The data covariance under a factor model structure is a combination of a low-rank component due to common factors and a diagonal or sparse idiosyncratic component. In this paper we consider the estimation of the idiosyncratic component under the assumption of grouped variables, which result in a block-diagonal matrix. We propose a shrinkage approach which ensures the positive definiteness of the estimated matrix, using either known group structures or clustering algorithms to determine them. The proposed methods are tested in a portfolio optimization scenario using simulations and historical data. The results show that the cluster based estimators yield improved performance in terms of out-of-sample portfolio variance, as well as remarkable stability in terms of resilience to the error in the estimated number of latent factors.","PeriodicalId":261625,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"165 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113983623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One example of such industrial Ethernet protocol is Profinet and its low latency variant Profinet RT. However, in a cellular network such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, a UE is only provided an IP address by the System Architecture Evolution Gateway (SAEGW). This IP only connection is called bearer in LTE, does not natively enable Ethernet communication which is required to enable industrial Ethernet communication over cellular networks. To enable Ethernet communication over any IP transport, our paper introduces a solution to transport the message from UE to Ethernet Host without using encapsulating original Ethernet frames as such. It simplifies network configuration and maintenance by eliminating active signaling protocols and static configurations (tunnels) and results in less overhead for transporting the Ethernet frames and maintaining the infrastructure. This would directly benefit industrial connectors as the operational overhead of manual GRE tunnel management could be eliminated.","PeriodicalId":261625,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125977820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the High Luminosity LHC phase, a new calorimeter endcap named High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) has been developed for the upgrade of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector. High granularity together with increased pile-up will result in a huge increase in data rate. Therefore, efficient real-time analysis methods are required to select data coming from events of interest from tremendous background production. The development of specialized libraries, like QKeras, enables the quantization of neural networks (NNs) so far used mostly in the offline analysis due to their high processing requirements. The reduction of NN size together with input quantization makes possible their usage in limited resources as a particle classification strategy. We present a comparison of fully connected and convolutional NNs used for the potential real-time signal/background classification method. Results show that convolutional models slightly outperform fully connected architectures in both generic and quantized cases.","PeriodicalId":261625,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"282 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131651566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our approach is based on implementation of RetinaNet model and DeepForest Phyton package. For improvement of pretrained model via transfer learning, five olive groves were mapped using UAV, trees were manually labeled, and new image dataset was created. Several models were built, each being trained and evaluated on different set of images from selected olive groves. Experimental results obtained on a UAV image acquired over test olive groves are reported and discussed. Detection results showed high reliability of proposed approach and great improvement in performance compared to pretrained model.","PeriodicalId":261625,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130694865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The all-to-all personalized communication is a relevant commu-nication pattern for many multiprocessor applications, and has been extensively studied in the past for many network topologies. In particular, when using multistage interconnection networks, the method based on the realization of a sequence of permutations forming a Latin square is very advantageous. In particular, a method for realizing the Latin square consisting of the identity permutation and its $N-1$ rotations, $mathcal{R}mathcal{L}mathcal{S}$, has been proposed for the Butterfly-Butterfly network. In this paper, we consider the Fat-Tree, a popular interconnection network used in many distributed systems as well as in Data Centers, and show how to modify and extend the method for the $mathcal{R}mathcal{L}mathcal{S}$ to work on them, whatever the size of the network and switches considered. We then consider also the Slimmed Fat-Tree, that is a cheaper network in terms of circuitry, and for this reason, it can be conveniently used in very large systems. The proposed method can realize the $N$ permutations of a Latin Square in pipeline fashion in optimal time, that is $O(N)$.","PeriodicalId":261625,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114987674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SDN control centralization raises scalability issues. This work focuses on the scalability concerns of the Ryu SDN controller in various scenarios with distinct network topologies like tree and datacenter. Throughout this paper, we assess the consequences of distributing subscriber data requests over the controller performance into different network topologies also using a different number of subscribers. The performance of the Ryu is tested by observing the throughput of the controller. The assessment was accomplished by employing an Iperf traffic generator and Mininet. The paper studies two matters that impact the Ryu throughput: the exponential increase of the number of nodes in tree topology and the adoption of the same condition over a datacenter topology. The experiments involve the two types of topologies mentioned and a topologies size range from 200 to 2000 nodes and assessing the controller performance using the throughput as the performance criterion. The results of this research will be used in a research project oriented to 5G slicing, where the control plane is based on SDN.","PeriodicalId":261625,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117127895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

QoE routing, routing service traffic on an individual basis, has been applied to target this demand. Learning tools have also been applied to automate and tailor management approach in real time within the network. A network manager can evaluate routing decisions to determine if expected performance was reached, and make adjustments to the routing model if not. The difficulty with this approach remains in collecting and evaluating the network state and service performance in real time to enable learning in the network. Such metrics must also be suitable for developing or adapting a routing model. This paper expands on a framework for real time feedback supported management. The aim of the paper is to identify and evaluate a suitable real time mechanism to collect network state data and a suitable application feedback metric. The metrics are evaluated for use in a routing model. The solution is unique as it provides a framework for a general service given a suitable feedback metric for that service. The paper examines application KPI metrics as suitable feedback metrics for two services, video streaming and VoIP, with APSNR and PESQ used as respective feedback metrics. The paper defines and evaluates link metrics as a mechanism for real time state determination. The framework is implemented and evaluated on an emulated SDN testbed.","PeriodicalId":261625,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124033815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To ensure the stability of QKD network operation telecommunication service providers and engineers need to verify the quality of service (QoS). To do this, we built a quantum cryptography communication network testbed for 496km distance with nine trusted relay nodes in Korea, to evaluate the QoS of the quantum cryptography communication network. Also, we apply four QoS parameter values defined which are quantum key response delay, quantum key response delay variation, quantum key loss rate, and availability.
