An experimental model is being constructed to test the approach. Using a UWB pulse of 4 GHz central frequency and 0.4 ns pulse width, differential UWB antennas and a pseudo-breast model, the proposed MIMO approach was adopted and yielded excellent results. The results are compared to a monostatic and a bistatic delay-and-sum beamformer and it was proven that the MIMO approach was far more superior. This suggests that UWB pulse technology is indeed feasible for real tumour detection and MIMO beamforming has the potential to produce accurate tumour images with acceptable resolution.","PeriodicalId":249652,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114779956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, impact of narrowband interference (NBI) becomes a key issue in the development of UWB systems. In this paper, under the IEEE802.15.4a industrial line-of-sight (LOS) channel model, the effects of NBI on the performance of the recently proposed differential code-shifted reference (DCSR) UWB systems is assessed analytically and through computer simulations. The results shows that DCSR is inherently robustness to NBI and the values of code length Nf, as well as transmission code number M play an important role in mitigating NBI. Therefore, shifting and detection codes need to be carefully designed and selected.","PeriodicalId":249652,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123415462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By inserting a C-shaped slot to the radiating patch, and embedding a pair of inverted L-shaped slots into the ground plane, the 3.5/5.5 GHz dual band-notched characteristics are achieved, respectively. The proposed antenna was successfully simulated, fabricated and measured. The simulated results agree reasonably with the measured ones, showing that the proposed antenna provides an operating band ranging from 2.3 to 11.5 GHz with VSWR less than 2.0, except the 3.5/5.5 GHz notched-bands. In addition, the proposed antenna exhibits a nearly omnidirectional radiation pattern in the H-plane, dipole-like radiation pattern in the E-plane, and stable gain across the operating band.","PeriodicalId":249652,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123219360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A kind of trapezoid dipole antenna that is similar to the parallel dual-feed is analyzed in the essay. Adopting the software of CST Microwave to simulate how the structure parameter of antenna influences impedance character, a type of dipole antenna working within 1.85∼3.75GHz is designed. The simulation results and experiments indicate that the antenna possesses wide impedance bandwidth. Meanwhile, the pattern is approximately omni-directional within the frequency band. So the antenna can be used in many fields, such as PCS, WLAN, WiMAX, and so on.","PeriodicalId":249652,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123250150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rotor-telemetry is a special type of a radio-telemetry, where measuring data of physical parameters like pressure or temperature are captured by sensors predominantly on rotating objects such as shafts or gear parts, transmitted over special on the rotor mounted along-moved antennas and received by static antennas. The antenna on the rotor is rotating with high velocity. A new problem appears with this scenario: since such systems become faster and faster, the impact of Doppler rises significantly. The consideration of the effect of Doppler in UWB-signals is different than in narrowband signals. In narrowband systems, the Doppler shift is almost equal for all frequencies, so that the compensation is simple by translating the spectrum proportional to the carrier frequency. This assumption is no more fulfilled in UWB-systems, since the low frequencies of the band suffer less from Doppler shift than the upper ones.","PeriodicalId":249652,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128260568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modulating bits are varied across the sub-channels depending on the signal to noise ratio (SNR). Sub-channels experiencing severe fading employ lower or no bit-loading while subchannels with little or no fading utilise higher bit-loading to maintain a constant system data rate. Simulation results show that using the adaptive modulation to maintain a constant data rate features a better performance than using only QPSK modulation in a frequency selective fading channel.","PeriodicalId":249652,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE International Conference on Ultra-Wideband","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127994669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
