A matrix-based fast calculation algorithm is proposed to calculate the network capacity in a network scenario in which there is no channel sharing among multiple sessions and there is an end-to-end delay constraint between each source and destination pair The algorithm calculates the network capacity in terms of the maximum number of k-hop paths based on the k-hop adjacency matrix of the network. Through numerical and simulation results, we show that our proposed algorithm can estimate network capacity much faster than the brute-force search algorithm with the same accuracy. The network is modeled as a queue with a single server processing the packets. This provides a framework to consider the effect of packet drops, packet delays and bursty losses on state estimation. We use a modified Kalman Filter with buffer to cope with delayed packets. We analyze the stability of the estimates with varying buffer length and queue size. We use high order Markov chains for our analysis. Zepernick","doi":"10.1109/ICW.2005.79","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICW.2005.79","url":null,"abstract":"Region of interest (ROI) coding is a feature supported by the Joint Photographic Experts Group 2000 (JPEG 2000) image compression standard and allows particular regions of interest within an image to be compressed at a higher quality than the rest of the image. In this paper, unequal error protection (UEP) is proposed for ROI coded JPEG 2000 images as a technique for providing increased resilience against the effects of transmission errors over a wireless communications channel. The hierarchical nature of an ROI coded JPEG 2000 code-stream lends itself to the use of UEP whereby the important bits of the code-stream are protected with a strong code while the less important bits are protected with a weaker code. Simulation results obtained using symbol-by-symbol maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) decoding demonstrate that the use of UEP offers significant gains in terms of the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and the percentage of readable files. Using strong ordering such as CAUSAL or TOTAL order to capture and deliver streams' interactions may be too expensive (in terms of delay) due to the variability of the network conditions. This paper builds upon previous work on expressing streams causality and propose a multimodal communication toolkit in order to integrate different delivery modes (e.g. FIFO, CAUSAL, TOTAL) into a single channel (with respect to each of these protocols). Moreover the proposed multimodal channel can handle the mix of any partial or total order protocols. An ad hoc network can be considered as an autonomous distributed system that consists of a set of identical mobile nodes that move independently and freely. Each node uses wireless links to communicate with other nodes that reside within its transmission range. In this paper, we propose a new approach for support QoS by the use of priority in the MAC buffer over MANETs. We evaluate the performance of our algorithm and compare its performance with the original IEEE 802.11b protocol. This paper presents a new middleware for wireless sensor networks based on the Coordination paradigm. The middleware is thought to support both an operational setting based on a (hierarchical) architecture of sensor regions and a coordination model rested on tuple channels. Tuple channels are FIFO structures that allow one-to-many and many-to-one communication between region sensors and the region leader in a single-hop way. We have proposed a protocol MSAP (Multimedia Service Announcement Protocol) that enables consumers to search and download multimedia content more effectively and faster. This paper builds on the concept of MSAP for content search and distribution. This paper presents SMDP (Simple Multimedia service Description Protocol) that is used for multimedia description for both the service and content levels. We have presented an experimental study of audio streaming when IP tunneling network using generic route encapsulation (GRE) along with Internet protocol security (IPSec) is implemented. The impact on performance, with particular attention to quality of service (QoS) has been evaluated through a series of experiments. In this paper we examine routing hole characteristics. In simulations of large networks of varying size and placement strategy we investigate (1) the size of routing holes, (2) the number of hops needed to escape from a routing hole, and (3) the likelihood of encountering a routing hole as a function of distance. Our results show the distribution of hops required to map a hole is skewed toward smaller values (/spl les/ 10 hops), and that the majority of holes can be circumvented in 4 hops or less. The analogy comes from the fact that in high density sensor networks the output of sensors is correlated both spatially and temporally. This means that the output of a sensor is correlated with the outputs of its neighbours. This characteristic is very similar to the pixels' output (intensity) in video signals. The video signal consists of multiple correlated frames (correlation in time), and each frame consists of large number of pixels, and usually there is high correlation between pixels (spatial correlation). By defining this relation one can use the well-known image processing techniques for sensor data compression, fusion, and analysis.
