Kahoot is an online game-based creative learning media used to teach in schools and other educational institutions. This learning media is attractive because it has many exciting features such as games, quizzes, discussions, and surveys. This study's objective was to investigate the use of Kahoot as a free online game-based learning media that provides classroom dynamics, students’ interaction, and the learning process. This study's methodology was based on qualitative descriptive to obtain an overview of Kahoot as learning media in the classroom. This study's object includes 25 teachers of Wonotingal Elementary School Semarang, and the main conclusion is that Kahoot can have the alternative interactive learning media. However, they are also studied where Kahoot has no or little effect. The main challenges mentioned by teachers include technical problems and old age. We conducted observations, field notes, and interviews with the teachers to study the teacher's obstacles in implementing Kahoot as learning media in the classroom. Kahoot is used for particular learning and can also be combined with any learning method that suited the teacher's needs and student characteristics.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114235621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to identify the challenges in medical translation and the translation procedures applied in translating medical terms in the book Into The Magic Shop . Furthermore, this study also wants to reveal whether the translation of the medical terms is source-language oriented or target-language oriented. This is a descriptive qualitative research based on translation product. The data in this study are medical terms in the book Into The Magic Shop and its two translation versions. The data was collected through content analysis. Several features of medical terms related to translation problems were found in this study. There are Latin and Greek root words, eponyms, acronyms, word compounding, affixation, and the doublet phenomenon. The finding also shows that borrowing and literal translation are the most dominant translation procedures for translating the medical terms. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the medical translation tends to be source-language oriented.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127123495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Teaching English Through Literature In Post-Pandemic Era: A Case At An Indonesian Islamic Higher Institution","authors":"Dedi Irwansyah","doi":"10.4108/eai.14-8-2021.2317620","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4108/eai.14-8-2021.2317620","url":null,"abstract":". There has been little discussion about the impact of the pandemic era on the use of literature in English language teaching. This article offers an overview of the use literature to teach English in an Indonesian Islamic higher institution within the post-pandemic era with the focus on the multimodality of literary texts and sorogan teaching method. This article is underpinned by and is aimed at exploring two arguments. First, the pandemic era has massively encouraged English teachers to utilize technology in their teaching in that the printed version of literary texts should become multimodal. Second, literary texts should be presented as an accessible and engaging language input. Following a qualitative analysis technique, this case study involved 37 students of State Islamic Institute of (IAIN) Metro, Indonesia. The research data were drawn from a questionnaire, the students' comments on the channels, and the students‟ self-generated channels. The findings of the research show that: (1) multimodality in the form of sound, videos, and music should be taken into account when utilizing literary text to teach English in the post-pandemic era, and (2) the literary texts should be appropriately adapted to reduce the language complexity either by using the students‟ national language or by implementing such a teaching method as sorogan which is familiar to Islamic institutional context. Multimodality, familiarity, and simplicity should become the characteristics of the literature used to teach English at Indonesian Islamic universities.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131364446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pandemic of Covid 19 forced the teaching and learning process to run online as face-to-face meetings are currently still prohibited. This study aims to examine the learners’ perception of synchronous learning they have experienced and asynchronous learning by applying three applications namely Camtasia Video Maker, Youtube, and Google Classroom. This research employed a mixed-method by integrating an online survey using Google form and qualitative justification of the learners’ response. The research subjects were 52 students from Intermediate English Grammar Class, English Literature Department, Universitas Ngudi Waluyo. The results show that the majority of students positively respond to the implementation of asynchronous learning by applying those three applications. The most significant and fruitful advantage is the flexibility of access and time.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"670 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116102302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
