Methods: The study was performed from December 14, 2020, until February 14, 2021, in a single tertiary centre in northwest Malaysia. The pain score was assessed immediately postpartum and every six hours for the next 48 hours, and the requirement for paracetamol as analgesia was documented. Maternal sociodemographic data and baseline clinical details associated with the requirement for paracetamol were analysed. Results: A total of 285 study participants were included. The majority (93.0%) were Malays, with a mean age of 31.0 6.08 years. Majority of the women delivered their second child (36.1%) with a first-degree tear (46.7%). The majority neither required any analgesia within the first few hours of delivery in the labour room (71.3%) nor in the next 48 hours of ward observation (54.4%). The mean pain score following spontaneous vaginal delivery in the labour room was 4.0 1.07, while the mean pain score in the ward was 2.8 ± 1.05 (p<0.001). Logistic regression analysis determined that maternal weight (cOR: 1.02, 95% CI: 1.01, 1.04) and episiotomy (cOR: 3.28, 95% CI: 1.52, 7.08) were significantly predictive of paracetamol requirement as analgesia. Conclusion: Most of our population did not require oral analgesia in the postpartum period. However, the identification of susceptible individuals may guide clinicians to have a targeted approach for early management to ensure a positive birthing experience for all mothers.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126735374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Factor like stress plays a vital role in the flux of relationship status and in understanding the stability of intimate relationships and quality in romantic relationships. Yet, there is a dearth on psychological distress noted on non-marital relationship disconnection, since the most documented research has centered on the context of marital bond disconnection. Thus, it prompted the researcher to conduct a qualitative inquiry on the role of psychological distress among women with experiences on mutual bond disconnection. Methods: Constructivist grounded theory and feminist theory designs were utilized to describe the role of psychological distress in relational health instability from the lens of women who participated on this study. This study employed theoretical and purposive sampling methods to enter research interest on relationship loss. Guided by a semi-structured questionnaire, the researcher explored women’s experiences on mutual bond disconnection. However, this paper focused on the thoughts, views, and feelings among women on relational health instability among couples Results: Thematic analysis generated the participants’ psychological stressors such as disrespect, disinclination, and monetary issues that caused their relational health instability and further led to mutual bond disconnection. Moreover, it provided an in-depth understanding of the factors causing romantic relational health instability such as: (i) humiliation, and (ii) financial matters. Conclusion: The findings provided an increased in-depth understanding of the psychological factors that leads to unhealthy relationships among romantic couples which further cause the mutual bond disconnection.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"57 23","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120810823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indonesia affected by COVID-19 and currently accelerating vaccination to the entire population throughout the archipelago in achieving herd immunity. The biggest challenge experienced by Indonesia at this moment is delivering COVID-19 vaccination during the event of natural disasters that continue to occur during 2020-2021 pandemic. This article written based on a review of legitimate Indonesian government sources, supported by research articles and official online news published in English and Indonesian language. The review indicated that Indonesian government committed to accelerate the vaccination with various measures. The Indonesian government's policy, Presidential Decree no. 99 year 2020 specified the provision and implementation of COVID-19 vaccine and initialization of the program across all regions. The government synergizes with community, while cross-sectoral collaboration highly visible upon the developed strategies amid disasters events. The strategies include mapping of disaster area, execute vaccinations in disaster areas, involving military and police in the national vaccine program, and introductory of proactive vaccination procedure by taking advantages of central public facilities for vaccination venue and involvement of health students serving as the vaccinator team. The results of this hard work have been proven to stimulate positive impact since Indonesia's vaccination rate has beyond the WHO target. 93.86% of the Indonesian population have received first dose vaccination, while 75.67% completed two-doses and 9.52% received third dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Indonesia is shifting the country status from pandemic to endemic.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123022707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and care barriers of healthcare workers from highly urbanised cities towards HIV/AIDS. Methods: A total of 171 healthcare workers in Leyte province were included in the study. The study utilized a self-report questionnaire and was conducted in the early quarter of 2021. Spearman rank-order correlation analysis was employed to answer the study's hypotheses. Results: Results revealed that the participants have moderate knowledge of HIV/AIDS and good work attitudes but have prejudicial attitudes and discriminatory behaviors toward their HIV/AIDS-related care. Furthermore, it was found that there is a positive correlation between knowledge and attitude, as well as attitude toward behaviors. Notably, results revealed no correlation between knowledge of HIV/AIDS and perceived behaviors. Conclusion: It can be concluded that health workers in highly urbanized cities like Leyte province have essential knowledge, attitude, and behaviors in providing care to clients suspected or confirmed of HIV/AIDS. A good attitude towards HIV suggests a likelihood of a health care provider having sufficient knowledge of HIV and practising caring behaviors.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"9 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125004597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Nigeria, the problem of disrespect and maltreatment during childbirth is quite high; midwives have been acclaimed as agents in this regard. Understanding the experiences of midwives in providing respectful maternity care during childbirth is critical to its promotion. This study therefore aimed at exploring and documenting the experiences of midwives in providing respectful maternity care during the birth of a child. Methods: This research was performed using a qualitative, phenomenological approach involving in-depth interviews conducted on purposefully selected midwives providing services in the labour ward of a Nigerian hospital. The thematic analysis procedure was used to create descriptive accounts of the study information, which was analysed using NVivo software. Study Sample: In total, 10 nurses or midwives currently working in the labour ward of the selected hospital participated in the study. Results: Midwives expressed expectations from pregnant women during childbirth that aligned with their belief in the preservation of patients’ dignity. Additionally, the opinion of the midwives pointed to the justification of disrespect with some patients acting outside of acceptable behaviours and composure in labour. Furthermore, health system constraints were also expressed to influence the experience of the midwives. Conclusion: Midwives are favourably disposed to providing respectful care during childbirth, but when their expectations are not met, their care becomes limited, and there are health system constraints. Several strategies could improve the experiences of midwives, including system-level changes and a collaborative shared model of care delivery between the antenatal clinic and labour wards.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125247857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, family caregivers have been faced with the challenges of fulfilling their domestic duties while acting as the coordinators of medical and nursing care for their patients. Caring for a family member with disability is a challenging task that may even be magnified by the presence of calamities and state emergencies. This paper examined the burdens and challenges experienced by family caregivers during the COVID-19 threat. This research utilized an illustrative case study approach, which typically focuses on one or two instances of an event to illustrate a phenomenon while highlighting the contextual elements of the case. It was discovered that the emergence of a highly contagious and deadly virus required a major adjustment in the lives of family caregivers caring for family members with disabilities, especially in communities where local transmission is rampant. Despite having local policies that have been set in place to prevent the continuing transmission of new COVID-19 infections, these restrictions highly affected the way of life in the communities and accentuated the lack of community resources for medical emergencies.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"187 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133897292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
