To achieve the purpose, we conducted qualitative study. We discussed with practitioners methods to handle risks and risk sharing mechanism in contracts. Interview findings revealed that almost all practitioners handle risk like traditional waterfall approach. All major risks are listed in matrix form. These risks are monitored continuously during entire development process and their probability of occurrence is assessed. At next step, mitigation plan is designed according to their probability of occurrence. Estimation risks are mitigated using relative estimates. Other ways to handle risks include keeping the sprint/iteration shorter and SWOT analysis. In most projects, risk sharing between supplier and customer is not defined in the contracts. It is assumed that for fixed price contracts risk lies on supplier side, for time and material contacts most of the risk lies towards customer side. While target price contracts provide some kind of risk sharing mechanism between supplier and customer.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"227 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116386470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We developed a project plan that included a business case; a risk assessment; a list of high-level activities with predecessors and ending dates; a communications plan; a file layout; a roles, responsibilities, and matrix with contact information; a professional responsibility section that listed training dates and training material; and high-level flow charts that document the new processes. Estimating the workload imposed by the US Department of Treasury mandate presented a challenge. The US Department of Treasury (Treasury) mandates that agencies attach the component Treasury Account Symbol (TAS) code to all intra-governmental financial transactions. The US Government Printing Office (GPO) has obligating documents for all their trading partners' contracts. Prior to Fiscal Year 2013, none of the obligating documents requests the component TAS code. Nor do we have the component TAS code stored and retrieved in the system of record. Therefore, estimating the workload imposed by Treasury presents a challenge. This paper will present a Bernoulli random variable as the basis for estimation. To find the additional keying workload per form, we can either use the normal approximation for the binomial distribution or calculate the expected keying workload directly from the binomial. Both approaches will be presented each with a numeric example. For this project, both the binomial distribution and the normal approximation estimators give the same estimates for the workload. Therefore, to save time and simplify the calculations, it is recommended to use the normal approximation for the binomial distribution.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127753804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More specifically, this concept defines a set of device classes with specific triggers and actions that can be linked to achieve certain tasks. For example, in home automation, an alarm clock can send a trigger command to a coffee machine and a radio when the alarm is activated. An important aspect of 6LoWPAN home automation network is the power management and security. The 6LoWPAN connects the devices within a network wirelessly at low power while maximizing the diversity and flexibility of the interconnections and communications. The 6LoWPAN neighbor detection allows for a “plug and play” utilization of the devices in the communication range of the network. Integration of 6LoWPAN requires minimal infrastructure modification, and consequently can become the preferred method for home automation. The interactions between the devices can be configured remotely by the user connected to a local network with the access control from other smart devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers or perhaps a server. In this paper, we present the architecture, design flow and implementation of a 6LoWPAN home automation platform to demonstrate the feasibility of the user defined interaction between the devices.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114672592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on an expert's digital trace, the system is able to request their support in providing answers to problems others have posted. Siemens' TechnoWeb is used as case study to demonstrate such a system. Knowledge is an indispensable asset of corporations, and increasing the productivity of the knowledge worker is an important management challenge in the 21st century. As such, knowledge management systems (KMS) play a crucial role. Siemens has combined a corporate social media platform, knowledge networking and formerly isolated bodies of knowledge with a semantic algorithm that can identify relevant experts. The system allows for innovation to occur and problems to be solved by experts, who would previously not have been involved.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129032360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Companies in the production field, in particular tool-makers in high-wage countries, are struggling to compete with companies from emerging markets. Due to lower costs for labor, energy and resources, tool-manufacturers from BRICS states offer tools at a lower price level. In reference to Porter, adapting a cost leadership strategy will not be sustainable for tool-makers from of high-wage countries. Thus their focus must be on providing higher tool quality and focus on new differentiation or segmentation strategies so as to retain a leading position in the global market. Within the 11th Transnational Collective Research Project Proposals (CORNET) program, the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) Aachen, Germany and its research partner IFT Vienna, Austria set up the “Total Efficiency Control” (TEC) project to focus on this topic. From the beginning in 2011 the TEC project has been supported by 14 German and Austrian tool manufacturers to enhance relevance. A Resource Consumption Calculation Tool (RCCT) was developed that allows the forecasting of total costs for tools over their entire life-cycle. The main aim is to enhance competiveness for tool manufacturers of high-wage countries by providing transparency regarding costs and quality. In a first step, a generic life-cycle for the tooling industry was defined and the major resource consuming factors were identified. These were subsequently broken down into 132 cost items. In close cooperation with the tool manufacturer 11 quality clusters were developed that define specifications of every tool clearly. Taking the cost items on the one hand and the quality clusters on the other hand allowed for the development of a two dimensional matrix showing elasticity's of the interdependencies between specifications and costs. The tool manufacturer involved with the project provided input to help define the elasticity's. Based on this matrix the RCCT shows that while higher quality tools have higher initial purchasing costs their costs in the utilization phase are lower due to e.g. less maintenance. Unfortunately the entire life-cycle costs are often not considered in the purchasing processes of the customer. The RCCT enables tool manufacturer to justify the price premium of high quality tools by demonstrating that the resulting lower costs during tool utilization make up more than 50% of the entire costs and therefore lead to a rapid amortization of the initial purchase price.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126200766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, contents for vehicular telematics are generated by multiple contents providers and their data formats are not compatible. Thus, it is difficult to integrate or exchange contents, e.g., navigation maps, traffic information, points of interest (POI), etc., for various telematics services. In this paper, we propose a telematics contents gateway (TCG) system, which enables the system to integrate different telematics contents, so that the contents can be interoperable. The proposed TCG supports a search function based on a web-service technology. In addition, it provides a common road network model for interoperability, integrating different road network models into the common model. In the experiments, it is verified that there is no information loss in the integration process and the processing time is satisfied for the requirement of telematics service providers (TSP).","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"146 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116049746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
