In DF, information coming from different sources is simply combined regardless of their respective link qualities, and thus DF is not optimized for any propagation conditions. In this paper, we propose a novel transmit cooperation scheme that exploits asymmetric link qualities by using layered higher order modulation. A partial forwarding approach is followed by taking advantage of the layered structure: one part of the information is forwarded by a relay for increasing the robustness of the direct link and the rest of the information flows through the boosted direct link. Moreover, our scheme is based on a distributed serially concatenated encoding structure that can accommodate iterative decoding to further improve its performance. The complexity of our scheme is seemingly identical to DF scheme. Performance evaluation shows that our scheme provides a better spectral efficiency in asymmetric propagation conditions than DF scheme for both non-iterative and iterative decoding.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125563182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Similar to the layered OFDMA concept, it was agreed at the 3GPP RAN WG1 meeting that the entire transmission bandwidth in LTE-advanced should comprise multiple frequency blocks called component carriers to achieve a wider system bandwidth than that for the current LTE (Rel-8 LTE). We investigate the optimum radio parameters in the frequency domain including the need for an inter-component carrier guard band (GB). In the simulation evaluations, we set the parameters for the receiver filter assuming the worst case that satisfies the minimum requirement specified in Rel-8 LTE. Simulation results show that the loss in the average received signal energy per symbol-to-noise power spectrum density ratio (Es/No) satisfying the required block error rate compared to the case without an inter-component carrier GB is negligible irrespective of the modulation scheme and coding rate. As a result, we conclude that the inter-component carrier GB is unnecessary and can be minimized to 19 subcarriers in the downlink while retaining the same number of subcarriers within a component carrier as that for Rel-8 LTE.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115207534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have developed a Wireless Medium Virtualization Framework (WMVF) to analyze the performance of a variable number of VOs (with one or more types of traffic) accessing to the same wireless medium through the same wireless node in a coordinated way. Extensive simulations have been carried out to assess the impact of wireless medium virtualization based on relevant parameters such as the type of traffic, the number of VOs and the specific wireless technology. Improving the performance of cell edge users who suffers strong inter-cell CCI is still a crucial issue. In this paper, coordinated beamforming (CBF) algorithm for multicell multiuser MIMO system is proposed to cope with the presence of intel-cell CCI. In multicell environment with MIMO channel, limited base station (BS) cooperation is considered to design optimal transmit and receive beamformers which make interference-free at the receiver. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can improve the capacity of cell edge user effectively as well as the overall system capacity for multiuser multicell MIMO system.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115530242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In ADM, the receiver demodulates only a subset of the bits from a Raptor coded Gray mapped M-QAM received symbol, where the number of demodulated bits depends on the channel condition. The ADM scheme, which was originally proposed for point to point communication, determines the most reliable bits using approximate decision regions obtained through a binary composite hypothesis test in the AWGN environment. In contrast, we prove a simple theorem that identifies the most reliable bits in a Gray mapped M-QAM received symbol in a straight forward and exact manner, and use it in every receiver of our cooperative communication system to adaptively extract the appropriate bits. Performance results demonstrate that our ADM based Raptor coded cooperative communication system is robust enough to realize diversity order of two, even under adverse channel conditions in various links.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"263 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122534994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately in wireless scenarios, it is well known that contention problems are met. The latter can be modeled as a game. Accordingly, in this paper we present a game-theoretic model of priori- tized data transmission in CSMA/CA networks where nodes are considered as potential cheaters which should be punished through a jamming mechanism when misbehaving and trying to monopolize wireless resources. The receiver of DOSM does not require estimation of channel fading coefficients, channel power, signal power, or noise power to decode the data symbols and the decision is based on the two consecutively received codewords. In, the transmission matrix of DOSM is based on complex square orthogonal designs which cannot achieve full data rate. Hence, we presented a constellation rotation strategy to enhance the rate of DOSM. In this paper, we construct the transmission matrix of DOSM from complex rectangular orthogonal designs and find that full-rate DOSM can be achieved with increased encoding block length. An upper bound of the pair-wise error probability (PEP) for DOSM in Rayleigh fading channels is derived. Simulation results show that the proposed DOSM outperforms the differential space-time block code (DSTBC) with full diversity and the existing differential SM schemes in terms of error-rate performance over quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"35 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114129844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

User's data symbols are mapped over the physical subcarriers with a permutation formula. The PHY layer is secured with a random and dynamic subcarrier permutation which is based on a single pre-shared information and depends on dynamic spectrum access (DSA). The dynamic subcarrier permutation is varying over time, geographical location and environment status, resulting in a very robust protection that ensures confidentiality. The method is shown to be effective also for existing non-cognitive systems. The proposed mechanism is effective against eavesdropping even if the eavesdropper adopts a long-time patterns analysis, thus protecting cryptography techniques of higher layers. The correlation properties of the permutations are analyzed for several DSA patterns. Simulations are performed according to the parameters of the IEEE 802.16e system model. The securing mechanism proposed provides intrinsic PHY layer security and it can be easily implemented in the current IEEE 802.16 standard applying almost negligible modifications.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114387939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
