This article explains the challenges of English language teaching in the post-pandemic era at IAIN Salatiga. Several challenges become the setback in maintaining the continuity of English language teaching in the post-pandemic era. Technological infrastructure and curriculum development are during the Covid-19 pandemic and in every discussion about national education development. Another challenge is the learning system, which transitioned from traditional (face-to-face) to online learning. Learning administration must also be updated to be totally online, for example, learning materials employing audio, video, YouTube, and Google forms. When Lecturers' roles moved to more of a facilitator, the curriculum became their reference. It is critical to remember that lecturers still require aid, training, and technical direction in order to prepare for change.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126639287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learning verbs and tenses at once is often quite heavy and boring for students in learning English. Most students will know the verbs and tenses at one time at the moment and will forget at another. To learn it would take time as well. To memorize the kinds of verbs would be provoking and uninteresting too. This study is aimed to apply Gamification to learning verbs and tenses to make the learning verb game easier and understandable. This is an action research study that is conducted in one cycle. The subjects of the study were students of IX of SMP 4 Samarinda. There were four instruments of the study. They were observation, students test on tenses, class atmosphere, and questionnaire. The result of the study reveals that students enjoy learning through experiencing the learning activity. Students' achievements on tenses was also significantly increased after the implementation of the Verb Form Gamification from 28,30 in the previous test to be 74,7 in the achievement test. The students also felt impressed while studying through Gamification of Verb Form. Teaching Verb Forms through gamification before teaching tenses is advisable and highly recommended to make students understand the kinds and patterns of verbs in English. Gamication on learning verb game can trigger students in learning, enhances students‟ interest, understanding and enthusiasm. Gamification learning is beneficial to both students and teacher in the easiness and happiness learning.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128385637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The world changes massively, so it is necessary to prepare adequate human resources with competent skills so that they are ready to adapt and compete on a global scale. Empowerment and improvement of human resources through education are keys to following the development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. All graduates should be equipped with some skills needed to face the industrial revolution. One of the skills is creativity. However, the Covid-19 pandemic influenced the implementation of teaching and learning that must be carried on virtually. The condition forced the teachers to find the solution to facilitate the students by selecting the right teaching model. This research was conducted to answer the question: \"How can Project-Based Learning build the students' creativity in Profession English Subjects?\" This research employed a qualitative approach. The data was collected using observation in the online class, interviewing the representative students, and collecting the documents. The researcher used an observation checklist proposed by Torrance to find out their creativity. The results show that the students created a project at the end of the lecture. They were assigned to make a book chapter for teaching English to elementary school students and a video teaching English through songs. The students' creativity appeared when they created the projects. It can be seen from the indicators of their curiosity, flexibility, and originality in creating the works.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128684071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nuraini, Donald Jupply","doi":"10.4108/eai.14-8-2021.2317618","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4108/eai.14-8-2021.2317618","url":null,"abstract":". Clause complex is a relation between clause and further clause to create sequence or flow of information. It is part of logical metafunction. Its relations are divided into conjunctive relations, taxis, and logico-semantic relation. Translating clause complex often poses a problem for translators because it relates to mode of meaning. This study, thus, aims to find 1) the pattern of logical choices, including conjunctive relations, taxis, and logico-semantic relations and 2) the translation shifts in mode of meaning in Hades Does Home Improvement by using a qualitative method. From the findings, firstly, 132 complex clauses are found in the ST and 133 are found in the TT. The ST is realized with 129 external conjunctions and 3 clauses with continuative. The TT is realized with 125 external conjunction, 3 clauses with continuative, and 5 clauses changing from complex to simplex. In both the ST and the TT, the preferred taxis system is parataxis and the most employed logico-semantic type is enhancement. Secondly, three translation shifts are found: 1) from textual to logical metafunction (complex into simplex), 2) from logical to textual metafunction (explicit into implicit and vice versa), and 3) between logical metafunction, including taxis shift and logico-semantic realization shift. The similarities of the clause complex relation in ST and TT are stimulated by the similar system of logical choice in the ST and the TT, and because the translator expects the translation to be similar to the original rather than considering the reader perspectives.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127197230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) has been implemented in Indonesia at all levels of education since March 2020 to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Immediate changes and adjustments are required to transform face to face learning into online learning. In addition, challenges emerge during this process. To investigate the challenges during the implementation of Emergency Remote Teaching for very young learners, a narrative inquiry research was applied. In-depth interview was held to five respondents consisted of 2 teachers and 3 parents to collect the data. The researcher also observed the online teaching and learning process conducted via WhatsApp group. Then, the data were categorized into two sides, teachers’ side and parents’ side, since it is undeniable that online learning for very young learners intensively involved not only the teachers but also the parents. From the teachers’ side, the challenges dealt with materials preparation, online class management, and learning achievement. From parents’ side, the problems comprised the time management and learning environment. This paper recommends that teachers need to continuously develop their professional skills so that they can adapt to the rapid change of education system.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123298942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Affini, Ajeng Setyorini","doi":"10.4108/eai.14-8-2021.2317645","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4108/eai.14-8-2021.2317645","url":null,"abstract":". This study pinpoints Indonesian teachers’ motivation to teach in a contested environment during the crisis of COVID-19. The data combines the closed and open survey to gain rich and complete data from the participants. For safety precautions, data collection was conducted online by inviting 100 school teachers to fill out a survey responded by 96 teachers. The participants teach in primary school (18.75%), secondary school (21.88%), senior high school (46.87%), and other contexts (12.5%) in Semarang and other regencies in Central Java. The top four of the online learning platforms used by teachers are WhatsApp (29.17%), Google Classroom (22.92%), YouTube video (16.67%), and Google Form (6.25%). The narrative data from the open survey indicates that the teachers displayed two kinds of motivation that drive them to keep doing their work. The spiritual motivations are the drive to do the job because of their religious belief, passion, and sense of obligation to their students, and the concern towards the students’ learning during the pandemic. The extrinsic motivation includes following the regulation from the government, school administrator, and the curriculum demand to complete the lesson within a specific period. The learning was conducted online, and the teachers indicated that they were independent in their endeavours to provide the internet for teaching.","PeriodicalId":249595,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2021, 14-15 August 2021, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134414999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
