The end user can access to high bit rate Internet services directly by WiMAX technology through the 802.16 base stations or by WiFi technology through a CPE/AP connected to the 802.16 base station. We provide a brief description of the different functional entities and we investigate several technical issues including infrastructure and aspects related to the AAA (authentication, authorization, accounting) procedures for users as well as the system security.","PeriodicalId":261480,"journal":{"name":"2007 4th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132691110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The convergence and interference reduction property of the algorithm is also demonstrated using game theoretic concepts. In order to evaluate the performance of the algorithm, the associated optimization problem is formulated into a variant of graph colouring problem, and a centralized algorithm is also proposed as an approximation of the optimal solution. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed distributed algorithm achieves acceptable performance in comparison with earlier schemes.","PeriodicalId":261480,"journal":{"name":"2007 4th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133526624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a method to obtain a fast and accurate estimation of the symbol error rate (SER) when the receiver is a correlation receiver with perfect synchronization and channel knowledge. The method is based on the estimation of the Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) distribution by means of the characteristic function (CF) approach. The results also apply to direct sequence ultra wideband (DS-UWB) modulation since it is a special case of DS-IR. The accuracy of the method is verified by comparing the SER prediction with that obtained by means of Monte Carlo (MC) simulation.","PeriodicalId":261480,"journal":{"name":"2007 4th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132000198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relay structure is optimized in order to achieve maximum SNR at the receiver nodes. This combination provides a significant reduction in the delay required for the relaying and transmission of the signals to the multiple receivers with a minute loss in performance. We have also shown that this loss in the performance could be recovered by selecting more number of relays. We propose three different relaying strategies for high rate space-time codes, which are very useful in providing faster handoffs for wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":261480,"journal":{"name":"2007 4th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133835404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we formulate an optimization problem which aims at maximizing the throughput that can be guaranteed to the mobile users. By building on results obtained by Borst and Whiting and by assuming that the distributions of the users' carrier-to-noise ratios are known, we find the solution to this problem for users with different channel quality distributions, both for the scenario where all the users have the same throughput guarantee, and for the scenario where all the users have different throughput guarantees. Based on these solutions, we propose an adaptive scheduling algorithm that performs significantly better than other well-known scheduling algorithms.","PeriodicalId":261480,"journal":{"name":"2007 4th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123183266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed CBM-ICC service is viewed as an integral element of the technical foundation for the future Ubiquitous Consumer Wireless World (UCWW). The CBM-ICC service will offer more flexibility and intelligence for the management of incoming calls in UCWW with regard to different users' personal requirements. This service will allow users to receive incoming calls via multiple access networks/providers, and thereby be Always Best Connected and Served (ABC&S). A CBM-ICC service architecture is described along with a classification of the main generic service scenarios. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate, analyze and compare the performance of a WiMAX link under different load and traffic conditions. For this purpose an experimental WiMAX test-bed has been deployed at the Communication Network Institute (CNI), University Dortmund and several experiments and stress tests are carried out over this CNI WiMAX test-bed in the uplink and downlink directions for various service and traffic types and at various distances from the base station.
