Provided dialogue means text of conversation taken from the book, and the lecturer brings it in the virtual class for the students to discuss, learn, and practice. Meanwhile, the students’ own dialogue refers to the assignment the lecturer gives to students in which students create dialogue within 5-6 days and the dialogue must fulfil several requirements. The instrument for collecting data is questionnaire. There are 21 items of questions in questionnaire given to students at the end of semester. The study proves that the usage of provided dialogue and plus the students’ own dialogue makes the zoom class more interesting. Other findings are the students are able to use specific expressions in communication using dialogue, in good intonation and pronunciation, in good spelling and grammar, and appropriate gestures and full confidence. Furthermore, the questionnaire also shows good point on the students’ improvements after the students have learned communication skill using both provided dialogue and the students’ own dialogue.","PeriodicalId":255016,"journal":{"name":"JEE (Journal of English Education)","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115889890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It focuses on students’ participation, accessibility, material & assignment delivery, and the preferences of online learning platforms. The researcher conducted a qualitative study by using the survey design method. It used a questionnaire as the instrument; it was then distributed and collected through Google form. There were open-ended questions that required a free text response which was used to gain the students’ perception regarding online learning implementation, while close-ended questions were used to obtain the percentage of the analyzed topic. The received responses were calculated, analyzed, and described narratively. The respondents were 87 students of three departments of STIKES Cendekia Utama Kudus in the odd semester. The result presents that students showed a positive attitude during English online learning. Since they had an unstable connection, they showed their positive effort. Their response to the material & assignment delivered by their lecturer was positive. However, the students had many obstacles during the process; accessibility still becomes their main problem. Unstable Signal strength, full smartphone storage, and given assignments need to be considering too. They need extra time to submit their assignments because of the connection. Since their connection is limited and unstable, WhatsApp, Google Meet and YouTube studio became their most favorite platform. It was quota-friendly, had a stable connection, and was flexible. They can re-play/re-read their material wherever and whenever they need it.","PeriodicalId":255016,"journal":{"name":"JEE (Journal of English Education)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125008893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it has not received the needed scholarly attention, not only in classroom pedagogy and curriculum planning but also in studies and researches in Applied Linguistics and Teaching English as Second Language. This study therefore attempts an investigation into the teaching and learning of listening skills in the language classroom in Ghana. It focuses on three issues in English as Second Language (ESL) listening comprehension; i) the strategies/methods for teaching listening skills, ii) the challenges for learning listening skills and iii) the ways to overcome the challenges. This descriptive qualitative study, having used two major instruments for data collection; observation and open-ended questionnaire, engaged 200 students and 7 teachers as the sample from selected Senior High Schools in the Agona West Municipality. The analysis of data revealed that indeed clarity of speaker, speed of delivery, learning environments, etc posed challenges to the teaching and learning of listening skills. It was also revealed that combining listening with other skills, predictive and summative strategies were the strategies teachers employed in teaching listening. Then, finally, the solutions to listening comprehension challenges, as revealed in the data, were indicated as including planning, overt student participation, clarity of speaker, assessment strategies, etc.","PeriodicalId":255016,"journal":{"name":"JEE (Journal of English Education)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123112042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
