One pole of the machine is represented in finite element magnetic field analysis in order to define stator voltage time variations with the air-gap width. A circuit model is also developed in Matlab/Simulink environment enabling to account for rotor eccentricity of the generator in the complete wind turbine model. The proposed model accuracy has been validated by comparing the simulated results with measurements on a prototype. However, the FEM requires much computation time. Therefore, decreasing the number of FEM simulations may also decrease the simulation cost. Several optimal design methods overcoming this problem have been recently studied. This paper investigates the optimal design of the magnet pole of a brushless DC motor through reducing simulation cost. The optimization minimizes the magnet volume and limits the average and cogging torques to certain values. In this paper, the response surface methodology and Taguchi's table for decreasing the number of FEM simulations are used to approximate two constraints. The optimization result shows that the presented strategy is satisfactorily performed","PeriodicalId":262549,"journal":{"name":"2006 12th Biennial IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116041081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike the MHD generators so far studied, the proposed device does not need an external magnetic field to work, but it performs the energy conversion by means of the induction principle. The proposed approach is based on the Wavelet Based Current Signature Analysis. A current sensor, a digital analogical converter, and an oscilloscope, basically, form the data acquisition system setup. Using software tools, the acquired data are posprocessed. Based on wavelet analysis, the real-time failure detection is carried out. This approach is, particularly, helpful when a high accuracy process is needed. As an example, it can be mentioned the ones concerning the feedback control system applied to industrial machine process, in which the analysis of the electric equipment performance takes a very important role on it.
