Therefore, an effective way to avoid possible fatal complications of the disease is to create awareness among pregnant women. Pregnant women who are aware of the danger signs of pregnancy will take responsibility for seeking medical attention if any complications arise. However, there is a lack of study done at public hospitals in Selangor regarding the knowledge level of PIH. Aim: To determine the level of knowledge regarding PIH among pregnant mothers. Methods: A cross-sectional design with systematic sampling was used. A total of 283 pregnant mothers who attended the antenatal clinic were recruited. All data were analysed using the Statistical Analysis Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Results: The results showed that only 32.9% of the respondents had good knowledge of PIH, while 67.1% had poor knowledge regarding PIH. Most of them had a higher level of education, such as tertiary (62.9%), two-thirds were employed (68.2%), the majority were Malays (89.8%), had children between 2 and 4 years of age (36.4%), and 30.0% were currently pregnant for 16 to 20 weeks. Meanwhile, 53.0% of the respondents attended antenatal check-ups fewer than eight times. The result indicated a significant association between parity and level of knowledge on PIH (χ²= 7.848; p= 0.049). Conclusion: The majority of pregnant mothers have poor knowledge of PIH. Health education on PIH is needed to reduce the rate of delay in seeking treatment.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116145307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tracheostomy is one treatment option for critically ill patients, especially severe head injury patients, who require long-term mechanical ventilation. Outcomes for mechanically ventilated patients with severe brain injury have improved, but tracheostomy practices for patients with severe brain injury are still being debated in Malaysia. Objective: This review highlights the pros and cons of early versus late tracheostomy among patients suffering from severe head injuries. Method: The Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms were used to search the previous articles related to the early and late tracheostomy. The database was searched for articles published after 2000. Result: Early tracheostomy brings more beneficial aspects to severe head injury patients. A good prognosis was shown in previous articles. Conclusion: This study seeks to explore whether it is true that early tracheostomy among severe head injury patients will reduce the duration of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay, wean patients off the use of ventilators faster, help in resource utilization, bring down the death rate, and reduce the likelihood of ICU readmission. Additionally, improved functional outcomes, aggregate quality of life, and rehabilitation compliance are all expected benefits of performing an early tracheostomy.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122660195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to evaluate nurses’ knowledge and compliance regarding urine collection with an indwelling catheter in a medical ward. A total of 101 registered nurses participated in this study from September 2020 to January 2021 at the Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZII). A total of 118 nurses participated in this study. Generally, the nurses had sufficient knowledge of the correct urine specimen handling. Cramer’s V analysis showed a moderate association between hand hygiene knowledge and practice among the nurses (φc: 0.273, p = 0.046). In addition, the knowledge and practice of decontaminating continuous bladder drainage areas displayed a relatively moderate association (p = 0.01). While most nurses showed knowledge of the contamination preventive measures, initiatives should be taken so that all nurses would be more likely to comply with the recommended procedure and reduce specimen contamination.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114140394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The study design employed in the study is Descriptive-correlational to measure the nurses' perceptions of organizational job satisfaction, and the link between job satisfaction and job retention using a survey questionnaire. A total of 139 registered nurses were selected using Random sampling method from the hospitals, rural health units, birthing places, and barangay health stations in municipalities of Lanao del Sur, Philippines. The data was analyzed through Frequency and Percentage Distribution and Spearman Rho Correlation using manual computation and SPSS. Nurse retention was calculated by dividing the average number of registered nurses during a period of 6 months by the job turnover rates on the units. Results: The findings revealed that the respondents were ‘satisfied’ on the overall indicators on the job satisfaction scale. With a Spearman Rho Correlation value of 0.003 and p-value of 0.016, the data suggested that there is a significant correlation between the respondents’ job satisfaction and job retention in the Nurse Deployment Project. Conclusion: This research illuminated the factors that may influence nurse retention, improve nurse job satisfaction, and promote healthy workplaces. Experts argue, however, that measuring the aspect of psychosocial trauma in a different language has limitations, especially among hospitalised children under the age of six. As a result, the study sought to revise and validate a trustworthy, child-friendly VAS for use in Indonesia. Methods: A preliminary survey was conducted among 81 respondents that met the inclusion criteria. An expert committee reviewed and revised the VAS-Anxiety-Indonesia for sensitivity and content validity. Thus, the Centre of Indonesia Language was charged with forward and backward translation from English to Indonesian and vice versa. In this study, data were collected in two phases. The first was the preliminary data collection from 21 respondents for face and content validity. The second phase recruited 60 respondents with retests and confirmations of modified items and components of VAS-A-Indonesia. Statistical analysis used a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.05. The second test performed the content validity index, item correlation analysis, internal consistency for reliability testing, and Exploratory Factor Analysis. Results: The instrument consists of 12 items. With three factors to measure anxiety, they accounted for 65.2% of the overall variance. The content validity index was 0.825 (Aiken's V), item correlations ranged from 0.354 to 0.686, and Cronbach's alpha was 0.837.
