For this reason, it is necessary the continuous assessment of its condition, as any deterioration might cause economic and, potentially, human losses. Modern structures incorporate sensing technology with the aim of obtaining data in real-life operation conditions. Hence, it is necessary the compressing of the acquired data in order to use as less storage space as possible. Bearing this in mind, this paper proposes the utilization of the discrete wavelet transform to perform the data compression by using the approximation coefficients, since its estimation already implies the compression of the in-test signal. To find out if the data have a closely resemblance with its uncompressed version, the box counting fractal, a tool from the non-linear theory is used to measure if the compressed signal has similar patterns, and thus the same frequency content, that the original version. The most common wavelet mother functions are studied. A real-life signal acquired from a 4-story 2 × 2 bay 3D frame structure is analyzed, where the frequencies contained in the signal are estimated. The obtained results show that the proposal can be considered as an effective tool for compressing vibration signals.","PeriodicalId":260469,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123760400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main purpose of this work, is to manipulate and grip objects to transport them from one location to another using Robot Operating System (ROS). In order to do this task, a motion planner, who deal with constraints, i.e. collisions among the arm joints and objects, is used. Also a 3D viewer, called RViz, is used to visualize (online and offline) the motion of the arm. To easily interface the 3 degree of freedom (DOF) arm, it was designed using FreeCAD, as the output files used to print the arm, are simultaneously exported to create the Unified Robot Description Format (URDF) files required for the planner and viewer. A position-force controller for the gripper, previously presented, has been used to pick up and hold the object during the manipulation. Some experiments where carried out to asses the result of the interface, the execution of the motion planning avoiding collision and the grasp to the object. These results are shown and discussed.","PeriodicalId":260469,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121541284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposal is based on a black-box approach under the assumption that man-made systems, designed to satisfy performance specification, are susceptible of being modeled by transposing linear models. The model is a switched Multi Neural Network ARX model where the structure and coefficients of every model are identified for the main operation modes of the plant. We enhance the identification process introducing an exhaustive method of evolving neural-networks designed to avoid over-fitting and bad-generalization of the model, and we amalgamate the signals of the parallel models in a unique output by using the rate of change to maximize the expectation of selecting the right output. The Multi-NNARX model is intended to be used in a Fault Detection and Diagnosis System based on models for complex engineering systems, presented as a companion paper, thus, we illustrate its application identifying the main operation modes of the Steam Generator Subsystem of a Fossil Fuel Electric Power Plant using data from a high performance simulator.","PeriodicalId":260469,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125555348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SC objective is to exploit advanced communication technologies to support the delivery of high quality services. A key element in a SC is the Smart Grid System (SGS), which is meant to be more efficient, reliable, and secure in managing electric power resources. SGS rely in the collection and analysis of data coming from devices such as sensors across the grid, which allow automated systems to perform advanced actions to accomplish its goals of efficiency and reliability. However, with the use of SGS, we are experiencing grand security challenges to protect such advanced and complex systems against errors and cyberattacks. In this work, we present an anomaly behavior analysis (ABA) system to detect and categorize several fault scenarios that may occur in SGSs. We tested our approach to detect normal operations, physical failures, and cyber-attacks. We applied our ABA methodology to a smart phasor measurement unit (PMU) to analyze, identify, and categorize the different SGS behaviors. The results show that our methodology can be used to accurately detect threats in both SGS and PMU with high detection rates and low false alarms.","PeriodicalId":260469,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"17 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132983521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high variations in the DC-voltage power port tend to propagate disturbances to the AC electrical grids. For this purpose, the application of the active damping control technique applied to the DC regulation loop is proposed in this paper. This is featured by a higher capacity of regulation of the DC-voltage power port in the face of external perturbations or changes in the bidirectional power flow. The mathematical model and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the PI tuning parameters applied to Back-to-Back converters.","PeriodicalId":260469,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132491630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Core elements of this research work were finding frequent patterns on academic records for all students of UMSNH from 2005 to 2016, and searching for relevant frequent pattern subsets by using the distributed computing platform Spark. The FP-Growth algorithm used for finding frequent patterns is presented, as well as serial, concurrent, and parallel implementations of the mining process based on it. Experimental results are discussed on two different directions: (a) the superior performance achieved by parallel implementation when compared to serial and concurrent versions of the application, and (b) the advantages that mining at the frequent patterns level provides for information retrieval on this specific problem, when compared to mining at association rules or correlation statistics levels.","PeriodicalId":260469,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116819679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Likewise, the anxiety in children can trigger different kind of educational issues such as attention difficulties, frustration, and in general, the school failure. This disorder can appear too in children with different kind of disabilities as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, etc. For these reasons, in this paper we present a ludic-interactive system that provides support to detect behaviors/traits related with anxiety or lack of concentration in children with disabilities. Our proposal provides different kinds of ludic/educational activities as well as a data mining analysis module to support decisions making for psychologists and professionals of special education. Calcium is a highly versatile intracellular signal present throughout the cell's life cycle as birth, life, and death, regulating many cellular functions. In this work, we study a mathematical model previously reported called Standard Kinetics (SK), which tries to explain the apparent paradox in ryanodine receptors (RyR) driven calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), where the relation between free and total calcium concentration in the SR is calculated according to the basic chemical reaction for Ca2+ buffering proposed by Nobel Prize Erwin Neher. We prove the generalization of the SK model by identifying the model parameters with Differential Evolution (DE) solving a bi-objective function to fit simultaneously and independently the recording of the two states variables representing the intracellular calcium concentration [Ca2+]i and the Ca2+ level in the SR in smooth muscle cells (SMC).","PeriodicalId":260469,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128250973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
