This paper presents an empirical study that evaluates the efficiency of using twitter posts, related to computer security, as notifications of security alerts. The justification to this study is the fact that posts from microblogs have a very fast spread over the Internet. By using similarity analysis and clustering between twitter posts and alerts from specialized sites, it was verified that microblogs spread computer security alerts in a reliable way, reach a high level of dissemination and inform about security threats before some specialized sites.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114699671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants in these discussions need to take a position in the discussion, to strengthen a specific opinion and to influence other participants in order to support their own view for a decision. Decision makers, on their turn, need to identify what is popular, consensual or controversial. To achieve these objectives, it is desired to quickly identify a set of relevant information that helps to follow political discussions. In this research, methods were developed to extract information considered relevant for this objective: who are the most influent participants, which are the allies and objector groups, and which messages or issues are most popular, consensual and controversial. Visualizations were also developed to help the user to identify this information.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130063910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, it presents and discusses an early implementation of this methodology in the context of a large, global IT service delivery organization. It analyzes the pattern of work interactions that emerge from the mining of common use of internal social media systems, log data of service delivery management systems, and organizational structures. Such analyses enabled us to unearth potential deficiencies in the ways in which the organization make use of collaborative systems, share and spread knowledge among its workers.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130959685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to become a good developer the student needs to refine his learning outcomes to foresee beyond syntax and semantics of a programming language. However, we found that many students face difficulties in that learning process. Thus, it is important to adopt strategies that best fits this situation in order to provide the necessary conditions to achieve success. For that purpose a tool provided with resources for the teachers to plan group problem solving exercises would help students keeping themselves engaged on the programming activities. In this regard we are developing scenarios using virtual worlds. Such environments have been used on many educational contexts, and we believe that if we include Polya's problem solving method as a means for start solving the collaborative tasks described within the scenarios students will propose strategies for solving the tasks, formalize them later on as algorithms. Those activities will promote integration between teacher and students at the same time as students practice their algorithm building skills.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114533586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Collective intelligence leverages this knowledge shared to solve problems. Using collective intelligence along with IT (Information Technology) techniques in transportation systems can make them more secure, efficient and reliable without changing existing physical structures. The products generated by this combination are known as ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems). This paper presents an application that uses the concept of ITS and collective intelligence to enable users to visualize possible problems on bus lines due to traffic conditions. The application is part of the project UbiBus, which focuses on bringing solutions together to improve services provided to public transportation users in Brazil.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125233904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also presents its application at Konnen, a knowledge management platform on social networks based. The features explored in T-SWEETS come from research done on related works from the literature and from an experiment development with a group of 34 people. T-SWEETS have been main purpose to act as an incentive to collaboration in social networks and, therefore, naturally increase the frequency of knowledge dissemination among the users. Thus, it provides background to others automated systems (e.g. recommender systems) and, therefore, the knowledge produced by these users can be explored more efficiently.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127774941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For that purpose, it is often necessary to identify and reason about shared context situations that are based on distributed sources of local contexts. So far, most of the work that investigates mechanisms to support spontaneous discovery and interaction among mobile users has not thoroughly explored means of automatic detection of common Global Context States (GCS). In this paper, we discuss a distributed reasoning approach and algorithm that determines a distributed Global Context State among potentially interacting agents. We also evaluate the complexity of the algorithm - through simulation - and identify how the convergence of the algorithm is influenced by users' mobility patterns, the requested minimum number of contributing agents required to conclude a reasoning process and the volatility of each agent's local context.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133853908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in a virtual environment, the perception is impaired due to systems limitations. Social networks are systems which many interactions among users take place and it becomes necessary to provide awareness support. There is no standard to give its support and each social network provides it in your own way. This paper presents a domain analysis using the FODA method, based on the 3C collaboration model (communication, coordination and cooperation) and the types of awareness (social, workspace and activities) to classify the features found.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"176 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123204802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the proper management of this knowledge has become a real need in the software development industry. One of the approaches to encourage knowledge transfer is its adequate formalization. This method can facilitate knowledge learning and usage. However, knowledge formalization is not trivial and there are several related strategies. This paper presents a qualitative study, in which we compared two knowledge codification support strategies: ABC-Pattern and Mind Map. The results indicate that the participants had a preference in using the ABC-Pattern approach due to its usage and utility. We identified some of the reasons for this preference: a) more codification detail, b) a more detailed description of the knowledgeâs scenario which is more clarifying, c) the possibility of acquiring more information with less effort, and d) the possibility of describing both the problem and the solution.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131491370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because this kind of environment provides a natural and informal way to people engage on collaborative activities, this kind of initiative can be a good alternative approach to achieve better results in knowledge management initiatives. In this context, it was conducted an action research to investigate how a Web based social network could be used as the main tool in a knowledge management initiative being held in an innovation institute. During this action research, the Web based social network was proposed and developed to meet the knowledge management needs of the organization. In the five years span in which the action research was carried out, a set of metrics were proposed, monitored and analyzed, originating some improvement proposals for both, the initiative and the social network environment. Through the deployment of these proposals, it was possible to monitor the impacts of the proposals on the organization. At the end, this action research showed some reflections and conclusions on the whole initiative.","PeriodicalId":257965,"journal":{"name":"2012 Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems","volume":"489 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116621549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
