In particular, we demonstrate that increasing students' motivation can have a negative effect on students' efficiency if they engage with the applications in a wrong way. In our carried out experience, we have used a virtual reconstruction of the TT 209 archeological site in Luxor. This application allows students to move inside and outside the site and get some information on the different activities that were done along the field work. We have found that students tend to use the application just as a game. This fact decreases students' efficiency since they do not pay enough attention to the learning activities inside the system. To avoid this effect, we propose to use gamification strategies such as rewards to redirect students' attention to the learning process.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"18 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120990336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the authors propose an Institutional Teaching Evaluation model that applies, among others, the Sentiment Analysis to identify which teaching practices are positive or negative from the perspective of students from a Higher Education Institution. Differently than the current Institutional Teaching Evaluation models, which are founded on the evaluators' assumptions, this model responds to the need of better pedagogical practices through data mining, finding new categories of analysis in the discourse of a group of students to contribute to the conception of a more effective Teaching Evaluation and to create awareness about teaching practices.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127172801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article presents a decision-making support system that allows teachers to identify students with poor academic performance. The strategy is a Matrix Based Recommender System to rate assessments and share the results using statistical graphs. To validate this proposal we used focus group and daily meetings methodologies. The proposed strategy was tested in UGEL07-Lima-Perú with 135 schools and 25491 students in evaluation process. The evaluation results show that teachers agree with the proposed strategy, because it allows them to have assessment information everywhere and at every time. The results also highlight that using the tool users can have visual information in real time. Furthermore, the information shared through the application improves decision-making on corrective actions for poor academic performance in evaluated areas.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115548609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within the assessment of information literacy skills, the effect of gender seems apparent. However, the contextual nature of gender makes it difficult for the results of the studies to result in specific improvements and innovations in the schools. The aim of this study is to show the potential of the statistical techniques of mediation and moderation to identify the effect that non-contextual variables have on the relationship between gender and academic achievement. We implemented innovation projects in 22 schools from Castile and Leon and Andalusia with a pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest, reaching a representative sample of 260 students and 22 teachers from Secondary Education. The results were obtained with a validated instrument for the assessment of information literacy skills, and they confirm the usefulness of these techniques for the detection of moderating variables. In addition, it is evidenced that, in the case of information literacy, gender is an effective moderator in some cases and a predicting variable in others. Finally, we discuss about the potential of mediation and moderation techniques in gender studies, the limitations they pose at present, and the contribution they can make in future studies, mainly in the field of factors associated to academic achievement and key competences.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125460424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research work presents the results of a descriptive study on the attitude of future teachers towards the didactic use of mobile devices when they are incorporated to their teaching practice. To this end, we have administered a questionnaire based on the TAM model, to which we have added the construct of subjective norm, to the first-year students from the Primary Education Teacher Bachelor's Degree from the University of Salamanca, in its branches of Ávila, Salamanca and Zamora. A total of 177 students have participated in this research. The results of the hypothesis testing have yielded significant differences according to the branch of the University that the students are enrolled in, but not according to their gender.","PeriodicalId":260604,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116489566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
