Neighbor discovery includes router discovery, and redirect. Router discovery is used by an IPv6 host to discover the presence of routers and network parameters. It enables the host to configure list of default gateway, list of address prefixes, Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) in the link and hop limit setting for sending IPv6 packets. Failure to complete the initialization process will cause the network to have no IPv6 addresses, disabling it from sending any IPv6 packets and communication with others. As the original router discovery standard does not specify a security mechanism for it, they are vulnerable for any exploitation. This paper investigates the current router discovery mitigation methods such as ADD, SAVI, TRDP and RA Guard. The investigation would further increase the understanding on their weakness so that it could be used to formalize a new security method for router discovery. We propose a new security mechanism based on distributed trust management. Theoretical analysis of this mechanism shows a decrease in bandwidth consumption compared to ADD on Secure Neighbor Discovery mechanism up to 3.15 times lesser.","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126836394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In an attempt to mitigate this problem, the authority has specified speed limits on the roads in order to regulate the speed of vehicles. To successfully enforce the speed limit law, a mechanism for monitoring a vehicle speed is required. There are numerous measures in use for detecting and monitoring the speed limit violators. Some of these methods include the use of speed cameras, radar, loop detector, police officers, and many more. These traditional methods are not effective due to their setbacks, which ranges from the cost of acquiring equipment, increase labour and manpower, and inadequacy of monitoring. As such, a simple, cost effective and easily deployed speed detection technique that can overcome the shortcomings of the traditional methods is imperative. In this paper, we proposed an automatic speed violation detection framework, which integrates the RFID and VANETs technologies. The proposed system is cost effective and user centred. The paper concludes by presenting the system implementation via a Graphical User Interface (GUI).","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114819957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A meander line antenna with a conductor line is investigated during the design using the Computer Simulation Tool (CST) software. The antenna is fabricated on a double-sided FR-4 printed circuit board using an etching technique. The comparison between simulation and measurement results for the return loss and radiation patterns are observed and are in good agreement. A bandwidth of 97 MHz and return loss of -19.29 dB is obtained at the first frequency band, i,e. 915 MHz, while a bandwidth of 46.2 MHz with a return loss of -16.27 dB are obtained at the second frequency band, i.e. 1800 MHz. This study is an early investigation in designing the RF energy harvesting to support green technology and sustainable development particularly for Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) as well as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) applications.","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124733716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern ISO 18000-6C RFID readers perform fully coherent demodulation, detect the signal phase and deliver it to the user. However the presented phase is π-periodical and not 2π. This is caused by the symmetry of the received signal and the phase-recovery methodology used. In this paper we introduce a phase-recovery method retrieving a 2π-periodical phase. A larger ambiguity range for the phase measurement is beneficial for all phase-based localization methods: it allows, for example, increased array-element spacing in angle-of-arrival detection methods; and improves the resolution for imaging methods.","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125890861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon suggests complexity as well as lack of control and poor management of production lines. An unmanageable system in the production line leads to problems in production management. An example of this problem relates to the quantity of output in each production line. Output level is an important consideration in production management for monitoring, controlling, and updating information on the condition and the location of the production floor. This study introduces several engineering management system for real-time monitoring, controlling, and updating information by integrating radio frequency identification (RFID) systems with wireless network. In this study, a combination of passive and active RFIDs with an embedded controller board was designed according to specific functions and operation modules under Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) platform. Ease in implementing the system provides companies an ideal solution for fast and convenient monitoring of manufacturing and distribution activities. These integrated modules are used in automated, wireless-readable, sensory-based identification techniques and Web-based monitoring, thereby enhancing reliability and providing more functionalities.","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131014379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimization work is extensively performed on the thickness, the length, as well as the width of each section in order to obtain optimal-performance multi-section printed dipole antennas at the lowest possible cost. The simulation results illustrate that a four-section dipole antenna structure with each succeeding section having the width approximately equal to half the width of its prior section achieves superior antenna efficiency performance. The conductive ink consumption of this antenna design is reduced around 51% when compared with the conventional flat layer design in order to achieve the same level of antenna efficiency performance as the ideal copper-trace dipole antenna.","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133381969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using quasi-floating gate technique, a gate-biasing scheme is proposed to provide a relatively flat power conversion efficiency (PCE) curve for a wide input voltage (power) range. The proposed technique also enables an efficient operation for input voltage levels well below the standard threshold voltage of the MOS switching transistors. Appropriate bias voltages for different stages of the rectifier are generated through a chain of low-power bandgap reference generators which impose minimal power and area overhead. The proposed rectifier architecture is designed and laid out in a standard 0.13-μm CMOS technology. For a 2.4 GHz RF input frequency and 30 kΩ output load, post-layout simulation results of the circuit show that a maximum PCE of 66.7% is achieved for an input signal with an amplitude (power) of 0.45 V (-8 dBm). While a high PCE of 60% is achieved for input voltage (power) levels as low as 0.25 V (-15 dBm), PCE maintains above 60% for a wide input voltage (power) range from 0.25 V to 0.7 V (-15 dBm to -3 dBm).","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129735910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The calculation of the receive signal power at arbitrary positions of a predefined environment should be fast and accurate to find dead zones where tags cannot be read although they are well within the reader's communication range. Changes in the system configuration or the simulated environment must be easy to implement. In this paper we use the simple and fast calculable UHF RFID channel model from [1] and improve it in different aspects to better fit the real indoor multipath signal propagation. A comparison between measurements and simulations shows that our model delivers 1.8 dB better performance in average than the original model, while adding only little complexity and computing time. Using our simulation environment, it is easy and fast to find dead zones for arbitrary system setups.","PeriodicalId":253369,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on RFID-Technologies and Applications (RFID-TA)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126540963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
