The progressive structure in quantization step sizes not only allows the exploitation of human visual characteristics but provides the clues of the ground level of brightness. A particle swarm optimization method is adopted to identify the ground level prior to performing watermark extraction. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme renders better robustness in comparison with other SVD-based methods. In optical virtual biopsy, Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) microscopy has been developed and applied to observe collagen fibers in the dermal layer of the human skin. The density of collagen fibers is a feature to describe the condition of collagen fibers which can provide indicator for the early pathological diagnosis and aging characteristic in SHG images. The proposed algorithm is capable of objectively and effectively reflecting that the distributions of collagen fibers are close or loose in virtual biopsy images as revealed by the experimental results. The presented scheme combines two well-known techniques, namely selected mapping (SLM) and clipping, in an adaptive way. Allowing an affordable PAPR, which might be exceeded with very small probability, the proposed method aims at minimizing the instantaneous number of clipped peaks per OFDM frame to limit the resulting transmit signal distortion. Using Compressed Sensing based algorithms which account for the potential variation of the number of clips per frame, this clipping strategy directly translates into an improved receiver-side peak reconstruction compared to choosing a fixed number of clipped peaks. In this paper, a wideband adaptive beamforming algorithm based on subband decomposition and subarray divided is proposed. Firstly, the wideband array is divided into a series of subarrays in order to reduce system complexity, phase shifter is used in every element of a subarray to form subarray receiving signal and then subband decomposition processing is performed in each subarray signal. Secondly, narrowband adaptive beamforming is used in each subband to suppress interference. Finally, we synthesize all the subband signals with synthesis filter banks to restore wideband signal. In addition to common ROI extraction and saliency extraction problems, food baking images are also subject to lighting noise, glass reflection and shadow effects. In this paper, the HSV color map is employed to effectively eliminate oven lighting effects, then a one-bit transform (1BT) with global adaptive thresholding method is performed to obtain preliminary ROI segmentation results. Further, a local contour refinement algorithm is designed to reduce glass reflection and shadow effects for extracting the ROI contour more precisely. Our work reveals that in the modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) domain, traditional power extrapolation method is not proper for audio signals that have plenty of tonal components. By applying the sinusoid model analysis technique, a new receiver-based combined method is proposed to deal with the audio frame loss with no additional algorithm delay. A shaped-noise extrapolation is used to obtain the MDCT coefficients in noise-like spectral bins, while a sinusoid-model based extrapolation is performed to generate the MDCT coefficients in tone-dominant bins. The video frames are initially scored and annotated by multiple video experts. Thereafter, the scores for the video segments that have been assigned the higher priorities by end users will be upgraded. Considering the required summary length, the highest scored video frames will be inserted into a personalized final summary. This study proposed a new edge extraction algorithm by using dynamic thresholding. More precisely, for each row of an edge-enhanced image, by scanning from middle towards both left and right, two sets of dynamic thresholds were built by collecting three dominant pixel values along each direction, and a unique edge position was marked simultaneously at each side by using the corresponding threshold set. The proposed method uses the eigenvalue-decomposition method on the sample covariance matrix of the sensor array received data and obtains the signal eigenvectors. We represent the generalized steering vectors of coherently distributed source containing central direction-of-arrival (DOA) and angular spread on over complete dictionaries subject to sparse constraint in subspace fitting method. Then subspace fitting problem is transformed into a sparse reconstruction problem. Finally, we use L1 norm method to solve the sparse reconstruction problem, which is optimized by the second order cone programming (SOCP) framework. For similarity measures, in turn, appropriate time series representation techniques are needed. We present and discuss two techniques for time series representation. Eigenspace representations are based on a principal component analysis of time series. Shape space representations are based on polynomial least-squares approximations. Both aim at capturing the essential characteristics of time series while abstracting from less significant information, e.g., noise. The similarity of time series can then be measured using a standard Euclidean distance in the eigenspace or the shape space, respectively.
