It is shown that the conventional SVM method cannot compensate for the current in the neutral wire in a three-phase four wire system. Simulations have been performed using PSCAD/EMTDC software. The proposed system is an active filter with two-phase structure employed in a three-phase system. The system also employs simple and effective control strategies for de-bus regulation and current control. The proposed system is a package with less switches compared to the conventional three-phase systems. The optimal parameters are found by GA with two objective functions, i.e. efficiency and torque ripple. A fuzzy expert system for predicting the performance of a switched reluctance motor has been developed. The design vector consists of design parameters, and output performance variables are efficiency and torque ripple. An accurate analysis program based on improved magnetic equivalent circuit (IMEC) method has been used to generate the input-output data. These input-output data are used to produce the optimal fuzzy rules for predicting the performance of SRM. Table look-up scheme and gradient decent training are used for optimal fuzzy prediction designed. Desired features for battery charger are low cost, fast charging, high power factor, high efficiency, minimum ripple and high reliability are fully achieved using proposed circuit. The converter using single switch forward buck converter topology and operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is designed and developed to achieve inherent power-factor correction in voltage follower mode. The design equations are derived and calculations are performed to achieve circuit parameters. The test results on developed converter are compared with simulated results to validate proposed design. A prototype for 20.25 W battery charger is built and tested to verify the design and analytical model. Two active switches and two power diodes are used in each converter leg which is different from conventional AC/DC and three level converters. The scheme is adopted with simple commutation procedure to reduce the complexity of control to ensure effective power transformation. Conventional AC/DC converter and three level converters usually have large value of capacitor at the DC side with neutral balancing which will increase the structural complexity. This paper encloses a converter topology with simple commutation procedure to have good voltage transfer ratio capacity, leading power factor and pure sine wave with only higher order harmonics in the line side. By providing small LC filter on the line side even this harmonics can be eliminated. Switches in each leg of same phase will turn on and turn off at zero current. In a switched reluctance motor (SRM), the non-sinusoidal flux waveform with different frequencies of flux reversals in various parts of the motor makes the core loss calculation difficult. The conventional method for calculation of the core loss is based on the stator pole flux density variation in the triangular fashion with the peak flux density at the rotor position corresponding to the conduction angle from the unaligned position, which will not give accurate results. In this paper, an accurate method for the calculation of the core loss based on actual flux waveforms in various parts of the SRM is presented. The proposed method is validated using the FE analysis. Compared to conventional techniques the presented approach works well for a non linear physical system and is thus suited for condition monitoring of machine system under varying operating and loading conditions. The performance of this technique is investigated through experimental study of realistic vibration signals. One such effort in this regard is reported in this paper. Due to the advent of power electronics; Brushless DC motor is considered as potential drive for automotive applications. Design of a direct drive, Brush less DC motor is presented. Many constraints have been considered, such as the size of the motor, maximum driving current and maximum output power. The diameter and the stack length are limited by using modern analytical tools of the prototype vehicle. Nobel analytical tools are used to obtain static and dynamic characteristics of the motor and geometrical verifications for low cost efficient design. A low cost electronic controller compatible for present application has been developed and discussed in this paper. The prototype is fabricated and tested on a lightweight electric vehicle. If there is no saturation in the ferrous portion of the mutual-flux path, the flux wave in the motor approaches a sine-wave shape, but some amount of saturation always exists in a typical three phase induction motor that has the effect of reducing the peak value of the flux wave. To study this phenomena, initially, 60 Hz saturation curves were used for the teeth as well as core yoke and performance analyses of the 2 motors (5 hp 4 P, and 15 hp 4 P) were done by FEM and then in turn, separate AC saturation curves for the teeth and the core yoke derived from the normal DC saturation curve were used, and FEM analyses were done to calculate all the electrical parameters of the motors.
