Many hospitals have been focusing their efforts in optimizing their inventory management procedures through the incorporation of technological solutions such as tracking devices and data mining to come up with an ideal inventory model. Demand forecasting is an integral part of inventory management and hospitals are no exception. Time series forecasting methods are widely used in traditional approaches. Limited studies integrated asset tracking technology and neural network analysis to facilitate demand forecast. This paper proves that neural network forecasting has a key edge over traditional time series forecasting methods. It also evaluates the improvements in the efficiency of the inventory management of infusion pumps at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) due to the integration of radio frequency identification (RFID) tagging and neural network forecasting to the current work flow process to allow it to capture and manipulate the data relating to the movement and usage of the infusion pumps. Projected ward and the total in-patient usage data were compared using error analysis algorithms such as mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute deviation (MAD) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The potential benefits of the proposed system, contribution of current study and recommendations for future research are also mentioned at the end of this paper.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128795871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The time of the Experts is usually the most limited resource. The methodology and selection of tools that have evolved to satisfy these needs are modular and highly situational. At their center lies a solid core procedure which is used to establish a framework for Expert/Scout understanding, which we call Solution Space. The paper presents the methodology and a selection of tools that have evolved as a best practice approach in several scouting processes.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124403542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Organizations seek to reduce development time with concurrent teams spread across geographical spaces as they jointly collaborate in designing, building, and testing the evolving software artefacts. However, the software evolution process is not an easy task, and requires many iterations of testing for ongoing verification and validation with some pre-determined design quality criteria. This is further complicated in distributed teams which interact over lean virtual platforms. This study investigates a distributed environment spread across Japan, India, and New Zealand to inform on how managed test lab model (MTLM) is used to facilitate quality assurance practices for testing of the evolving artefacts within the overall software development lifecycle process. The paper describes the operational aspects of using MTLM as an online framework in which responsibilities are assigned, test scripts are executed, and validation processes are formalized with appropriate use of toolkits to coordinate allocated task breakdowns across the three countries.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"48 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125206447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Organization's responsiveness and their reactions toward life cycles of products are critical to achieve sustained success once fluctuations are recurrent and the business environments are turbulent. Life cycles are getting shorter, and efficient handling can save large amounts of cash since many materials can be extracted, reused, and redistributed. Reverse Logistics (RL) and Closed Loop Supply Chains (CLSC) have garnered growing interest as a way to manage this reverse flow of products in a cost effective way. It is discernible that the degree of complexity in closed loop networks is usually higher than open networks. In a closed loop supply chain network, the attempt is to ensure a smooth flow of materials as well as extracting the maximum value from returning and end-of-life goods. Reduction of waste and generating profit for enterprises are two paramount achievements through integrating forward and reverse logistics. By considering various proposed conceptual models for CLSC, in this study at first we present a comprehensive applicable conceptual model. Then, we specifically focus on a CLSC network, which includes multiple plants, collection centers, demand markets, and products. To this aim, a generalized proposed mixed-integer linear programming model is presented that minimizes the total cost. The objective is to know how many, which production plants and Return Processors (Collection sites) should be open, which products, and in which quantities should have stuck. The goal of this model is to minimize the supply chain waste and reduce supply chain costs. In such a way, the supply chain system can be agile, integrated, robust, and lean. The proposed model can be extended to consider more environmental factors. Moreover, the efficacy and efficiency of that have been validated by case study and numerical example.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126186380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ghane","doi":"10.1109/ITMC.2014.6918594","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ITMC.2014.6918594","url":null,"abstract":"Software quality control and quality assurance have close ties with predictability, speed/time, and cost of software development. Process improvement has essential impact on these factors that drive the quality of software project outcomes. While stochastic design and process improvement methodologies based on the Lean Six Sigma can greatly help with process design and improvement, software development processes are substantially different from the processes in the other disciplines such as manufacturing or service operations that produce same/similar product/services. It's not feasible to quantify software processes in a discrete manner that is required by the Six Sigma methodologies. The discrete simulation that is used in operations such as car manufacturing relies on the fact that system activities change state at discrete time points. However this cannot be applied to software development as the activities are not repetitive and they have time estimates at best. The continuous simulation approach lacks the discrete simulation advantage of identifying inefficiencies and improving the processes along the line. Then the discrete simulation has the shortcoming of detecting consequences of improvements late in the process. The model and system introduced in this paper applies Six Sigma methodologies to software processes using hybrid simulation. It uses the relatively detailed empirical data - which the lean software development and agile methodologies produce - to simulate future activities. Such predictions are used as the baseline measurement data to assess the actual results of the continuous improvement activities. The Monte Carlo simulation is used to eliminate dependency on assumption of a specific distribution function for software development activities. The System also includes a framework for collecting process data and creating the empirical knowledge base that optimizes simulation, analytics and data mining. The System collects empirical data on process actors and uses them in simulation to provide estimations that incorporate the human factor that has substantial role in software processes. Over time the System effectively uses machine learning to improve estimation and in some cases to recommend actions to improve performance. The resulted data can be used not only for process improvement but also for evaluating impacts of factors such as outsourcing, geographical base cost, and time zone difference on the process quality.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130809872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also patients of any age, who are not able to walk, need to be taken care of personally. For this they have to be in hospital or someone like nurse should be with them for better care. This is costly in terms of money and man power. A person is needed for 24×7 care of these people. To help in this aspect we purposes an intensive care system which will take input from the patient and will provide information to the specified person, who is currently may not in the patient room. This will reduce the need of man power, also a continuous monitoring would not be needed. The system is using MS Kinect for better accuracy and can be installed at home or hospital easily. The system provides GUI for simple usage and gives visual and audio feedback to user. This system work on natural hand interaction and also no need to wear any sensor, glove or color strip.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114791476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As well as introducing various bibliometric ideas, network analysis tools identify and explore the concepts covered by the field and their inter-relationships. Specific results from different levels of analysis show the different dimensions of technology management: · Co-word terms identify themes · Journal co-citation network: linking to other disciplines · Co-citation network show concentrations of themes. The analysis shows that MOT has a bridging role in integrating ideas from several distinct disciplines. This suggests that management and strategy are central to MOT which essentially relates to the firm rather than policy. Similarly we have a dual focus on capabilities, but can see subtle differences in how we view these ideas, either through an inwards looking lens to see how organisations function, or more outward to understand context and change in landscapes.","PeriodicalId":263088,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Technology Management Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127601415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
