Especially on the quality of teachers who implement government policies on education. References were made to good old days in Africa when morality, honesty and sincerity pervade everywhere unlike now that foreign culture has bastardized our value. The concept of value and value re-orientation was revisited to ascertain what is acceptable to Africans as a group of people which their education process should reflect.","PeriodicalId":262421,"journal":{"name":"Sokoto Educational Review","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114672496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample was made up of 360 (180 boys and 180 girls) drawn from the population of senior secondary school one (S.S.I) from six Senior Secondary Schools in Kebbi State. Akinboye’s Adolescent Personal Data Inventory (APDI) by Akinboye (1985) and the Adopted version of Parental Socio- Economic Status Questionnaire (PSESQ) by Adegoke (1987) were used to measure Self-concept and Parental Socio-economic Status respectively. The reliability coefficient of the instruments was (0.85 and 0.79) for APDI and (0.82 and 0.78) for PSESQ respectively. Academic Performance was obtained using the students’ scores in English Language and Mathematics in the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination of 2015/2016 session. Two hypotheses were generated and tested using t- test. The findings of the study indicated that there was significant difference between Parental Socio-economic Status and Academic Achievement. There was also significant difference between Self-concept and Academic Performance of students. The findings were discussed and their implications and recommendations highlighted. It was recommended that teaching became more meaningful when pupils are assisted to build a positive self-concept. Similarly, parents should show more concern in helping their children develop positive self-concept. Teachers should also take into consideration the socio-economic background of their students.","PeriodicalId":262421,"journal":{"name":"Sokoto Educational Review","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123457546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The population of the study was all 1,298 teachers in 25 public secondary schools in Sokoto metropolis. The sample size of 297 teachers was selected using proportionate random sampling technique. Three instruments were used for data collection. They include an adopted version of Jung’s Typology Test (16Personality Questionnaire) to measure personality type. The instrument was validated by experts in counselling and measurement at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and co-efficient of 0.68 was returned for the instrument when it was tested for reliability. The second instrument as Bakare’s Vocational Interest Inventory (VII) that was used to measure vocational interest of the respondents and its validity and reliability were obtained and documented by Bakare, The third instrument was Tambawal’s (2001) Career Maturity Inventory Attitude Scale (CMIAS) used to measure teachers’ career maturity which was validated and its reliability was obtained by Tambawal. Three research hypotheses were formulated and tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient, and Multiple Regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The study found significant relationship between career interest and career maturity of secondary school teachers, but found no significant difference between personality and career maturity of secondary school teachers. The study recommended that Sokoto state chapter of Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) should, on a regular basis, organise seminars, workshops and symposia for teachers to furnish them with information on the types of personality that fit different careers and how they can manage their personality to grow in their chosen careers.","PeriodicalId":262421,"journal":{"name":"Sokoto Educational Review","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121565363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study set two research objectives and tested two research hypotheses. It used conceptual framework and cognitive approaches; this study is unique because Njidda (1994) investigated the relationship between study habits and performance of Diploma students in Faculty of Education University of Maiduguri while this study investigated the relationship between pattern of study and creativity on students’ academic achievement in Borno State College of Education. The target population fo r this study was 4,517 students who have registered in NCE awarding institutions in Borno State. Purposive sampling technique was used to select two Colleges of Education in Borno State, the stratified random sampling procedure was also employed to select (322) participants 186 students from 351NCE III students' from Kashim Ibrahim College of Education, Maiduguri and 136 students from 210 NCE III students from Umar Ibn Ibrahim College of Education, Science and Technology, Bama. Students’ Pattern of Study Inventory (SPSI) and Students’ Creativity Test (SCT) was used by the researchers. Pearson’s r was used to test the hypotheses raised in this study. The results indicated that there is very low and positive relationship between creativity and patterns of study among students of Colleges of Education and indicated a high and positive relationship between the two variables. Based on the results the study recommended for College of Education counsellors to give more encouragement to the students to improve their pattern of study and use of some designed study time tables to improve outcome o f their studies. There is also the need for r College counsellors to give advice to the students to sustain their effort since the results revealed high and significant relationship between students ’pattern of study and creativity.","PeriodicalId":262421,"journal":{"name":"Sokoto Educational Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132460338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
