with special emphasis on the stylistic peculiarity of his erotic discourse. Being restricted by the social norms and behavioral patterns of the court poet still found his own manner of seduction which won him a reputation of the wit of his time and a real libertine. In order to make a sexual appeal less overt the narrator using his erudition and sense of humor tries to demonstrate the naturalness of sexual intercourse, depicting the pleasures of flesh as an integral constituent of the circle of life, the law of Nature. Seducing a lady the narrator appears to contradict the Platonic tradition, being quite tough and stating that courting and complimenting a Lady in a traditional knight manner does not make any sense and a man should not feel inferior to a woman, instead threatening her that her beauty is not for long and thus the lovers are to use their time following the motto of the epoch “carpe diem”. Ця проблема є актуальною для сучасного перекладознавства, оскільки англомовна класична та сучасна проза є багатим джерелом знань про англомовні країни. Виникає потреба перередагувати існуючі українські переклади та створити нові. Лексичні одиниці, що позначають реалії, мають свою специфіку перекладу, оскільки в цьому випадку важливі певні базові знання. Актуальність дослідження, отже, визначається зростанням інтересу до англомовних реалій, що, у свою чергу, породжує інтерес до засобів їх перекладу з урахуванням мовних і позамовних особливостей. Мета нашого дослідження – проаналізувати існуючі засоби перекладу українською мовою реалій за творами Гарпер Лі («Вбити пересмішника», «Іди й постав вартового») та Стівена Кінга «Воно». Проблему визначення, класифікації та перекладу реалій розглядають С. Влахов та С. Флорін, Р. Зорівчак, К. Мальцева, Г. Чумак та ін. Матеріалом дослідження є 100 актуальних реалій різної структури, які мають наявні референти. Це передусім побутові та етнографічні реалії. Повсякденними лінгвокультуремами вважаємо усе, що є частиною повсякденного життя однієї культури і не є частиною іншої культури. Географічні реалії, тобто географічні назви певних місць, властиві певному народу, а отже, і мові оригінального тексту. Соціально-політичні реалії висвітлюють соціально-політичні аспекти суспільного життя відповідного історичного періоду. Отже, класичні американські твори мистецтва насичені різноманітними реаліями, насамперед побутовими, географічними та соціально-політичними. Перше місце серед засобів перекладу посідає транскрипція, в окремих випадках транскрипція з поясненням. Описовий переклад, доповнення та узагальнення також є поширеними трансформаціями. Менш поширені, але все ж наявні, прямий переклад і вибір аналога. Teaching online has become more popular, yet challenging, for many students and teachers. The author considers games to be a source of fresh ideas with the ability to relieve the monotony of education. Alongside traditional vocabulary presentations, games play a very important role in language teaching and learning. Moreover, games are a good way to raise students’ motivation for learning English as a foreign language and to improve and extend learning skills, which is essential for language learning. The evidence shows that online games significantly diversify the entire educational process. Based on our teaching experience, we can state that introducing vocabulary through online games greatly facilitates students’ understanding, raises their engagement into the lesson, makes them interested to advance in their learning, provides new ideas and brings variety into the classroom. Wordwall provides teachers with plenty of templates, ranging from the common multiple-choice quiz to matching pairs, anagram, sorting out, or cloze questions. Teachers can create resources and host activities by sharing an assignment link with students. Students can do the activities as an interactive in-class part or as homework. The demand for entertainment software is growing, and at the same time, it is encouraging video game creators to translate more of their products. However, in order to achieve a high level of popularization, the nature of multimedia interactive entertainment software products requires special translation, i.e. localization. Localization of video games is a complex process that is not sufficiently researched to date. The article attempts to determine the nature of the difficulties faced by the translator, such as the choice of translation strategies, the translation of cultural realities, the translation of the comic, and others. Attention is focused on the fact that semantic errors are often made during localization, which in their turn are divided into gross distortion of the original content, inaccuracy and ambiguity, and linguistic errors, among which lexical, grammatical, stylistic, spelling and punctuation errors can be singled out. It covers the gender perspectives found in the English TV advertising on the analysis of visual mail and female images. The aim оf the article is tо study theoretical aspects of media discourse research, to analyze linguistic features of gender representation in English media discourses. The paper aims to study the issue under review in the context of informatization and gamification of education by determining the criteria for selecting computer games for the Humanities who study English as a second language. The purpose is to present the ways of integrating computer-mediated methods into ESL learning and examine the effect they have on the learning process and learning strategies, and the students’ perception of the learning experiences afforded by gaming resources. It justifies that information and communication technologies, whose didactic possibilities were immediately appreciated by educators and adapted to their own advantage, may get an effective means to sort this problem out.In particular, the article gives a detailed account of the criteria met by computer-mediated games, that are, in their turn, will be used to optimize teaching English as a foreign language to German and French majors. These include the genre of the computer game, requirements for the technical side, game content and didactic requirements. The article is interesting for presentation of points of view of some linguists on existing types of discourse as well as an attempt to determine the place of expressive discourse among them. In a general sense, discourse is considered by scientists as a written or spoken result of a communicative event. When studying the typology of discourse, scientists in one way or another associate it with expressiveness, an expressive communicative act, an expressive type of speech acts, etc. Expressiveness, which is the main distinguishing feature of expressive discourse, is defined as expressive and depicting qualities of language that make it figurative and emotionally coloured. According to many linguists, expressiveness should be considered in relation to the concept of emotionality. The emotional in language is necessary for expressing feelings, and the expressive is necessary for enhancing expressiveness and imagery. Expressiveness is a broader concept than emotionality and includes emotionality as its most important component. One of the purposes of emotional expression is the realization of the speaker’s emotional intentions. The mechanisms of creating expressiveness and expressive colouring require further research.
