However, DC is not the most appropriate standard for the description of learning objects, which makes necessary resort to other standards. The Learning Object Metadata (LOM) standard emerges as the most suitable for the description of learning objects. Also, other standards such as Common European Research Information Format (CERIF) Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS) arise among others. This variety of standards makes the interoperability between repositories will become increasingly complex. Most solutions, until now, propose to adopt a metadata standard and include the necessary metadata to be harvested. This paper presents a solution based on ontologies for interoperability between repositories that use different metadata in the description of its objects.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"193 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115474742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In that sense, this paper aims to discuss challenges and possible ways to implement some key openness concepts for current MOOCs and OER.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133107069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an evaluation conducted with students on the convenience of including several graphical elements (labels for identifiers, arrows and shadows) in the visualization of an iterative algorithm. Students performed two tasks: to answer an opinion questionnaire and to trace visually the execution of the algorithm. The results reveal students' higher preference for arrows than labels or shadows. However, the analysis of drawings reveals frequent use of labels, highlighting changes in variable values, and remarking relevant variables. Some results can potentially be generalizable to other algorithm visualizations, such as the use of labels.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134440561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The game is freely available through online stores and the generated interest (about 100.000 downloads so far) has raised the need to discuss and adopt a sustainability strategy for the maintenance of the game and the development of new versions. This article presents possible alternatives for that strategy.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134045840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore ICT use continues to be a highly gendered area of life in all socio-economic and educational backgrounds, and a source of significant social inequality in enduring ways. Gender and ICT/technologies is an international growing field of research that explores diverse research issues, and the main objective of this paper is to characterize the Portuguese research on this topic, identifying the main areas of study and possible gaps. By analyzing institutional repositories of Higher Education in Portugal, conferences and journals on ICT and Education, this paper concludes that research on gender and ICT/technologies in Portugal is very limited and mainly on subjects related with education and occupation/jobs. To finalize the paper presents future research topics to foster knowledge on gender and ICT/technologies in Portugal.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129088297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In view of this concern, the study investigated whether licentiate in chemistry can illustrate in design and understand the concept of randomness present in the Kinetic Theory of Gases, during the application of didactic objects. In order to achieve this goal, we seek to answer the central problem of the study: does the participants take into consideration the experiences in each proposed context in the learning objects to redraft the drawings and scientifically understand the concept of randomness? For analysis of the drawings, a standard was built from the figures of didactic objects. The data revealed that every new experience, some participants sometimes sought in their previous schemes, assimilate the facts observed in the context of application of learning objects, and sometimes built new schemes by modifying the way to illustrate the particles in the drawings. We conclude that learning objects can be used as digital resources in pedagogical practices of teachers, contributing to the teaching and learning of the scientific concept of randomness present in the kinetic theory of gases.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"181 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128180290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
